Jameson is awesome, although I also love equally Glennfiddich and Glenlivett (sp?)

I bought a bottle for my old man, who really loves scotch, but we're both struggling with it... Laphroaig..... must be a very acquired taste..... INTENSE peat smoke flavor, a glassful with a few cubes of ice and you feel like you're drinking a rainy glass of campfire ashes mixed with scotch.

But most of the time, it's the good, cheap stand-by:

As a Scot, I shouldn't approve of Jamiesons, but I do. Its a darn fine sipping whiskey.

On the other hand, if you want to fall in love with a real Scotch, try to find a bottle of Springbank from Cambeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. Some of you Air Force guys might remember the place from flying through Machrihanish. Beautiful part of the world and a really great single malt.

Try GLENMORANGIE.
About the best I knew. Old single malt basically is good. Drink cool with a little wee of water in it, arrrrfff!
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Biggest difference between your Irish whiskey and your Scotch whisky  - besides the spelling - is that your Irish whiskies are a lot smoother and don't have the smokiness of your classic Scotch single malts.  So fans of one aren't necessarily fans of the other.  But Jameson's is terrific, as is Black Bush, which is a little sweeter.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

I was watching the Hitler Channel's piece on alcohol, and they said that Laphroaig is the most popular scotch in the world. I thought it ranked only slightly worse than Mr Skotch. It is definitely an acquired taste.
