Recently I B6Pacman and the late night crew of the CJs have been causing mayhem in conducting NOE HQ runs in lancs.
If you think 110s are cool enough you have not seen a CJ lanc run.
Well anyway the most epic one was a few nights back. The CJs were running an NOE ..... and then it went Haywire. Bankie0 went one way around a mountain and myself and blades went round another. Then we come to a hill...... a biiiiiiiiiig hill. One that we have to go around..... into a dar ring.
So we hit dar no one notices its all good, smoke and gryz are in ponies riding alongside and then all of a sudden . shock horror. THE KNIGHTS ARE COMING THE OTHER WAY, so we have two HQ runs converging on the same spot with a horde of bish defenders around.
Result.... CATASTROPHE. Bankie in a panic hits a hill, blades looses his drones, My mic quits and the fighters are heavy. We miss the HQ I see cannon shells everywhere I go down I jump into one of the ponies and see ALL HELL going on. Gryz gets decapitated and smoke gets blown to pieces.
Was I upset at the faliure
hell no, WAS AWESOME
anyway anecdote over :airplane:
-
Epic failures are still epic! :rofl :aok
-
Ah, the midnight horde.

It always sucks when missions actually run into enemy airplanes

Nothing wrong with NOE's. See my post "And then the fight started."
One of the funnest fights I ever had was when I was in a Bish NOE and we ran into a Rook NOE. Both were huge! The knits had to be thinking, where did all the rooks and bish go.
If a country wants to run NOE's please do. Many many pilots look forward to busting them. It can be a very effective base grabbing method but it can be busted quite easily at times too. The absolute best way to ruin your fun is to try to control the arena and the pilots playing.
CJ's I'm glad you had fun, to me that is all that matters.
-
yawn
The object of NOE is to get to a base or target and do your deed before the enemy can defend.
If you want to start a fight, post on 200 your intentions then follow through in dar alts.
-
One of the most entertaining NOE fights I ever had was when a flight of B-24s attempted to intercept my B-17s - ended up like something out of Master and Commander as we exchanged broadsides and we lost a drone apiece before disengaging. Marvellous!
Power to your low-level elbow, sir!

We've had planned buff fights off the MA maps. Great fun.

I bet you still wtg'd yourselves on country channel anyway per usual :lol

As long as capturing bases and winning the war remains about the only goal, why would there be complaints when a squad tries to do that?
Take it up with HTC if you want a different kind of objective.

I wouldnt feed the trolls.
-
Well, you know people don't always like the way others play, not sure how to solve that.
For example: I hate getting vulched but if someone's trying to take the base, they are going to try to squash the opposition.
How do ya make everyone happy?

This is not the only goal
-
There is no way to make everyone happy at the same time, it fluxuates between getting horded and being part of the horde.

Fighting isn't the goal from what I've read. This is a win the war sim :neener:
-
I remember my first FSO flying with another squadron. We were in IL-2's running NOE in the low clouds and mist. On the way to our target we passed a large formation of JU-88's headed the other way. I bet he was thinking the same thing I was. God I hope they don't send a report of our position, and if they do I hope they can't find us in the fog.
Great night it was. Oh and yes I have run into another NOE mission in the main while conducting my own.
-
I like the claim jumpers.. They soo big.. They have a great breeding program.
A squad that big could do anything when together.. :salute

The only thing ive seen them do toghert is take a bunch of hvy jugs and bomba feild and ONLY hit the runway...sad...(half augerd) lol

That is not a goal at all. One day up and try fighting. It's what the game is all about. You might find it enjoyable
-
we passed a large formation of JU-88's headed the other way. .
And you didn't engage them? :huh
On topic... Taking down HQ only leads to less fighting and many more hours of patrolling
the skies, looking for an enemy con to engage. Hardly a "heroic" deed.
BTW your "escorts" would do well to break out from this "avoid combat at any price" mentality.
I had the pleasure of busting one of these HQ "mizzons" recently and had no trouble dispatching
the 2 ponies trying to protect the lancs. At first I felt good about surviving a 2v1 until I realized
that these guys have probably spent most of their time in AH2 avoiding combat. So many in this
game seem afraid to risk their cartoon lives. I'm no uber stick in this game but I have improved
greatly by taking chances and so can you.

