Title: . report
Post by: crazyivan on July 11, 2009, 01:30:27 PM
Wow,  hey you shot me down and my squad mate. So I'll  get my whole squad to report you.

When my little plane  dies I might call you a tard or just get a new one but this takes the cake!

You suck anyway if i shot you down! and it wont change! Rant off. Zero response from HTC  so i brought it here!

You sent me a PM at 10:25pm last night.  Then some spam message at 1:23pm today.

And because I did not get out of bed and answer it last night, you came in here to do what?  What is the community going to do for you?  I really am curious.

No, you are not just asking.  You specifically stated HTC had not responded so you brought it here.  What was the point of bringing it here?

You wanted to air this out in front of everyone, so let's do it.

It is very childish for people to do this especially as a group. It's not the first time I've heard of it either but what can HTC do about it. The option itself is good and glad it's in place but then again, it can easily be gamed by a bunch of dweebs.

contrary to popular belief, administrators have a life! skuzzy is always the first one to either help someone or take care of a problem. How he puts up with all the BS is beyond me. all i can say is he must love his job.

that being said, nexttime atleast give the man a chance to do what he has to do! at this point, anything you got, you probably deserved anyway.

Rule #1 never screw with the IT guys, or the admins. good luck with your problem. maybe skuzzy will fix it next week when you're a little more grateful for what he does around here!

If he got mass reported for something stupid he said on open channel then he deserves whatever punishment he received.  However, if he was mass reported just because he shot a some guys down and was mass reported in retaliation, those that did it need to and will get what's coming to them.  It's been happening with way too much frequency lately.

It was a really stupid idea though to bring it to the general forums.

I understand the OP's frustration at not being able to have the mute removed in as rapid a manner as it was emplaced; a downside of the ".report" feature is that there is no ".un-report" command, HTC staff must be contacted for a mute to be removed.  I do not berate him for posting that frustration here one iota, in fact I'd say that he more than deserves the right to rant about the abuse of the ".report" function.  The only place he erred was in poking Skuzzy with a sharp stick; had he said "I really wish HTC people were available 24/7" would have certainly been more appropriate.

maybe skuzzy will fix it next week when you're a little more grateful for what he does around here!

Really now!  How would you feel if you had a problem that only Skuzzy could fix and he adopted the attitude you mentioned.  Would you feel that helps or hurts an already unpleasant situation?  Next time when you say some people should be treated in a certain way, take a moment and ask yourself if you would like to be treated in the manner you advocate.  Just something my mother told me a long time ago.  :)

HTC has already proved that its their playground and their rules. Should Skuzzy or anyone else at HTC find a post offensive it IS in their rights to slap an idiot around. It would be very easy to have an idiot wait a week before getting his privileges returned just for acting like an idiot and posting the crap the OP posted, as a lesson to the idiot and anyone else thinking that they too might want to be an idiot and post the same kind of crap that anyone who ISN'T an idiot would know better than to post.

Had the OP had a little patience all would have been resolved tomorrow with out any "drama", but that childish "I want it my way NOW!" attitude could cost him a bit more than a quite weekend.

Oh, did I mention I think the OP was an idiot for bringing this to the boards?   :x

I completely agree with your post.  I feel that the .report command should be eliminated due to its continued abuse.  We as players have the ability to squelch anyone at any time with the .squelch command.  (unless your list is full)  The .report command invites abuse like this.  Frankly I think that the customers of this game need to have thicker skins.  If somebody cusses at me, or says nasty things to me it certainly isn't the first time in my life, and It wont be the last time in my life that it has happened.  In my job it happens maybe once a week to me.

For The record Skuzzy is Saint,  and does a damn fine job!

This is the crux of the biscuit.  If people weren't petulant children, this wouldn't be a problem.  I am not sure there is a coding solution.  There is a place for reporting.  Getting shot down by some one is not that place.

Frankly I think that the customers of this game need to have thicker skins.  If somebody cusses at me, or says nasty things to me it certainly isn't the first time in my life, and It wont be the last time in my life that it has happened.  In my job it happens maybe once a week to me.
There are "younger and more sensitive" players who should not be subjected to inappropriate language.  The game needs to be kept family friendly.  I whine often, especially when I am getting spanked.  I do not think that I have ever gone after anyone personally on open frequencies.

If it were possible to take a deeper look at mass reports.... If it were found that a squad mass reports frequently and the "victim" was not at fault, if the entire squad was muted for one month that kind of behavior would most likely stop. That is the entire squad. Even if some did not participate. Squads would tend to take a better look at folks they bring into their ranks.

I can't understand why players must engage thier enemy with trash talk.

IMHO "trash talk" is usually an attempt by someone to place all blame for their demise on anything else BUT themselves. When I'm killed it is my fault - no one elses - I'm not gonna blame a HO ( takes 2 to tango) - lack of 6 calls (it's my 6 so if I'm not chkin it why should someone else) - I was just taking off/landing (at a CAPed field - my stupidity is your fault??) - on and on and on...LOL

my frame of mind for play :

"Fair? ...you want FAIR?? Go to Disneyland if you want Fair!! All you'll get from me is a mouth fulla 20 mike mikes!!

....and a <S> eh!!

Intersting reading here...I see a lot of demeaning/belittling statements right here in the forum from both new AND old sticks. Guess it's just part and parcel of the culture.

