Title: Join the 91st "Ragged Irregulars"
Post by: thndregg on October 08, 2009, 08:28:19 AM: We are modeled after the real-life 91st Bomb Group (H), "The Ragged Irregulars", (or "Wray's Ragged Irregulars"), based out of Bassingbourn, England during WW2. We love the B17, and what it represents in history as well as Aces High as a true workhorse of the heavy bomber line-up. Such famous names of ships from that time, such as "Nine-O-Nine", "Out-House Mouse", "Shoo Shoo-Shoo, Baby", "Little Miss Mischief", "Pistol Packin' Mama", and many, many others- some still flying, others lost forever.

Although it takes patience to enjoy this aspect of Aces High, it still comes with plenty of intense action high in the sky over enemy territory. Put yourself in the bombardier's seat, and get that bombsight set up while enemy fighters are coming in at you from all sorts of angles, man the guns, keep your ships on course, drop your bombs, and get the hell out, bringing as many bomber boys home as you can!(http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9761/b171902.jpg)(http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/8484/b171904.jpg)

We're looking for folks, preferably 18 and over that have the patience to enjoy this aspect of gameplay that HTC has created so well. Currently we stand at 13 members strong. Our website, www.91stbombgroup.net, is maintained by Ciaphas.

Post by: thndregg on October 21, 2009, 08:09:29 AM: As always, we are still recruiting. We're doing a little tentative rearranging due to a squad member's absence. We are still looking for patient pilots, 18 and up, who love the B17 Flying Fortress and the realistic roll she carries in WW2 and Aces High. Our squad night is Saturday, 7pm (Mountain Daylight Time). Our vox is Bishop 191. Our website is www.91stbombgroup.net. Our missions typically take us from 15K on up to 30K at times, such as it was back in WW2. We conduct once-per-month training nights to improve on various aspects of level-bombing, gunnery, and other roles outside of our main scope.

We're looking for folks who have time to do this and enjoy it. Even though it does not happen right off the bat, we have had lots of action in the stratosphere. The "bad guys", have come up and made it very challenging and fun for us and fighter escort groups such as the 82nd's very proffessional band of P38 pilots.

If you are an "instant-action" sort, this is probably not for you. Long bomber/escort flights take an extra amount of discipline and patience. (Don't say I didn't warn you.)

What is worth taking the time to enjoy is the realism, immersion, interaction (& smart-a** humor) and the eventual action that makes it all fun. :)

We are a relaxed and fun loving group, but we strive for teamwork, patience, and discipline where it counts. Our core aircraft is the B17 Flying Fortress in true 91st Bomb Group colors. (Just wish we had more skins to add to the three in the game. ;)) Our vox is Bishop 191.

We seemed to hit a growth spurt over this weekend. We've just recruited four more members.

We just wrapped up a 29,000ft trip to and from Rooks strat target. Overall it was surreal as we were expecting a typical "orbital" Rook intercept, but resistance was light. Overall, targets were hit. Escorts continued to maintain cover to and from target area. <S> to all involved, including Rooks who intercepted.

Anyone with screenies or film is encouraged to post in the "Films & Screenshots" section.

If anyone 18 and up is interested and patient enough to enjoy this aspect of Aces High, check us out. <S>

The comradery is great, the coordination between bomber and fighter groups is necessary and a lot of fun, and the action is intense. If you have the patience to enjoy a full realm of excitement this style of gameplay brings, stop by on Bishop vox 191 and roll with us for a few. We prefer those 18 and older. Our squad night is Saturday, 7pm (MST) with every third Saturday of each month being our training night.

This bomb group requires patience and discipline (but not at the exclusion of fun) to function well. We still cut loose and do some crazy stuff, but when it comes to what we specialize in with the B17, we do our best to be accurate.

Our squad night is Saturday, 7pm Mountain Time. We hold training night once a month. Our vox is Bishop 191.

On my 2nd run, i noticed a darbar 2-3 sectors away, It was a 91st Mission, that flattend all the strats. Great "teamwork" to bomb the rooks City+Strat. <S>

Your a kid, accept it and enjoy it - it is not a bad thing.

You have obviously become pretty proficient in AH - but no one expects you to know everything, no one is judging you and you don't have to compete with anyone in this game except yourself. Concentrate more on having fun.

Listen more than you talk. And when you do talk (or post) think carefully about what you want to say - once it is out there you can't take it back and what you say or write is a reflection on you, your intelligence and your character. Quick rule of thumb - better to keep your mouth shut and thought a fool than opening it and confirming that you are.

Ask questions (but not when you already know the answer) and don't argue with the answers, just take it all in and sort out what you need.

If you want to talk to me about why you think I am mad at you, just PM me next time you see me online and ask if we can talk (sending me a PM asking me "what the h%ll my problem is" does not get you points in my book). I will be more than happy to talk to you if you are willing to listen.

Common courtesy and respect go a long way - what you pulled in the DA Saturday night showed neither.

I knew I had good hits on at least five ships and when heading home I got the message on Hap.

I wasn't going to make the field so to I tried the road in the town. Blacked out with gear down and bounced up into a church...

