Ok..... Sorry but, another "new guy" question.....
Yesterday afternoon in the late war arena I was taking off from one of my airfields(Bishop) and right in front of me taking off and forming up were 3 Lancasters....They were yellow..... I'm green.
Yellow is the color for Rooks right? Green is Bishops? Red is Knights? I haven't made any changes to Icon colors. I was right behind them their .50's staring me in the face..... I wanted to shoot! But, I'm confused... We took off from the same airfield.....They weren't shooting at me.....Does Icon color even matter? LOL So far I'm sure I haven't shot at any "countymen." At least I haven't gotten yelled at for it.
Love this game! But soo much to learn and that's just to fly the plane(I stall my Corsair way to much trying to keep my eyes on the bad guy). I'm quickly becoming an addict; I've already bought the "In Persuit" book and Bob Shaw's book as well. I'm sure it's the closest I'll ever get to being a member of "The Black Sheep." So far I only have about 5 hours in the Arena's(much more shooting at drones in the offline area). It's hard when you have to shut the game down and go pay the bills....

No the enemy should always be red. Go into your clip board and http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/ then http://www2.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/ccolors.html Assign colors in you GUI icon display controls. Make sure "friendly" is checked green and enemy is checked red. If your in a squad you can assign a color for them too.
-
If you haven't changed icon color, enemy is always red while friendlies are green, no matter if you are bish, knight or rook.
Yellow is used for friendlies in same mission as you.
You can also highlight a specific player by use of the .wingman [CALLSIGN] command. and if you tune into a vox channel, players on your channel will also have a specific color (I don't remember the default)
-
Easiest thing to do is look at the icon information. If has the symbol of a bishop and you are a bishop then that is a friendly. Also take a look at the name. If you didn't change anything the the persons callsign should be right next to the symbol of their country.
You can always go into the 'GUI' settings in the options and change you icon colors so it really doesn't matter what color you chose as long as you know what color the enemy and friendly is.
Another thing to remember is that all enemy plane icons will be the same color no matter what country they are. There are however two different colors on the clipboard map to easily show you who owns what bases.
-
That's another thing I like about this game....
Lot's of very cool people that are happy to help out.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Of course this means I won't be shooting at you if we're on the same side too......
-
Your vox channel is tuned to the mission channel. Everyone on that channel will be yellow. You can go to clipboard/options/gui to change the colors to your liking. :salute
-
I've already bought the "In Pursuit" book and Bob Shaw's book as well.
both highly recommended :aok bag some time with a trainer too and you'll be a stone cold killer in no time :)
-
Training arena helps but im learnin f4us myself ill talk you through does and donts! have fun.

Another thing you may not know ... this game has what is called "Killshooter" ... if you do shoot a fellow countryman, YOU will receive the damage that he would have inflicted from your bullets ... if you shoot his wing ... your wing will be damaged. So ... be careful when shooting at an enemy when there are other "friendlies" in pursuit of the same target.
-
I ounce ingaged a Red plane above my base, as soon as I fired on him I started receiving damage from my own bullets due to the killshoot feature and a nice butt chewing from the Red guy who evidently was on my side. His icon was Red not Green but he was on the same side as me, only happened once but it was weird.

Normally, red "bad guy" icons are denoted by plane type, not player ID. If the aircraft has a player ID on it by default, don't shoot at it. The results are rather dire.
-
I think yellow is the default for both being in the same mission, and being on the same radio channel.

Ya your right but this Red plane didn't even have a player ID, it a Red P-51, I ended up in the Tower and when I took off again all was normal, it must have been a glich or something.
-
Maybe the second red plane picked you.... :aok
It's the one you don't see that will almost always get you.
-
Yellow is the default for everyone in the same mission. Orange is the default for everyone tuned to the same country vox channel (100-199).
-
One more thing.... Keep in mind the colors on the map if you change anything. I had a wingman that set his wingman color to white... easy to see on most terrains. We flew a scenario on a snowed in terrain..... he lost me as soon as we encountered the enemy. My white icon blending in with the snow meant he lost me and could not follow along.

Try "Check 6" as well...
(I'm not personally a fan of "In Pursuit," TBH. It should be called, "If they're in pursuit, then run!" ;) ).

Beware of the helpful ALT F4 messages. :D

Wow... More great info!
I only know I don't know a lot..... Don't know what it is......
I guess I should make sure that my radio is just tuned to my country only.......I wonder what mission I was supposed to be flying.
I have invested in a CH Combatstick and, rudder pedals. They work great but the "stick" is a little large so, it's been a little tough to get used to the POV Hat. I don't have a headset yet......I'm not the fastest at typing messages either. Pretty much all of my typing has been thanking people for getting me out of trouble....... So far the only complements I've gotten in the arena is "wow, you dragged that guy perfectly..." I'm thinking...Great, glad you thought so. I was just trying to see where the #@!% He was shooting me from.
Apparently... Here at least, great pilots are not born. They're made.... By being killed over and, over and, over again..... At least I hope so, because if it's true.... I'm well on my way to greatness!!!

Go down to your local hardware store and grab some foam tubing. With about 3/4" or so of that, and a rubber band, your CH stick will fit perfectly :aok

Hey Vudak,
Thanks for the foam idea but, I think it might make it more difficult.
I use the large trigger button for my up view and my thumb to rotate the POV hat. Because the CH Combatstick is a little large my hand slips off sometimes....Part of it is my fault and just not being used to it.
I think if I had any thing else around the stick it might make my grip a little worse, unless I missed the point.
Thanks

I don't think we're on the same page... You attach the foam to the base of the joystick to effectively raise the rest/supporter for the bottom of your hand.

This is almost standard operation for most folks. I have dense foam on my base. Effectively raising the hand rest up about one inch.

Ok...On the same page. Now it makes sense.
LOL
Thanks!

I had the same problem with mt CH Combatstick, the grip is large and I have rather small hands (you know what they say about people with small hands.... they have little tiny gloves! :x), enough so that I couldn't push up the hat switch with my thumb and still keep my hand around the grip and index finger on primary weapon at the same time. That, coupled with the feeling of awkwardness that comes with not ever having used hat-switches for views before - never flown sims prior to this one, not since the early '90's - there was one VERY GOOD solution that I cannot live without now....
TrackIR.
Seriously. worth. every. penny.
If you haven't heard of it before, look into it. Lets you move the view on the screen by moving your head.

You and me, brother!

TrackIR looks awesome. I'd love to get it..... Actually I have to get a headset this weekend......
Then TrackIR.
