Brutally ripped from squadmate Baumers thread on private BBS.
I have made a gun sight for the WGr21 rockets. They are the German air to air rockets on the Bf109G-2/6/14, Bf 110G-2, and Fw190A-5 & 8. I've developed a couple different versions and I've posted them below.

Just copy them into the sights folder in the HTC directory.
They are still rather difficult to use so I'll explain the setup a bit.
I approach from behind and above the bombers, trying to line up on the center plane. Combat Trim is enabled and avoid using any rudder for best results. Closing rate and range are critical to getting a good shot. I try to come in at 400 mph true if possible, and hope the bomber is going full speed. The bar is equal to the wingspan of a B-24 at 1200 yards, when they match that's when you fire. The B-17 and Lancaster have a slightly narrower wingspan, so fire just before they are as wide as the bar. Another good indicator for when to fire is when the range to target goes from -1.5 to -1 in the icon.
I've attached a screen shot of the proper firing position

Baumer did you have a dedicated 110 sight also?
-
a truly great example of why aces high is a great game. i go to the trainer arena with a question about 110gs rockets. and i get this thread posted by Ghosth in no less than 5 minutes. honestly thats what i call service. <<S>> Ghosth!

So THAT'S what you guys were talking about...
-
There is no need to have a gunsite for the WGr21 on the Me110. Just come in right behind the bombers at around 300 TAS and bellybutton soon as the icon goes from 1.5k to 1.0k fire all four rockets in quick secsession and you'll get the whole formation. To aim just put the lead bomber in that little dip in the gunsite holder. That method is so precise that Iv actually had rockets make contact with bombers on several occasions.
-
Yea search for Rockets vs. bombers. Aim high and at about 1.5 to 1k. The proxy fuse takes care of the rest.
-
WGr21s don't have a proxy fuse.
-
sombody said they did. Bad info......sorry. I guess i'm just that good :D
-
The rockets don't use the same fuse as our 5 inchers in the game?

Nope.
-
Yeah, I hear they are time-delay...not proxy fuse.
-
sorry about the neco bump but ghosth can you repost them :pray

Seconded! ;)

Do it enough times, you don't even have to fire all your rockets. It's a blast, pun intended, though to watch the bombers go down in flames, without them having a chance to return fire.

WGr21 rockets have a 1000yd fuze, as well as an impact fuze.
Also, fix the links to your pics, and please give us a link to where we can download your gunsites.
-
Actually I've lost track of them. You'd have to ask Baumer, he's the artist.

here I got a tread with an alive link

edit i think its dead Im going to pm baumer

There is this early one, which isn't bad.
And then this one, which I think is for the air to ground rockets in the 190F8.
I'm not finding any of the others saved on my system.
Probably Baumer still has them.

Can you create your own gunsights with a program as simple as paint?
-
The one with the boxes has been listed as the A2G one.
The problem with a "gunsight" for WGr 21s is that it won't ever aim true in 99% of cases. Every thing from your pitch up/down, your airspeed when releasing, the target's orientation, angle, speed, etc, will ALL affect how and where the rockets fly.
From a dead level, even speed, if you match the target's speed and alt precisely with no deviation in your course, it will be about 1.4k to target. However, I've lobbed them at about every angle you can imagine. You dive on a target and your rockets will got further because they have your kinetic energy behind them. You climb up at a target and they won't go as far because they are starting from a slower speed.
I've had lancs flying past me, been way too low and out of position in a 190A, lobbed a rocket almost on-the-pipper for my gunsight, and saw the fluffy puffs and got the kills. Other times I've had to nose up so high I'm firing blind at targets well under my nose and still hit.
No gunsight you could draw on a bitmap would have helped me in either case.

I once read a thread on how to use the 110's (among other similar luftwaffle aircraft) gunsight mount as a sight. I doubt any of you have ever noticed, but at the bottom of the gunsight there is a little trapezoid-like shape. The thread showed how one can use that sight picture effectively with the Wgr21 rockets.
Unfortunately, I don't have a link and I don't remember how it was used :(
-
O get seem to get it in to my stuff use it
-
Here's a vid of me using them if you never seen it :-)

Yes!
As long as you remember to stick to a few basics.
Size, save as .bmp, how many colors (256 vs 12 million)
The new "Irfanview" has a simple paint box that you can bring up.
Letting you create, draw lines, circles, etc. Not to mention the thousands of things it did before.
It also lets you input text into a selected zone.
These will be rather simple sights, ie can't adjust the "alpha" channel, those take a more complicated program. Should be posts elsewhere on how.
But I've used paint and Irfanview for years to create, and edit gunsights.
Can you create your own gunsights with a program as simple as paint?
-
Thanks ghosth, I will begin making sights, should be fun to experiment with them.
-
hey ghosth how do I save a gun sight to use in game
-
Take either of the 2 sights I posted above, right click on the image, choose "save as" from the drop down menu.
Save to your Aces High Install directory. Normally something like C:/Hitechcreations/AcesHigh II/sights folder.
Start up AH, see if the new sight is in the list.
-
Here is the sight for the WGr21 as Ghosth said.
Attack from dead astern, I prefer to start with a slight dive, then level out at the same altitude as the bombers. For me, this produced the most consistent attack with good results.
-
Not working :joystick: but my rig is a piece watermelon aka touch pad
-
Wow that was amazing. I suppose I can't do the same with the 5" HVARs though, huh? :(
-
Pappy, if you look up a few posts you'll see a sight with the 2 boxes, another of Baumers sights.
I've used this with some success using the Mossie's rockets, some simple tests with angle and distance should allow you to use them with any rockets.
Simply go into the TA and load and test with the LCG,note angle of attack and distance, some help from a friend in a GV would be a great asset for this.
:salute
-
Oh geeze wow yes. The TA needs a visit for more than just that. I've downloaded both sights; I think I like the bar one.
Those Spitfire and P-51 kills with the rockets was amazing though...
-
The rest of the rockets in AH like the 5" Hvar's are not time fuzed, so they won't explode downrange unless they hit something. The WGr21 rockets were time fuzed so you can aim it, have it explode at a given range, sending shrapnel all over, doing lots of damage.
So no, not exactly.
Although there are a few (very few actually) reports of people hitting planes with rockets.
I did it once years back in a TBM, hit a p47 in a HO attack, popped him right on the spinner, blew the engine right back through the cockpit. Hugely satisfying, but incredibly difficult.
Wow that was amazing. I suppose I can't do the same with the 5" HVARs though, huh? :(

I managed to do it once as well. I was in a P-38J, turn fighting with a 190D. Was RTB'ing for ammo(30 .50 rounds, and no 20mm's). Turned inside him, and got to D100, and cut loose with the rockets (had them for the town, which was down, and everything I could kill on base was already down). Just barely hit the tail, but blew it right off.

Thanks, it's about all I do though haha.
