Title: Sketchworks 2010 Soundpack
Post by: AKDogg on September 30, 2009, 10:21:52 PM
Here it is.  The Latest and greatest of Sketchworks soundpacks.  Brewster and I16 were added.  Reworked all the guns sounds and there Rate of Fire to match actual real life data.  Reworked some engine sounds.  Added the whistling death wind sound to the corsairs.  Fixed some explosion sounds.  Reworked the GV engine, track and tire sounds (Lowered there sounds to a moderate level).  Some other fixes/changes but can't remember them all.

Enjoy. :aok :salute :rock

Right on Dogg.  Feel free to use my stickied thread any time ya want.  We could share it.  That way it might be easier for people to find your pack as time goes on and other regular threads are added and push it down. :salute

TY guys.  :aok :salute The I-16's 7.62mm guns shoot at 1800rpm.  Thats equates to about 30 rounds per sec.  That is fast. :O.  I went through all the guns for every plane and set the ROF to what that plane had historicly.  Took alot of time on this pack to get almost everything right.  I like quality. :aok

Ty for the help.  BTW, only thing I changed since the beta version was the wind sound for the corsair's, changed the typhie engine sound back to orig but have the other 1 in there too as eng3, and last but not least the corsair engines I tweak the sound a touch.  If you want to DL the whole back again, that fine, otherwise pm me and I will send u the individual files.

Ok guys, I updated the pack with the new p47M and I boosted the damage and hit sounds.  The link is still the same for the whole sound pack.

Here is just the P47M, damage and hit sounds files.  When u download the files, stick the P47M folder into the sounds folder.  All the rest of the files, paste into the sounds folder.  It will ask to copy over.  click yes.

Download the file to your desktop.  Once its finished downloading, extract (unzip) the file to a folder on your desktop.  Look in that folder after u extracted it and see if your have a folder called sounds.  Open that sounds folder and makesure there are other folders there with the plane names that are in the game.  If they are there then you downloaded and extracted the files correctly.  Now go back to the the folder that displays only the sounds folder and right click and hit copy on that sounds folder.  The go to c:\hitectcreations\aceshigh folder and look for a sounds folder.  When u locate that folder right click and click rename.  Rename that folder to soundsbak or what ever you want to name it.  After u do that, right click anywhere withing the Aceshigh folder and click paste.  The new sounds folder should be there now with the name of it being sounds.

All should be good then.

Its the same link as posted here and yes its the lawtest that I have released.  The only sounds not in it are the new shermans which all u have to do is copy the firefly folder and rename them appropiately.

M4A375 is the folder name for 75mm Sherman

M4A376 is the folder name for 76mm Sherman

Download the soundpack.  Unzip the zip file to your desktop.  Go to c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High folder.  You should see a sounds folder there.  Rename that folder to baksounds (anything other then sounds).  Then copy and paste the sounds folder you have on your destop to c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High.

Once u do that, go into that sounds folder and makesure there is folders of the planes: ie F4u1.  If its like that, u are rdy to go.  If you have a sounds folder within the sounds folder, then u need to cut and paste the 2nd sounds folder to c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High.  It will ask to copy over and say yes.

Is there a way to adjust volume in your individual .wav files without affecting all files in a folder.? Let's say I'm in my A6m5 folder, if I adjust the volume slider of the engine start .wav file it seems the volume in all other .wav files (gear, flaps, etc.) changes also. If we could adjust volume for each individual .wav file it would seem this would be a solution to the issues with new sound system and no longer being able to adjust volume for individual sounds. Is this possible with your current sound pack?
Title: Re: Sketchworks 2010 Soundpack
Post by: AKDogg on July 23, 2010, 10:20:42 AM
Its possible only by way of editing the sound files.  I will go through everything once they get this update fixed correctly or they say, this is the way it is for sure.  I won't do this till they say so because it is a very time consuming process.  We talking about a 1000 sounds that will have to be fixed or at least looked at.
Title: Re: Sketchworks 2010 Soundpack
Post by: vafiii on July 23, 2010, 12:16:13 PM
So, I'm correct? The volume for individual .wav files cannot be adjusted without affecting volume all .wav files? I'm just curious, why is this?
Title: Re: Sketchworks 2010 Soundpack
Post by: AKDogg on July 23, 2010, 01:24:44 PM
yes and no.  Each wave file can be adjusted by editing the file itself.  U can no longer adjust it within the game.

Olds, I appreciate the compliments but u shouldn't downgrade other peoples work.  Like others have said, we all work hard at these packs.  Some of us have spent months if not yrs on creating them.  Some of us have even paid money to get some of the sounds for others to enjoy and haven't asked for a cent of it back.  Just keep that in mind.  <S>

Or you could mix the sounds up to make it more interesting.  Right now I have twin booms B-29 sounds, AKDogg's sound pack for most of the planes and ranger's sound pack for the GV.  I'm still working on trying to get the blend just right for my taste but it still sounds better than the default sounds  ;)

You've never used custom sounds before?

If you don't already have custom sounds that you want to save, just delete your sounds folder and put the Sketchwork's in its place.

What I do is pick a plane I want to focus on and then listen to all the engine/flaps/gear/gun sounds from every sound pack and put the ones I like into that plane's sound folder. Just look at one of the sound packs to find the right folder names for the right planes. The sounds outside any plane/vehicle folder apply universally unless the plane you're in overrides them with its own sounds. Example: you want to make all 50cal guns use file A except plane B, which you want to use file C.  File A goes right into the sounds folder, C goes into sounds/plane B.

Hope that explains it well.

Hey Dogg  <S>

I have an earlier version of your "packs" (around August of 2008 or 2009 or so..) and I'm wondering where the   "Misc & Extras's went....

I do have your 2010 DL, but went looking for the Misc & Extras folder.

All the check 6's (Check6little= Favorite), Chute sounds, Troop drops, etc..

Mind you,  I still have ALL of those sounds, but a few of  my Squaddies are looking for them.....

Ideas...?

Keep up the  great work  !

So I have a general question about functionality of AH sounds and sound pacs...maybe someone can help. The native AH game sounds do not appear to be in the "sounds" folder. When I download the game, I have a folder that has one text file that says "wiped" or "cleaned" or some such thing. So here are my questions:

1. Can I assume that the native sounds for the game are coded somewhere else and that when the game is loaded each time the software looks for a sound folder and replaces appropriately named sound files?

2. Therefore, can I also assume that if no file for a particular game sound exists the game will load its default sound instead, regardless of any previously loaded "soundpac" sound file?

I suppose I could try testing but assume you guys know the answer. I know you can mix and match sounds from different pacs and obviously source your own sounds. My interest is wondering if I can mix and matchsound pacs with AH game sounds, and maybe find some of my own since all sound pacs seem to be either incomplete, in progress, and because sound is subjective and I actually like some of the ah sounds better than what I'm hearing.

DEEPER QUESTION:
Also, does anyone particularly understand how the game loops sounds? Is there a FAQ or other document detailing game sounds? In other words, you pull a trigger for a burst of 6 x .50 cals (actually you'd have to pull primary and secondary triggers to get all six guns blazing) so does the game layer and loop a single .50 cal shot sound file? Will it auto edit the sound to remove space and thereby does the game control the frequency of the repetition or will space or a rest, or silence in the sound file slow the fire rate?

I agree with some who have expressed that sound pac guns sound like a gattling gun. But at the same time, I acknowledge that 6 .50's firing simultaneusly would have a fast rate of fire since I don't think these guns could be synchronized because they have mechanically adjusted fire rates. I don't think they staggered the solonoids that fired them...just pull trigger and let rip. That increased rate of fire caused by the inherent randomization is what made them deadly. Have to see if there is any audio on old gun camera footage (probably not) or maybe some expert or vet could tell us. I will say this, the sound of guns (or any game sound other than radio chatter in a cockpit should be muffled and not echoe or have a large report. My challenge with some of the explosions and gun sounds in the sound pacs is it's as if they were exploded on a sound stage and you're listening from a safe distance but with perfect clarity. Not realistic. If you're in the air flying at 200-400mph...with engine noise etc...you will here a muted compressed explosion if you hear anything. Hearing enemy gunfire coming at you from outside the cockpit is ridiculous (though helpful to evade a hit). Hearing the "plink" of the shell on your fuselage is realistic or the explosion of your own fuel tank. But some of this stuff in the sound pacs seems to ignore reality. IMO