Good fun. You guys add alot, and alot more like it is needed.

Our only stipulations are that you are 18 and older, and that you have patience for the nature of what the 91st Bomb Group is about. Our missions are as immersive as it gets in Aces High. Be sure you have what it takes if you really want to join up. :salute

Qwest Communications is screwing with me- the second time in a month-, and three of my family's other households in the rural sticks of extreme eastern Oregon. Getting good when the local technician (an old hand of the local telephone company before Qwest bullied in) can't make any headway on it.

We have verified that it is NOT our PC's, nor anything else on our ends. There are absolutely no other high speed land line options here. We are patiently persuing some remaining options, the last of which I may have to end my AH account due to Qwest's ineptness. They provide acceptable service to major population centers, but for country bumkins like us, we are at the bottom of the pile.

If you want any info on the 91st, you can still contact me here or at our bomb group's forum. But, Hawkeri & TTflier will be the ones to talk to in-game.

Hope to be back in action soon.

Post by: Jayhawk on July 24, 2010, 11:31:19 AM: My personal opinion, I always love new eye candy. There is a whole new challenge of seeing targets from high altitude though. I've got a pretty high end system but can hardly see things like ord bunkers from high alt. I'm sure eventually we will learn where they are at and still be able to drop them pretty accurately. I don't think there is any need to panic about the downfall of the game, yet, not until we give this time to settle out. I laugh at some people's posts only hours after the update calling for changes to make capturing town easier. It's very complex now but soon people will know where every building is and will make sure to check them (remember the tiny churches?).

Hopefully as people and squads develop new strategies for capturing fields, squads like the 91st will play a pivotal role. Whether that be dropping hangers at a field because the ack is crazy and they won't be able to get a cap of field; or carpet bombing town so fighters can just clean up the outskirts of town.

My fear is that people will slowly stop caring about base-takes, because they are so difficult. The game will turn into a couple fur-balls across the map. The 91st won't serve much purpose then, and the fur-ball mentality won't bring anyone up to challenge our runs (no fun for us). Bombing fields will just "kill the fight" and bring on the whines of an entire country (kind of fun for us...). Strat has not been a viable bomber target since the big cities anyway. Will bombers run out of things to bomb? Even if we do hit town, will we get enough support to come in and clean up? I think base-capturing is still going to happen, but more often during the wee hours of the morning when a few guys in tanks get no resistance. No plane is going to carry enough ammo to do significant damage to town, but a tank with a few boxes of supplies and plenty of time will have no problem.

But, I know HiTech is aware that strategic goals like capturing a base is what spurs on combat. So I have faith that this system will eventually pan out and we will find our place. I'm just not sure what that place is yet.

Flayed and the local tech tried to get through to Qwest it was their hardware and not anything in all four of our households. It finally took me to be not quite as nice about it to make any headway.

I love Ping Plotter. :aok I was very close to contacting the P.U.C. as a next step.

Anyway, it'll be that much easier to contact me if you're interested in flying with us. I plan to be playing Friday night and this weekend most definitely (though I'll be watching Ping Plotter like a hawk).

I filed a complaint with this state's P.U.C. because this has been an ongoing issue ever since June with no permanent fix implimented. They do acknowledge that one of their DSLAM's for this area is malfunctioning, but it seems to me Qwest is "duct taping" it rather than replacing it, or we would not be seeing repeated outtages on Ping Plotter like we have now.

Meanwhile, I've got work on the farm to do. See y'all whenever. :rolleyes:

When I was in the service I was a Crew Chief on a Kc-135A,so when I went to this airshow (Manchester N.H.) I was wearing my 5th O.M.S. hat.The Nine-o-nine's Crew Chief saw my hat while I was walking by and asked for a little help.Turns out he had been a crew chief on a B-52 H. If we had been stationed at the same base we would have been in the same squadron. Anyways,I helped him take off the cowling on his # 3 engine. He was having trouble with one of the spark plugs fowling up.Turns out the mixture control was a little loose,so when he leaned it out ,it wasn't opening all the way,so the plug was fowling up. What I came away with is the old saying "The more things change,the more they stay the same." Many of the same type of parts on my aircraft are virtually identical to the parts used back then. The walk around oxygen bottles where identical to the bottles on my aircraft,built in 1958. Zinc chromate is still used as a primer, some of the cowling fasteners where almost exactly the same as used on my aircraft ,the circuit breakers where identical, hydraulic lines and wires are color coded and identified by the same system. Black boxes look about the same, and the read putty like sealing material around the windows is the same thing. He would have taken me up,but the next flight after a fly by,They where going home, so I couldn't go up.what a blast,there's nothing like hearing those old radial engines starting up.

One thing that this group does better than any other group in the game is solicit the support of other squadrons to fly escort for us. It is simply astounding the level of assistence we get from other groups willing to block out time in their schedules and provide some of the finest escort flying I have ever seen.

My hat is off to Thunder for making that happen...and to all members of of those fighter squadrons for doing what you do...

There is simply nothing else like a 91'st squad night in the game today...the unique level of cooperation is unparalleled..

That's worth a second :salute to all involved.

