A) Are you sure it's a F-18?
B) Where is the video?

Not an F-18, but I don't guess that's the point......
-
I'm guessing F1 Mirage?

I'm guessing F1 Mirage?

Harrier?

Harrier?
Keep guessing....
-
I didn't think it was a f-18.
-
Thats an easy one to rule out.......no twin tail!
:D
-
After further review, I'm going with Sepecat Jaguar.
-
at 39 sec. got a ok pic of it. :D
-
No twin tail and swept wings def not a f-18.
-
After further review, I'm going with Sepecat Jaguar.
We have a winner!

We have a winner!
It's not a Jaguar, it doesn't have square intakes for example. It's quite clearly a Mirage F.1. Intakes, ventral tailfins and fixed refuelling boom are the give aways.

Agree...Mirage F1.
And a Frenchman with the common sense of a possum on an interstate....

The guy looked like he needed new shorts :D

I disagree...
The one in the video doesn't have the guide cone in the inlet, not that I can see anyway. Also, I have never seen a Mirage with the ECM or threat detection pod in the upper tail. The inlet looks to high to be a Mirage but appears to be round or square depending on the frame. I have heard both aircraft many times, it certainly does not not sound like a Mirage tho the sound quality is quite poor. Having personally worked on and around a Sepecat Jaguar I will say it sounds awfully familiar.
In any event its not worth arguing over, we could all agree that is one crazy dude on the runway.
Strip
-
it kind of even looks like an intruder from the front.
-
I agree that it's not worth arguing over. I just think that the inlet guides won't show up because of the low resolution of the video and the dark camo of the plane. It's the refuelling boom made me more or less sure it's a Mirage. You can kinda see a lighter shade on the right intake which looks like the intake guide. Also, the desert setting kinda reminds me of Tchad. :)

that's a harrier. not a hornet.
-
The harrier does not have ventral fins....the plane in the video does.

i don't see any ventral fins.
-
They are there.......have to catch it high in the camera frame tho.

might not be a harrier....could be one of the mirages......but it absolutley not a hornet.
-
Most have pretty much decided its a Mirage or SEPECAT Jaguar......
-
that's a harrier. not a hornet.
IIRC, the Harrier can't carry a center tank. That's where the landing gear is.
-
Harriers have two landing gear right under the fuselage and two smaller wing point gear (or whatever you would call them). Now are there any variations that would allow for a fuselage tank? Just curious.
And I agree Mirage F1.
-
This is a Mirage F.1
(http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/SuperHornet69/MirageF-1Colmar273.jpg)
This is a Sepecat Jaguar
(http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/1/7/9/1211971.jpg)
Any questions?
Note that the fighter in the original video has no dihedral or anhedral of the elevators, whereas the Jaguar has pronounced anhedral (as does the Harrier). Anhedral means that the elevator angles downward from the fuselage (as does that of the Phantom II).
I don't see that anyone can argue that the fighter in the video is not a Mirage F.1. It's certainly NOT a Jaguar.

Looked over that video 100 times and looked at the pics widewing posted. It is clearly a Mirage. there are five points i look for in the video and from the mirage and jaguar. I can see clearly the five point in the video that indicated it is a mirage.
-
For a sec I thought it was an A-4
but ya it's the F1
-
Instant giveaway is the French DPM on the very cool and collected guy and definitely a Mirage F1. Which is one of my favourite jets as it happens. A few centimetres lower and it would have been a very different video. :O

I'm not much a fan of the F1 but it may change in the future, that front view looks racy and agressive :)

Couldn't of said it better. :D
As for someone mislableing it as an F-18... I'll get the tar and feathers.
