well, i've gotten beyond speechless concerning the stupidity of the dood in the original video......but seeing as i don't want a vacation from here, i cannot put it on this forum.
suffice it to say, that i sincerely think the dood deserved serious bodily harm.

To date, the only thing in the universe more common than hydrogen, is stupidity.

Yep, Darwin was right on the spot. New species:
Superfamily: Hominoidea
Family: Hominidae
Subfamily: Homininae
Tribe: Hominini
Genus: Homo
Species: H. sapiens
Subspecies: H. cuddlinghunk. sapiens

My comment removed because it's just plain ugly.
You're right Strip. This guy should have known better. I can't imagine being him now, but I can imagine being a parent of a kid he's killed.

SEE.....
i look at that the other way. i can imagine how incredibly ungodly horrible and suicidal i'd feel had i been the one stupid enough to kill those people, and kids.
on the other hand, although i'm not a parent, i AM a stepdad, and an uncle.......and i cannot possibly imagine the feeling of losing a son or daughter.
that being said, from the looks of the ferris wheel in the backround, it looks like it was at a fair of sorts, and that he was hired to do a "show pass" or two.
still so far beyond stupid though..............
-
He was hired to make exhibition burnouts with not a single barricade in sight. I have watched people get runover, hit, or had debris hit them from a burnout. You have wheel speeds in excess of 150 mph on a greasy city street. Those cars have been known to crash on a well prepped racetrack!

As someone whose been behind the wheel in moments like that I can attest the drivers version was a bit more "colorful".

yup thats outrageous, six people die and they scapegoat the driver. no one from the charity who hosted the event or the council that rubberstamped the safety permits gets indicted.

well....ya.......he's putting out close to 8,000 horsepower.
even on a dragstrip, those cars cannot hook up without prepping the starting line. even then, if you've ever noticed, the slicks are spinning on the initial launch.
now...there are other people at fault here too. there's the people dumb enough to stand within such a close distance of a car capable of over 250 mph. there's the people running the fair. there's the people that gave em the permits.(they had to know there was going to be a race car). there's even the local police dept, seeing as they're usually who's hired to provide security at these fairs.
every year, they hold a carshow at the flying w airport. they usually have at least one drag race car run. but....they keep people WELL clear. the driver uses the runway(close to 4600 ft long). no one is allowed past the taxiway(to the best of my knowledge). and obviously, the airport is closed for this event.

Actually that car is closer to 3000 hp and capable of 6.3s@230 mph in the quarter mile.
I have noticed spinning before from inside the car....
:D
On the way to a mid 8 second pass at 155 mph in a small block dragster.

coolness!!
i hate racing against you guys in my camaro. it's so friggin hard to judge what yas are actually doing.
if i ever get the money to get her back on the track with the new engine, i'm hoping for high 8's, low 9's.
she ran 9.9's with the 454. she has a 540 now. :D :devil(we REALLY need a drooly icon)
oo...and my error.,...i thought that was a full on funny car...... :D :aok

I love driving a dragster, its so easy to judge the finish line, put .011 at the strip against a door car last week.
Only bad parts, hardly no burnout and the thing drives itself, point N go. This from a big block chevy equipped 5.90/9.40 second door car with 99" wheel base, now that was squirrelly!
Sounds like you have a sweet ride, love the Camaro body, hate to work on them tho...

see......
we never EVER worked on that car at the track. we took what we got in our time runs. we used to get fairly amused, watching guys, wrenching like mad to make their car run a 10.0, "because it did last week". they seemed to forget that the density altititude was higher this week, than last. or that it was more humid. or any other number of factors.
we spend our days working on cars, we go there to relax, have fun, and chill out. we'd take the trunk lid off to fill the fuel cell, or charge the battery. but as for the engine? everythign was checked before we loaded her up on the trailer.
you'd be kinda surprised at how many people were wasting a LOT of effort being pissed at us, because we didn't work on the car....and we could put it within a couple thousandths of our dial at will.
this is the camaro i'm talking about.

Ahhh....nice car, love the wheelie......
I drove a low ten second 69 Chevelle when I was 15, first launch had time to say "Holy Crap" before the front wheels touched down.
:x
I agree, working on cars at the track is a pain in the butt and not a good way to win rounds. I was more speaking from changing things like spark plugs on a Gen 4 Camaro in the shop. Arguably my favorite body style but any work on the motor, at home or the track, is an exercise in patients. We are spoiled now, I roll up a stool to change the plugs and set the valves.
Here is our car...