So perhaps a little direction please. While I understand the reason/intent of the ".report" function I'm a little hazy on the mechanics of it.
If I understand it correctly : If a X# of ".reports" are sent during a certain period of time then a communication penalty is assessed against the named individual.

-is this immediate?
-for how long?
-is there a right/method for adjudication?
-guidelines for language? (I find things today on TV/Radio that would heve been no-no 20 years ago)(you'd be surprised at the language that kids 8-10yo use in the school yard today heheh)

I did do a "search" and found bits an pieces here and there but nothing definitive.

thanx for this - a PM pointing me in the right direction is fine.

cheers eh!

*** Oh ya - one final thing - WHY does my plane keep falling out of the air?? Is it because the air around my plane isn't as thick as everyone elses?? Should I have sacrificed a sheep instead of being so cheap and using a gopher??

HT are saying even the part in red?

I know it is your "playground" but I can't see how myself or any other player can be held responsible for people that are 1000 miles away.

Sorry Shuffler I don't see your point in muting people that were not involved in the false mass report. Those people may not have even been on when it happened to try and diswade them from doing it. It may have even been something that was done while the squad leader was not on and also not had a chance to tell them that is not acceptable behavior either. This is one of those things that you can not tell someone is willing to do without a case of it happening. It is not like we know these people outside of AH and have seen how they act away from the mic.

If you find yourself muted and don't know why - because you were not on at the time of the incident - you should look in the forums for the latest "this sucks, I got muted and I don't know why" whine and I'm sure you will find out who done it and why and then you can confront your squad-mate.  Then send an email to HT and get your privileges restored, and move on.

I agree COMPLETELY with what Shuffler is saying.   If you choose to "condone the behavior", the rest of your squad should have to pay the consequence.   I've been mass reported several times and handled it appropriately, not whining on the BBS.   The majority of them were rescinded by Skuzzy.

The larger problem is folks who provoke, then cry foul, ignoring their provoking attacks in the first place.   Which is something out of Junior High School.

I am very sure that none of my squad would do a false ".report". My only concern here is how is it I should be responsible for how a person acts that is 1000 miles away. Sorry one person acting out does not constitute an entire squad to be a problem.

From what you are saying a whole squad should also be muted if one of them uses foul language or barrades another player for not being a team player as well. As it seems to me. Heck let's go all out here and say the entire chess piece should be muted to make sure that everyone that could hear the plans being made puts the idea down before it canbe hatched.

Sorry for the sarcasm and maybe exaggerating the question here but my point is how far back should we point fingers. I can assure you that I will never support mass reporting that is not warranted whether it be a squad mate or not and if a member of my squad would complain about getting muted for doing it someone else I would simply say "Well got what you deserved then didn't yah" and I absolutely never let a member of my squad suggest anything like that without getting a "hell no" from me either.

I just feel that no one is resonsible for my actions but me and I am not responsible for anyone else's actions either but hey you guys are welcome to your opinions as well

One persons use of language is the responsibility of that individual.

When you get a group from a squad reporting in unison for no reason then that group should pay the consequences. If some of that squad were not on and they get muted then they should think about changing squads. If you don't change squads then your just condoning their actions. Therefor you should pay the same penalty.

The idea is to stop false mass reporting from squad mates. Squads should be concerned as to how their members handle themselves in the arenas. Squads should check out an individual before recruiting them, as well, folks should check out a squad before just joining

I respect that opinion and I see where you want the stakes to be high like that Shuffler. Tell me though how using improper language on an open channel is any different than mass reporting and not always is it just a group from one squad. Do you mute all the squads associated with each of the individuals even if it 15 guys each from a different squad?

I do get and understand your point of view Shuffler. I just don't agree with it.

edit:
My main reason though for my original post though was to just double check to see if indeed that red part of my post was included in HT's post or was just simply an over sight because I originally thought that only those involved in the false report were muted. The part addressed to Shuffler was more to offer up my opinion than to be argumentative.

Don't worry Shuffle, I will still be bait for you anytime I'm online. ;)

Ha... I saw no arguement. All i saw was you asking a question. I thought I would clarify my opinion some.

As for someone cussing that is singular. We can squelch him and if one so desires or they can report him. When you get a group together to gang report someone intentionally then there will be problems. Ah does not condone terrorism from what I have seen.

It was an oversight read on my part, we only mute the people in the squad involved in the reporting.

Also ,we do not do this as punishment, but rather as a deterrent.  A squad has never done this twice,I.E. the message got across load and clear.

DK,

I think your confussing things,a mass report is just that multiple players reporting an offence.

Several players whether in 1 squad or many using foul language is not the issue!

I would think the player or players involved in foul language would be dealt with on a per player basis.
Where as the mass report,if done maliciously to have another player muted, would and should be dealt with differently.

I totally agree with Shuf and others on this matter,if a squad is found at fault they should be dealt with as a whole and if this happens to affect you maybe you should rethink you involvement with such a group.

I kind of thougt so, thanks for clarifying. :salute

Morfiend I am not confused but rather used the foul language as an example of how far do we go with being responsible for our squadmate's actions. But thanks foryour input as well.

I couldn't have said it better myself Karaya!  If you have more than 2-4 people in a squad mass reporting false claims, the entire squad should be punished to ensure that proper action is taken by the involved squad to remove or correct such bad behavior.  It is really the only incentive available to the powers that be to stop said improper behavior.  I surely don't have a problem with it.

All the Best...
