If you're gonna do fantasy wallpapers, you're just dabbling in amature-ville if you're not looking at Boris Vallejo.
I won't post any pics out of respect to the forum rules (hi skuzzy!) but here is a work-safe link if you're not familiar. A google search will fill in the blanks :)

It's an H.R. Giger work. Ever seen Aliens(the movie)? If you have, then the creature in the center should look familiar.
-
I change mine periodically, but since I'm into WWII IJN Ships right now, thats what I have on.. Looks great on a 47inch HD Monitor..
Kinda cool how it shows the Bowed flight deck.. Planes Landed uphill, and tookoff downhill.. Don't think anyone else did that on their carriers...

Map of the internet. I had no idea the internet was so beautiful until I found the Opte project. I thought it would be darker, and full of trolls and LOLcats.
Super High definition link, where you can discern all the domain names (is that the right word?), though it just doesn't look as nice.
.net, .ca, and .us are dark blue, .com, and .org are green, .mil, .gov, and .edu are red,
.jp, .cn, .tw, and .au are yellow, .de, .uk, .it, .pl, and .fr are magenta, .br, .kr, and .nl are light blue, and unknown is white.
It looks almost like stars, and is the only wallpaper my folks and I can agree on.

Concept inw atm .. I post it up as my wallpaper so I can nitpick it as I go :)
Still a lot to do on it, but proportions are lookin good and makin the headers was *fun* !! .. created lines with smooth vertexes, typed in diameter of 1.75" (cause that's a good header diameter for a 426 Hemi :) ..turned on visible in viewport ..when they were all laid out and clear of everything, and into the 4" collector, 'create mesh' .. bingo! .. Headers :)

My dad served 20 years, Enlisted in 71. He Served with VA-65, VA-34 & VA-85 also VS-33. He was in Aviation Maintenance. Retired as a Lt in 1991.
Every where I lived, Intruders flew overhead. (not to mention everything else in the Navy Inventory during the 80's)... VA Beach x2, Pensacola, San Diego.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I have plenty of High Quality pictures of A-6s and F-4s that are great for Desktops, But if you're like my dad, your probably tired of looking at them :)

How come?

How come?
USAF has zero interest in me. I'm still a candidate at the Academy, but I know I just don't have the credentials for that kind of thing. AFROTC is, well, rather cold to deal with and the local USAF recruiters are completely uninterested in ANYONE. In fact, they're almost at the point of just turning folks away at the door. I just get the feeling the USAF won't be accepting me as an officer. The United States Navy however is tripping over it's collective self to get hold of me. I get at least 3 phone calls a week, one from NROTC checking in on me, my application, etc., and offering advice; One from Nuclear somethingorother wanting me to become a Nuclear Engineer, and a wild-card call from one of various USN Recruiting commands trying to sell me on the Navy. I'm also holding candidacy at Anapolis, and made it through Summer Seminar there, but I know Im just not what they're looking for either. I would LOVE to fly for the Air Force. Without a doubt they are my first choice. It just doesn't seem to be coming together.

-
It was the opposite for me...USN didn't seem to care but USAF spent the time.
Still, nobody will do it for you, and any recruiting apathy might just be local. Do the work with the applications and see.

Oh yeah, I'm a candidate at both Academies, and both ROTC programs. Funny thing for me is realizing how hard-core pro-USAF I've always been, my years in CAP, etc... and now its the Navy who wants me, lol.

Damn, those visuals look good GE..... Not much into subs tho...
What I'd really like is a modern PC version of the old game "JUTLAND"...
Or even, "Wooden ships and Iron men"....
AH has MAJOR potential in this area, hoping someday they will release it!!!
Detailed surface actions, would be a blast... What we have in the game now
is just a tiny tease, of what is really possible!!!!
Faith in the future of the game is what keeps me subscribed...
Even tho I hardly ever get online anymore!!!