Sorry about quality, this is from a cell phone I think. Other than the living racing is about the only thing that holds my interest over the years. Those Borla's make the car so quiet, you cant hear it running from 100 feet away.

bich!! i'm jealous!! :aok
and ya...the very first time i drove that camaro, i kinda "tunnel visioned". never saw the shift light. i white knuckled the wheel, pulled the shifter twice, and was sweating my arse off when i got back to the pits. she only ran a mid 11 on that first pass, and admittedly scared the poop outta me.
then the fun started. :D
and skuzzy...can we PULEEZE have a drolly icon?

At 15 I think I was too young to know better....after the first full 1/4 pass I came back and said, "I want to go faster." Typical pass would launch at 4400 rpm, shift before the wheels hit terra firma at 7200, get the car centered in the groove, shift again, and start looking for the other guy. First pass in the dragster was interesting, shifted automatically as it drove thru the 330' and started pulling hard. After the 1/8 mile I started to evaluate what was going on, it was kinda surreal. My only thoughts were, "The wind is loud." and "That engine sure is quiet." as I went through the finish line at 155 mph.
:lol
Had a scary-funny moment at a local 1/8 mile track, with a 3/16 mile shutdown. An 1/8th to go and 3/16th of a mile to stop, with a 30 foot berm at the end of the track. Went thru the finish line and the dragster (hard-tail) started bouncing, bad. Go for the chute as the car starts wheel hopping at 125mph, as in rear tires off the ground. I never felt the chute deploy and got the car stopped, that berm looked a few feet taller as I was willing the car to stop. The really funny part, jump out to wrap the chute up and it was still in the pack! I take my helmet off and the damn thing falls to the ground! I had a word with the guy who packed the chute, it wasn't friendly and didnt have to go far to cuss the guy out.
:rofl

ya,......it's actually amazing how low we can launch these things.
we had a 4500 rpm chip in the 2 step, which really limited us to about 4100 rpm. we had noticed that these chips seem to start their thing around 400 to 500 rpm below their labeled rating.
so, my typical run, would be hit the bleach box, "burp" the throttle, and pull out of the water. set the linelocks, 1st gear, run her up to about 5500 rpm, shift to 2nd, and by 4000 rpm, i could feel the tires grabbing, so i'd release the lock, let her roll forward, and when i did this right, i was only a couple feet from staging.
back to 1st gear, and do a couple throttle hops, to be sure the tires are hot enough, then pre-stage and wait to see the other guys pre-stage light come on. as soon as it did, he dissappeared, and i staged(i always liked to stage first), and VERY shallow, then on the transbrake.
we ran a delay box, which was already set before i got into the bleach box. if i was giving the headstart, i set it up for a double hit, if i was taking it, i set it for single(obviously). so, both cars staged, transbrake set, and at the flicker of anythign yellow, i'm off, and throttle firewalled. transbrake lets go, she launches like you saw in the picture(deadly consistantly too). the front never just "dropped", but rather "settled" and i could feel a little wiggle in the wheel. that's about when the shift light came on, and i hit 2nd, look around a little, see that everything "looks right" for how she sounds and feels. pull 3rd, another look around, and then look for the guy i'm running down(if i took headstart, i only checked landmarks). if i;m running you down, i pull up on ya, and lift, then work the throttle to maintain about 1/2 a fender on ya.
all of my shifts were at 6400 rpm. never had a need to wind her any higher. she'd be flickering the shift light going through the traps.
it's a fun car, and is straight as an arrow. rarely ever had to really steer her, although i did kinda "drive around" a trail i could see from the schmuck that blew his rear, and coasted the entire length of the track.

It ruined Troy's life, but much of it was his fault, although he meant well. It also completely destroyed Larry's life, and his charity, which did a great deal for children, for many years, Larry lost everything he loved already, and he is still being sued.

how long ago did that happen?
not meaning to sound crass about it, but my car's not nearly as capable as that one looked...and i'd never do that.........

The incident in Selmer Tennessee with Troy Critchley's Pro Mod car (Pro Mod should be called Pro Stupid, you need to be brain dead to own one or drive one) where he killed 6 people after losing control during a burnout in a parade happened 3-4 years ago, I guess.
