Wow. I love my Crown and JD, but a buddy of mine turned me on to Jameson and.........it kind went like this :uhoh :x :)
Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry smooth.
Just thought I'd pass it along to my fellow alkies. :)
-
Jameson is awesome, although I also love equally Glennfiddich and Glenlivett (sp?)
I bought a bottle for my old man, who really loves scotch, but we're both struggling with it... Laphroaig..... must be a very acquired taste..... INTENSE peat smoke flavor, a glassful with a few cubes of ice and you feel like you're drinking a rainy glass of campfire ashes mixed with scotch.
But most of the time, it's the good, cheap stand-by:

[WARNING] Drinking multiple glasses of this has been known to cause people to repeatedly fly cartoon airplanes into the ground late at night![WARNING]

I'm more a Vodka guy personally... My favorite is a Danish vodka called Danaka....
-
i was more of a beer guy.......problem is that i totally stopped drinking anything with alchohol as soon as i got my ppl.
the club i fly with has 24/7 availibility of aircraft, thus i refuse to drink, as we all do stupid things after a few drinks.......
-
not a big drinker.......but when I do.......it's always Dewars on the rocks.
-
As a Scot, I shouldn't approve of Jamiesons, but I do. Its a darn fine sipping whiskey.
On the other hand, if you want to fall in love with a real Scotch, try to find a bottle of Springbank from Cambeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. Some of you Air Force guys might remember the place from flying through Machrihanish. Beautiful part of the world and a really great single malt.
-
Try GLENMORANGIE.
About the best I knew. Old single malt basically is good. Drink cool with a little wee of water in it, arrrrfff!
-
Yes, few here know but now you all do, I am the most interesting man in the world and I don't always drink beer but when I do I prefer Dos Equis.

But seriously, here are my two good friends.
Everyone meet, Mr. Evan Williams Single Barrel

and his buddy and my bestest friend in the world......

Mr. Jagermeister, ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Biggest difference between your Irish whiskey and your Scotch whisky - besides the spelling - is that your Irish whiskies are a lot smoother and don't have the smokiness of your classic Scotch single malts. So fans of one aren't necessarily fans of the other. But Jameson's is terrific, as is Black Bush, which is a little sweeter.

For the bourbon lovers I recently discovered Blanton's, I find it to be mighty tasty.

I love bourbon, big fan of Woodford reserve. :aok
-
I was watching the Hitler Channel's piece on alcohol, and they said that Laphroaig is the most popular scotch in the world. I thought it ranked only slightly worse than Mr Skotch. It is definitely an acquired taste.

AAJager-Bombs!!! :O

Buncha dang sots here. :D
Some fine suggestions given. I'll have to check em out. :aok

My favorite was Belvedere... Never could stand Grey Goose.
-
My favorite for sippin’ has to be Laird’s Applejack. If I am correct, it is 35% apple brandy mixed with 65% neutral spirit. (I would guess that to mean vodka).
Unbelievably smooth with just a little apple cider aroma…

Try some of The Macallan. Best whisky I've ever had, add just a touch of water and presto.

Laphroaig is one of my favorites but it needs to be sipped neat and (IMO) tastes best at room temps - maybe put a couple of drops of water at the most to bring out the flavour a bit(seriously) but definitely no ice or mix. Too much water, or ice, will produce pretty much the taste you described. Drink it neat and you get the smokey, peaty flavour with hints of taste like the ocean smells on a clean beach with an onshore breeze.
My regular drink is 12yr old Aberlour. Very smooth and tastey but a whole bunch of dollars cheaper (up here) than Laphroaig.
which reminds me....
I'm thirsty.
Cheers,
asw

This deserves re-reading... I absolutely agree with Shiv on this one... But I still prefer a nice Danish Vodka on ice, with a twist of lime...
-
I've got a bottle of this sitting in my cupboard waiting for graduation day (4 months and counting)

No ice, no mixers.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. :)

Glenmorangie is the Budweiser of single malts. Was drinking 15 year old Jura at the weekend. Very nice.

Diageo, the owners of the Johnnie Walker brand, are currently the most hated company in Scotland. Google 'Diageo' and 'Kilmarnock'.

I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. IMHO, Budweiser might as well be carbonated piss.

Yes! Have you ever tried Knob Creek? It's about 40 bucks a quart i think. The bottle is corked and sealed with wax, which i think is cool too. Someone else mentioned Evan Williams, also a good bourbon whiskey. :salute

I was meaning more it is the default choice of the masses....
Nothing much wrong with it, its just I find it unspectacular in most ways. At least the standard 10 year old.

I stay away from that stuff ever since the summer of 72.

While I am currently enjoying a taste of the Crown Royal I really do enjoy a nice single malt
