Title: US chopper may have violated Finnish airspace
Post by: BlauK on June 29, 2009, 02:41:50 PM
The event from last Saturday is under investigation and more info is expected tomorrow. Ruskies do it once in a while, but if this is true, it is said to be the first time by USA :)

"Amerikkaanner CIA operatives threatened to overthrow glorious Finnish peoples government by flying their black U1-H1 Iroquois within 500 kms of the Finnish border according to 2 teenage eye witnesses Mika Hakkinaaanan and Mikko Hirvonnnnen. Both youths claimed to have defeated the Amerikkan incursion by their knowledge of WRC racing and singing songs of the 1939 winter war. An Amerikkan government spokesman responded to reporters questions over the incident with "What the hell is a Finland?"

:lol tronski, nice !

Quote
A U.S. helicopter was invovled in an incident breaching Finnish airspace on Saturday evening. Airspace infringement in the Gulf of Finland is suspected to have been to observe the south side.

U.S. craft had to leave Estonia. The flight direction was west. It was a public vessel, but the Defense Ministry's senior osastoesiupseeri Petteri Tervonen did not want to specify whether the case was a military unit.

The West Finland Coast Guard suspected a violation of Finland's territorial waters within a few kilometers and for a number of minutes.

The Border Guard is investigating the matter. There has been promises to release more information tomorrow at noon. If the suspicion proves necessary, it is reportedly the first time that the Finnish air space has been violated by a U.S. aircraft.

thats the best i could make of it, my Finnish is non existent.

No intercept took place due to a lack of sober pilots.

It is now being reported that a national minute of "Righteous Indignation" has been called for and will be observed in secret by all Finns.     :D

Is this a problem??? I thought Finland was a good guy country that produced some hot chicks for export to universities in the Southeastern USA who played tennis in college??? At least that was the case when I went to UAB. Damn shame I never got past the dating stage with them.

:)

It was possibly a SH-60 from Forrest Sherman destroyer which had been visiting in Estonia.

Brewsters could not be scrambled because they are still in beta test. Had they been out already, it would not have required sober pilots to scramble them... it never does ;)

Nice Mechanic :aok but some corrections:

A helicopter from a U.S. vessel was possibly involved in an incident breaching Finnish airspace on Saturday evening. Airspace infringement in the Gulf of Finland is suspected to have happened south of Hanko city.

U.S. vessel was leaving Estonia. Helicopter's flight direction was west. It was a government/state vessel, but the Defense Ministry's senior osastoesiupseeri Petteri Tervonen did not want to specify whether the case was a military unit.

The West Finland Coast Guard suspected a violation of Finland's territorial waters within a few kilometers and for a number of minutes.

The Border Guard is investigating the matter. There has been promises to release more information tomorrow at noon. If the suspicion proves to be justified, it is reportedly the first time that the Finnish air space has been violated by a U.S. aircraft.

Just tell Finland they can come over and violate our airspace for a couple of minutes, and we'll call it even.  :)

Spelling of Cessna, and a bit of C.A.P.'s history, which now flies Cessnas, and everyone loves ultralight airtrikes. ;)

we do 95% of all inland search and rescue in the USA. we are the best at what we do, and we have the best safety record for single engine airfleets.

It'll never fly, you know the Finn's would've used the fuel as a cocktail mixer.

Also have this on the record... geeze CAP, can't forget the most important thing. :D
CAP is the Civil Air Patrol and worked just off the East Coast in WW2. They carried smoke bombs to mark the sightings and they sank one or two subs while directing military fire on a score more and found 173 enemy U-boats in all until the coastal sub threat was withdrawn in August, 1943.

"CAP Coastal Patrol flew 24 million miles, found 173 subs, attacked 57, hit 10-12 and sank one if not two. By August 31, 1943, it was time for Coastal Patrol to stand down. A German commander later confirmed that coastal U-boat operations were withdrawn 'because of those damned little red and yellow airplanes." Again keep in mind, the CAP was kept secret from the public and the Germans did not know the aircraft were flown by unarmed, civilian pilots. An aircraft is a submarines worst nightmare as a submarine near the surface is easily spotted from the air."