Yassir Rip .. the modeling of water, fire, smoke ..and the detail on the ships themselves is at the stage these days where a good surface Navy sim would be like being there. There is such a large scope of possibilities .. they could start with pt boat/tin can action in the Slot in the early days of the 'Canal and work up to historical fights (Leyte Gulf ..oh my) ..then mission editors where you take the New Jersey thru a Jap Task force at night (!!) There's just somethin about tearin stuff up with 16 INCH guns :)

I didn't mean that was odd, I see F-16s at GA ramps here in the So-Cal area very often. It's just that they all have some unit markings or another. My guess is those F-18s were maybe new arivals from the factory, on their way to being deployed on some task force and their new unit, and thus why they're so clean and new looking with no unit markings. But I hate guessing about things I just don't know.

Um, yeah it kinda is odd, when if they had just taken a different taxiway they would be on a dedicated MILITARY ramp, where I see transiting fighters regularly. Hickam Air Force Base, PacAFCom is connected to the airport the Hornets were at. They share 4 runways. I've seen Hornets, Tomcats, Raptors, P-3s, you name it parked on the ramp at Hickam, but NEVER seen a military aircraft at GA.

Four years ago, I'm sitting in my dorm room eating breakfast, staring out the window.

WTF. This was Los Angeles area by the way.
Oh I got some B2 tales to share from growing up around here in LA.
They've flown around in the Santa Monica mountains back in '01 and '02, maybe even '03. Low-level flight training in rugged mountain environment is my best guess, but these mountains are far from home for them (though they are rugged and steep with many small valleys between them... afghanistanish as one of my friends put it) and the general direction they seem to be flying seems to be en-route to or from either the Point Magu NAFB offshore weapons test range (which makes the most sense to me) or just using the very rugged environment right next to a heavy urban setting (which makes the least sense to me). I've seen them flying maybe no higher than 5k in the day over the mountains, low but not on the deck (and a few of my friends have too in the middle of the day), but I swear on a bible, back in my more youthful days me and a few friends would meet up at this point in the Santa Monica mountains, and we got buzzed by a B2 twice in the middle of the night on two separate occasions about 5 months apart.
We had this "spot" that was a great perch on a hill, between two higher hills, and that had an overlook of the San Fernando valley and behind us was a decent sized valley nestled with some much larger mountains behind it. We frequented this spot about 3-4 times a week as a get-together spot for drinking some beers and smoking a lot of dope or to sneak our girlfriends off to since it was isolated and the way to get to it was a bit hidden (you took a fire road, and then in a spot that dropped off the main fire road (and nobody could tell it was another dirt road unless you knew it was there) was a little dirt road that wound 100-200 yards to our spot ontop of the hill).
Now yes, both times none of us were completely sober but we weren't doing any drugs that would make you mistake what we saw. The first time it happened it was two cars, with all of us piled in one and hotboxing it. Me and my mates had finished hotboxing for the second or third time that night, it was around 3am and we had been there since 9 or 10pm. One of my buddies was playing tongue tackle with his girl in the back seat of my car while me and two other friends were mingling around my trunk, enjoying the view over the valley at night, the air, and some stogies. First thing you hear is my budy in the car with his girl go "what's that?" loud enough that those of us outside the car heard it, so as those of us outside chuckled (hey, if your budy was in the backseat with a chick and you heard "what's that?", what would your first thought be?) and turned our heads to look and see what was going on in the car, we hear this whine for maybe one second before a big and loud "VOOSH" with something very big just passing us by ontop by maybe 100 feet or less. It was almost deafening. As we turned our heads again and back the other way to see what it was I could just make out (it was a dark night with exception to the glow in the skyline from the city's lights) the infamous huge single-wing silhouette of a B2 as it was climbing up out and away from the mountains and away from us, making its way across the SF valley and towards presumably home. One of my mates instantly asked "what the hell was that". My responce was "boom, we're dead". He looked puzzled at me, and I explained we just got buzzed by a B2 and had we been in a war zone, likely dead before we knew what hit us. I'll be honest though, if I didn't see it myself, I wouldn't of believed a B2 cruising the deck and doing a mock low-level bombing run on our "spot".
About 5-months later I was there again, this time there was three cars, mine was unoccupied, three mates were hanging out and hotboxing and drinking beers in the other, and I was in the bed of my girlfriend's father's truck putting it to good use ;) . This time I was the guy busy with his girl while noticing a big black B2 silhouette in the mountains and valley behind us sneaking up on us. I literally only had enough time to say "Babe, remember that time I told you about us almost being bombed up here"... "VOOSH!"... this time much lower than the first time (felt like if I was standing ontop of the pickup truck cab I might of been able to touch it). She screamed then laughed and asked if that was it, and since only one of the guys in the other car was there the first time, the two newbies supposedly (I couldn't hear it myself over the jet's roar) let out a good squeal since they were caught completely off-guard. This time I was for sure able to identify it as a B2, had some moonlight and I saw it coming and going. Again, after buzzing us ontop of the hill, it continued it's upward climb off into the night and towards it's home in the desert.
About 6-months after the last time the B2 pilot had some fun with us there was a really bad arson fire season here in SoCal, and so our open fire-road was chained and closed down for security reasons. Really sucked since we loved our spot and the memories we had there, and of course we never were able to see our B2 pilot friend again, who I'm sure was just as sad at us no longer being there for his runs as we were.

