Title: If you could have your own Biz jet...
Post by: flight17 on September 27, 2009, 05:30:03 PM
If you could own your own business jet, what would it be?

I would have both
*Embraer Legacy 600
*Boeing BBJ2

Why those two?  They don't make much sense together.

B-1B, sure it's only a 4 seater but you can take loads of luggage.

     Canadair Global Express.
1) Lots of room for pax and baggage

2) Long Range

3) Don't need airstairs or GPUs

4)  Easy to find spares anywhere I'd like to go  :aok

Can't think of any business jet offhand that needs either.

I'll bite...

Why those two?  They don't make much sense together.
ya i guess it would have made sense to put and why... and to do it myself... realised that after i posted and was away from the computer...

the Legacy 600 because ive always liked the ERJ's which it is based off of and i think its a very elligant and sexy looking plane. a sort of weird thing is that it has a dual front wheel. something about a single wheel at front like a Lear just doesnt look right to me lol. It would be my normal plane for use

the BBJ2 because the 737 is my favorite commerical plane ever specifically the -800, which the BBJ2 is based off of. It has a good range which would put me into reach of almost anywhere i would want to go. Its a large sized plane so i would also be able to "show" it off, though really you "show off" any business jet if you have one.

now if i was a billionaire, i would also get a 747-8I VIP. with that, when i say, mine is longer than ours, its true twice! lol but really the 747 is also elligant and sexy and is the queen of the skies, unlike that ugly, whalebus 380.

I would also be one of the pilots, and these planes i would like flying...

Leerjet 85 or a Cessna Citation Mustang. ;)

So you're not sure if you want to take everyone and all their stuff or nobody and none of their things?  If the 85 is half of what I expect it to be it'll be a hell of an airplane.

Gulfstream 550 for when I need to get wherever I need to go out of the CONUS.
Learjet 45XR for my <2000nm trips.  8 pax, full seats, full tanks, 10 golf bags and 10 overnight bags with room to spare.
Phenom 300 because I think it looks great.
F5 Tiger II for time critical missions.

If I had to pick one:
Dassault Falcon 7X.  I'd get the type, fly it for a hundred hours and sell it.  With that money I'd buy a set of matching Lear 45s, a P-51 Mustang, an F4U-4 Corsair and still have money left over to operate all of them.

I'd consult with Golfer and arrive at a "happy medium" after having him help locate a good shop around me to get classes from.    :rock

TU-95. Intercontinental range. Proven airframe. Lotta cheap spares. Pretty much a giant diddly you to noise abatement.

Otherwise I'd swing a PC-12 for bushing and a Grumman Goose for lake water

Cessna Colombia...

When this jet hits the market there will be no substitute.  ;)

Haven't dealt with many Lears or 500 series Cessnas or Be400s then I guess.

I think you'll find that he's going to say they don't need a GPU but rather they help with their operation.  While you can have your crew do a battery start as you climb on board your sweltering airplane for my money and comfort if for some reason I don't have an APU my choice would be a freon AC system and a GPU would be standard.

If a GPU is not available it's not uncommon to see Citation 650's and other airplanes crank an engine which burns only marginally more fuel at idle than an APU would (200lbs or so per hour) to run their air conditioning.  As an owner I would highly encourage mandatory usage of a GPU for a non APU equipped airplane as many operators already do.

That said unless something has changed in the times since I last saw it I can think of one current production business jet that does in fact require airstairs to use.  I'm sure there will be an option in the future but my first hand look-see in 2008 revealed no air stair on the Embraer Lineage.   A purpose built business jet based on the Embraer 190 airframe.

It's close (turboprop) and you'd sure as hell stop traffic on the tarmac.    :rofl   "Excuse me sir, could you back up a few more feet?   These don't turn like they used too."

The Lineage is available with built in airstairs.

That can't be accessed or deployed from the outside of the airplane.  Quite a lot of good they do you if you ever park the airplane.  The only airstairs offered at present are the same ones offered as an option on the airliner versions which only deploy from the inside.  You'll need a boost to get up into the baggage compartment and into the cabin to deploy the airstairs.  The airliners don't have access to the baggage compartments from the cabin so that's a Lineage-only feature.  Since having your flight crew climb through the baggage isn't exactly what those with the coin to roll in a Lineage want to have happen FBO stairs have become what I'd define as necessary.

I haven't operated the Lineage airstairs, but I would be very surprised to hear there wasn't a way to operate the stairs from the outside.  I am familiar with (and have operated) more than a few airliner airstairs, and never ran into one yet that couldn't be operated from the outside.

You'll be very surprised then.  The Lineage stairs cannot be operated from the outside.

Well if money is no object I think I'd go out to the boneyard, get a C-141 and have it rebuilt. Convert the front half into a nice plush cabin and leave the rear in the original cargo configuration so I can take my own vehicle with me on trips. Rentals are such a pain.

This is a worthless question without a max price tag. Even the space shuttle can be made in a business jet.

Im waiting for this to come out. If it reaches specs, I can be the States in under 10 hours with 2 stops for fuel and customs. ( Currently the direct flight takes 18 hours). Or just 6 to Hawaii