It was mentioned this evening by some that custom clips were not seamlessly and durably incorporated to the game...

This is how it works: each arena/terrain has its own custom index for clip maps...by retaining the default file names such as lfield.bmp...that granularity is over ridden and you will always have your 91'st clip maps if/when you retain the default file names...by leveraging the inherent "default.lst" file ...

I will work on the Port and VBase tomorrow...

An Me-262 comes into the 91st as they were trying to land. He picked off two bombers and claimed his third from ttflier, luckily ttflier managed to inflict some major damage to him, he retreated north leaking fuel and oil. I quickly nixed my 51 and lifted from a more Northern field in my own 262. I flew directly to where I hoped he was going. Arriving at the field, I see a small dot with a black smoke trailing from it on it's short final to land.

I nosed down, with no regard for my own plane, I wasn't going to let this guy land his kills. Here I spray a burst as his plane screeches to a halt.

Unlike past events, frames will start in the evenings this time…and will start every Saturday for seven weeks
at the same time the 91'st normally holds its Squad night !!!.

You heard that right gentlemen; this will be an opportunity this squad will not have any time soon, or ever again. Imagine that...a scenario that has our virtual squadron in it occurring over 7 weeks at our normal squad time !!!

Even though their are only 9 slots for the 91'st, there are a total of 54 bomber slots; 4x9 B-17 and 2x9 B-24; and formations are enabled (pretty positive about this).

I truly hope the 91'st seizes this opportunity to expand into the Special Events Scenarios.

B-17's are rare in Scenarios…and even rarer are the late war battles over Berlin…its been 3 years since the 91'st was represented in an event.

REGISTRATION IS NOT YET OPEN..

When it is, lets be ready and fill up the 1'st Bombardment Division: BOTH the 91'st and 303'rd slots (18 pilots). There is no virtual 303'rd BG in AH...so we wont be stepping on toes.

There are 9 slots in the 91'st Group available for each frame.

This will be an epic event stretching over 7 weeks, immersing the participant in the 8'th Air Force's incredible battles over Germany.

Unlike past events, frames will start in the evenings this time…and will start every Saturday for seven weeks
at the same time the 91'st normally holds its Squad night !!!.

You heard that right gentlemen; this will be an opportunity this squad will not have any time soon, or ever again. Imagine that...a scenario that has our virtual squadron in it occurring over 7 weeks at our normal squad time !!!

Even though their are only 9 slots for the 91'st, there are a total of 54 bomber slots; 4x9 B-17 and 2x9 B-24; and formations are enabled (pretty positive about this).

I truly hope the 91'st seizes this opportunity to expand into the Special Events Scenarios.

B-17's are rare in Scenarios…and even rarer are the late war battles over Berlin…its been 3 years since the 91'st was represented in an event.

REGISTRATION IS NOT YET OPEN..

When it is, lets be ready and fill up the 1'st Bombardment Division: BOTH the 91'st and 303'rd slots (18 pilots). There is no virtual 303'rd BG in AH...so we wont be stepping on toes.

With both units secured, this will give us tremendous leverage in executing our missions: staffed with 91'st pilots, we will fly together, bomb together, and live together.

The 91'st is an amazing group of guys; lets show the event community what we are made of.

Typical off night experience with the best bombers in the game...

We all landed home safely...met the threat...and antagonized and killed the enemy...

I do believe I may be able to play regularly again - although I doubt I'll be able to consistently join up for squad events. I've so far been keeping safe - in beautiful Kabul. Living in a safehouse - and currently in a lockdown situation - but that's a whole other story I can't get into yet. Make up your own assumptions.

With that said - my internet service is pretty decent - and I'm actually managing it for folks in the rest of the safehouse's (60+ subscribers) - strictly a volunteer thing in addition to my regular job duties. Well, the guy who had this room & managed it before me left a decent desktop pc/monitor and the works - and I just received a joystick I ordered a few days ago - SO - hopefully, I'll be seeing you guys on.

I have to say - for not having played for a few months - I forgot how to do everything! I need to pritn out a cheetsheet tomorrow.

You are welcome to fly with us. We fly on Bish vox 191. We routinely do bombing misssions (as well as enjoy other aspects of AH) and everyone generally has a good time. Normally, or squad nights are on Saturdays. However, my attendance to lead missions on those nights has been extremely spotty as of late due to real life activities taking up my time. (This weekend is no exception. I have practice.)

We are a good-natured sort, and we've developed quite a few friendships with the 78th, 82nd, 125th, BOPs, and many, many others fighter groups, squads, and individuals that have escorted us "Triangle 'A'" heavies on our missions.

We ultimately are in this to have a good time. We have a few common-sense rules, and we fly, drive, & die in just about every ride there is, but at the core we are a B17 bomb group.

It seems once again, as happens every year at some point, my DSL internet is experiencing the same old problem of sporadic outtages courtesy of Centurylink (formerly Qwest) and their malfunctioning equipment at hop #3, according to my trace route. I live in a rural area, so there is no other hardwired alternative. Otherwise, I'd ditch Centurylink in a second.

We'll see what happens, if anything. :rolleyes:
