It seems to me that the eye candy thing has run it's full course, and we are back to about where we started. The graphics look about the same to me,and that is after they had to do a lot of fixes to get it where the lower end puter owners could hang in there. With the nice looking water, terrain, etc. came the stutters, but not all seemed to be adversely affected.Strangely enough,my puter seems to run the game the same no matter what, and it's no killer rig...AMD 6000,4 gigs ram,Nvidia 8800GT,not clocked.I get some freezes..stutters,but not enough to be concerned about.I've ran the game at 512 and 1024 and I don't see any difference.Heck I didn't mind Air Warrior graphics.I'm just glad to see that this last patch seems to help a lot of folks.

I think what you've got is a company who are busting a gut to satisfy as many of their customers as possible
-
Unless you install the Hi-Res patch you won't see the difference

Your rig is better than mine and i have had no problems what so ever
Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHZ
2GB Ram
Nvidia 6800GT 128mb

The moving ripples on the water, the reflections off the water and the sun's reflections off individual ripples were'nt there in the last version or was the appearance of water depth near shore. I was marveling at this today on a PT mission.
Earlier in the day I had the pleasure of GVing in Orange on the big island map. I was GVing near the two GV bases on that SE island with the tall mountains seperating them from the airfields. From the vehicle spawn there was a long rolling hillside juxtaposed against what looked like snow covered, or at least frost covered mountains. Absolutely beutiful. I flew by these mountains later and was very pleased with their look.
The trees are all different. Now rather than a choice of evergreen or deciduous there are 5-6 or more different types in different colors. The trunks actually look like tree trunks now and the ground shrubbery is greatly improved.
I think you are totally wrong in your assesment. This is a massive improvement.

I really wasn't meaning to badmouth the new graphics.I think the AH gang really done a good job.I just don't care as much about the graphics as perhaps the next guy would.I run the Hi Res version, and I get 60 fps most all the time.I use the default graphic settings, and the game is great by me.The stutter whilst panning has never completely gone away, and in all honesty I've never been able to figure it out.I really wish that everyone could play w/o problems,as it's frustrating to see a lot of the vets having a hard time getting the game to run well. The AH II update also had very similar problems, and they got it right after a few patches.

I'm lovin it.
Not a killer rig, but I get steady 40-50 framerates which is rock solid with no stutters-
AMD64 x2 4200+, 2 gigs of RAM, Radeon 4850, SB Audigy 4.
Gorgeous game now. Very, VERY cool.

I have uber shadow effects and perfect clouds with the update. FR went from 60 to about 44. That is not so bad considering that my monitor goes jittery above 60 Frames and the human eye can't really tell the diference past about 45. The refresh rate, or whatever its called, tops out at 60, but sometimes it acts like it went over the limit and jumps around like this ----> :x until I bump it down to 59 in the control panel menu and then bring it back to 60. It did that in the old version, too. I have no complaints at the moment except that I have been picked while looking around at the new eye candy.

Hope so for you too TB. I've been happy to say that I have experienced almost no issues in any update whatsoever, and I'm even on a dreaded VISTA machine. But I feel bad for those who have =(

Happent to play AH in a High end comp couple weeks ago. I was flying high at about 15K and the top of the mountains just looked amazing, fantastic. Never had the Chance of see such an improvement. I think the HTC staff did a great work. There are many things left to be done but this a great improvement. Maybe next time the flight model will improve -the usual whine of mine- that will make the planes more "heavy" and not the ultralight version that exist today especially with the spixteen. One more thing maybe HTC could make some earcandy improvements. I know that all engines have the same sound. I think in this point HTC can make some differences with the engine sound to varies with the exact type of aircraft we fly and improvements in gun sound also, especially those of 20mm.

Three words for you...custom...sound...pack.
I have some files you could use that are plane/engine specific...allison, jumo, rolls royce...even gun sounds that are specific to the weapon type.

You can get ear candy sound packs from the sounds and skins forum. :aok

Patch 6 fixed the AMD issue that forced you to use compatibility mode. FPS is much better so far.

I figured it was an AMD issue.
Logged in today and used the new patch (6) to a very satisfactory end. Very happy to see the improvement, steady FR and no stutters with the detail turned ON. A week ago, I couldn't up with massive stutters and a FR of 5, with detail off.
-
After some new graphics cards I have zero issues now. :aok

Yep, no stutters whatsoever anymore, and rock solid 50-70 fps pretty much everywhere. Much better :)

We can see custom skins in the film viewer again as well. :aok

Got two new airplanes as well. Both of which, I think, will have a place.
Most of all the Brewster.
I like the new graphics too.