Enjoy! Just understand that if I could afford to drive WRC, I would in a heartbeat. I went to Rally School in 1996 and impressed the Team McNeil School. To be able to do this for a living would be incredible; the rush, concentration and skillset improvement would be the key for me.

No Bimmer. :frown: Subaru, Mitsubishi, Citroen, Ford and Peugot. The Porsche 959 is a rare pic of it (that size) in the Paris-Dakar Rally in 86.

That Norway shot is real pretty, I love the snow rallies. Also, if you have as much air as that ford, your navigator probably screwed up :lol.
I used to rock my Camry through the back roads of western NY all the time. I wish I was kidding. Nothing like putting that beastly 2.4 into a long power slide hairpin to get the blood flowing. :rock I over corrected her into a ditch/tree once, but other than that and a couple rocks in the undercarriage, maintained a pretty good track record. Unbelievable how smooth the handling was on such a basic sedan. :aok
I too would without hesitation have joined some local rally leagues had I the funding to get/maintain a real car. Now that I live in DC, the closest thing I have is my somewhat reckless biking habits through incompetent traffic. In many ways it is more dangerous than firing a camry down dirt roads at excessive speeds :rofl

Is that the Aflac duck in the passenger seat?

I learned to drive on the dirt roads in Montana ..in the winter, it was steer for the center of the fences, cause there was no road to see after a new snowfall :)
Fun to get a '53 merc sideways an work the drift thru a hairpin.
Nowhere near as fast as a WRX would do it by far .. but it's where I learned to drive a car, not just trundle point A to B.
,.. still take any car I own out to an empty parkin lot an wring it out a bit .. I want to know what they do and how fast they do it and what it takes to make 'em not do it .. an stuff.
Just like you're sposed to do with an airplane ..you have to know when she gives up ..an stuff.

No, but that Norton Virus (and yes, I left the Anti- off by intent) sure as hell does.

Ok, just cause you have heard bad stuff about it or what not doesn't mean it's bad. It works perfectly fine and it does not affect my systems performance so quit being biased against it. That right there is what annoys and irritates me. It places within the top ten of the best ANTI-Virus software available.

It is ok for PC neophites.
It does affect your system performance.
In some cases it is more intrusive than the virus it is supposed to catch.
Even though it has a smaller footprint than in the past it still is a hog compared to others.
Last but not least... use what you want, it is your machine.

For what you paid for one year of Norton, I paid $30 more for a two-year subscription on ESET Smart Security Suite (including NOD32). That "price differential" is leaps and bounds more than "worth it".
Norton does suck, so does AVG, McAfee, Kaspersky and most others.

I use to swear by Norton.Loved it ever since the dos norton commander but for the past 7 years or so its been substandard IMNSHO.
