Title: He-111 Train Buster
Post by: beau32 on September 17, 2009, 08:16:50 PM
(http://www.btinternet.com/~air_research/imageskg55/p78snow.jpg)

This rare photograph shows an He111 H-16 used by 14.(Eis)/KG55 the specialist train-busting unit. It has been fitted with six forward firing 20mm cannon. He111s of this unit were fitted with an electronic alitmeter that allowed them to fly at only 20 metres above the tracks. The Staffel lost nine crews but flew over 5,000 missions.

This is my vote for when we get the He-111 that we have a special ground attack version. Oh, The Possibilities!

I would say your most likely right. Now with the new ord possibility's how ever?? I give it a very very long shot at least. If this version was to appear in the game I think the hanger queen label might disappear for the HE111.

and were the cannon angled down at all? I wouldnt want to dip the nose for a shot at 20m AGL...

If it was indeed, "rare" as you stated, it won't be showing up in Aces High any time soon.

Oh, the HO-threads that would be started....

Can't be any worse than the Bf110 threads. since they have like 6 20mm's or like 4 20mm's and 2 30mm's.

He didn't say the plane was rare, but the photo. This makes me excited about the He-111.  And it should be the new 110, since its 1 more  :D

I just can't seem to rattle anyone's cage these days. :(

Dearest Bronk,

I have become deficient in your ways. Teach me again the ways of light and truth. And in return, I will shine brightly in the eyes of all pilots that they may never see your 20MMs blazing at 12'o clock.

Amen.

OMG, why does everyone say, "well, we have 6-10 planes in this roll as opposed to the many fighters we have. I'd call it good...."

Why don't you walk over to their side of the argument to find out?
Title: Re: He-111 Train Buster
Post by: Nemisis on September 19, 2009, 03:11:44 PM
Because I know that the amount of good fighters outnumbers that of attackers similar to the B25H, or A20G, or the 110.

Then why bother asking if you don't really care to find out?
Title: Re: He-111 Train Buster
Post by: Nemisis on September 19, 2009, 03:35:35 PM
(sighs) I DO care to find out only I don't see any conviently placed "swich sides in argument" button poping up, and no one seems willing to tell me why they want fighters to greatly outnumber the amount of good attackers.

Umm...the P47 did do 'attack' work (A2G) and I highly doubt the Mossie was just a fighter.

B25H(/C?), A20G, Bf110, Il-2, P-47D-40/N, Typhoon, Tempest, Mossi, P-38, Fw190A5/A8, Fw190F, F4U IC, and
F4U ID.
Those are the planes I take attacking. Others my have different lists, or very similar lists.

P-51D, P47D-40/N, Fw190A8, Fw190D, C205, P-38, P-39, N1K2, F6F, La-7, Bf109G6, Bf109G14, Bf109K4, Yak9U, Spit14, Spit16, Seafire II, Typhoon, Ki-84, Ki-61, A6M5b, F4U IC, and F4U ID.

Those are the fighters I mostly use. I know some are on both list and NOT counting those bombers are 6, and fighter are 18. I  know some of you will use other planes as attackers, and others as fighter, but this is all just personal and what I would consider an attacker.

So what is your overall point? Why do we need a dedicated attack plane when there were multi role aircraft that did both? When I was active if my CO said "up heavy" I'd take a 234 automatically. More ord than most fighters, could take out 3 tanks or a VH, something that most fighters (ex Jug,Mossie) can't do (because they only have 2 bombs)

My point is that true, good attackers are somewhat limited. I would consider those the B25H, Bf110, Mossie, and the P-47. It seems to me that you can have strafiing power, or bombload over 2000lbs. Yes they are multi porpouse planes, but only a few are really great at it. A lot of planes can carry bombs, but it doesn't make them good attack planes. It seems like this would be a good addition. I'm not saying we need it first and foremost, but once we get updates for some planes and fill out some gaps in the plane set, then it's the top 10 (for me anyway).

Give me some reasons why we SHOULDN'T have it.

I had no denying of the fact that we should have it, I was just wondering why you wanted a dedicated attack plane for whatever reason.
Any plane can be multi purpose, hell, I can kill a VH or 3 GVs and kill 4-5 cons (a2a) in a single sortie with a 234, just need to learn the weakness and strengths of each plane.

You CAN, but it doesn't mean thats what something is FOR. Know what I mean? I know we have vehicles being used in ways that scuttle the doctrine from 1944, but still, an F4F CAN jabo, but that doesn't mean its good at it.

Any plane can do any role for the most part...sure the 234 wasnt made to dogfight, but it works exceptionally well once you get the hang of it (ask any of my victims :) )
But yes I know what you mean.

Damn spikes. It seems like your crouched over your computer, mouse hovering over the spot where the blue "new" button appears next to a thread, with your finger poised to click the mouse.

Theres more fighters than attack aircraft because, well, does it really need an explanation.