People that play this game soley for the base taking aspect of it are like fat guys in speedos, they think they are sexy doing it, but fail to realize that everyone around them is laughing their ***** off. There is absolutley nothing wrong with taking bases. The squad and I like to join in sometimes to take some real estate or help some green guys take down a town when were in "fighter mode", but having that as a full time job gets boring real fast.
I can understand how rolling the map can give the new guys a sense of accomplishment, heck they are "WINNING THE WAR" for their countrymates. They organize missions to undefended targets in which one of two scenarios is always bound to happen 1) the 20 man mission gets a base with absolutley no or very little opposition, and they take the base 2) their little horde goes bust and the feild gets too hot with opposition so they start playing "wack a mole" (they being the mole) and hit bases around the map that are non defended. These are the same guys that claim that its fun because they are using tactics and "organizing" with others to play a team oriented strategy. Fact is..ITS GAMEY!!!, Think of it as if EVERYONE played the same game, how boring it would be and how POd you would be if everyone snuck around trying to roll a map.
Learning dynamics of what your flying and what your enemy is flying is a whole new aspect of the game that takes years to master, and thats the addiction that keeps most to log back in. Ive been playing for about 4 years now and just two years ago fell in love with the dogfighting aspect of this game. Im still horrible, but each and every sortie am learning something new so Im stickin with it.
-

The big squads should be embraced, they fight the good fight and are worthy of nothing but praise.
At least that is what the 80th's Fuhrer, Mensa, says.
-

We do.
We often up from bases that are under attack, is that not fighting?
Most of the time you will see us spread across the map, some attacking, some defending, some in gv's etc.
We're not entirely one dimensional.
I can see the point that when we all fly together it's a pretty gigantic horde, but it has to also be kind of fun for others to stop us, which happens regularly.
-
And you didn't engage them? :huh
In FSO you have very narrow and specific objectives. They were probably instructed to continue to objective.

Give the kid a break. He has the good humor to be the self proclaimed CO of Squeaking Death.
For reasons known only to him, he wanted to write a brief narrative on a mission to hit an HQ.
Do you raise yourself up by putting him down?
The claim jumpers are awesome!

Ruining the fight for everyone else? Get over yourself.
I guess letting buffs hit the CV would be not ruining it for the buff driver. Heck, shooting down any enemy by any means ruins the fight for him. HTC should have an ‘everybody wins’ paintball arena, with perks for participation and no score keeping.
I bet you still wtg'd yourselves on country channel anyway per usual :lol
I’ve been trying to keep it on squad channel. I concede it can be a waste of the text page.
another post about how fun it is to try and avoid a fight
Avoiding fights is a subjective cooncept. The latest fashion is to scream by in a P-47M, taking pot shots and running. Altitude monkeys, uber plane jockeys, vulchers, and many others can be accused of trying to avoid the fight.
The fighter purists out there are simply incorrect on the concept of air power. Fighters exist for the control and denial of airspace. The use of said airspace is to bomb ground targets, transport men and equipment, and observe the enemy. Fighters dominate the tactical, but are secondary to the strategic.
I spend most of my time in fighters in AH. It is where the most fun and greatest challenges lie. However, the strategic aspect of the game is what leads to the best fights.

I can make no claims to jabo proficiency. There. Feel superior now?
Allow me to finish with an old standby: Live and let live. Play and let play.

Isn't your whole post rife with what you are trying to argue against?
-
Which would be considered worse? A straight to the town NOE or 10 jabos hitting the hangers FOLLOWED by a straight to town NOE?
I personally have no problems with NOEs...lotsa kills to be had. NOEs can spur great furballs. Flying behind the NOE and popping the goon can create excellent 200 reading. I actually get more angry with having a great 4-5 minute 1v1 and have someone come and pick one plane thus ruining the 1v1.
Personally I was an original CJ member. I left when the squad became too large for my tastes. No hard feelings they have some great guys (and some tards) but all squads can have this aspect. However some of the "bashers" on this board call anything over 5 a "horde" so the message becomes lost with the ever changing definition of "horde". Oh man...I just noticed I'm in a horde squad...7 members.... :bolt:
-
Isn't your whole post rife with what you are trying to argue against?
I'm going to go with "no" on this one.
Just answering those with the air of superiority. There is a tendency on this board for certain people to get snotty with those who don't play their way. Everyone's way of enjoying the game should be tolerated, at least.

See Stang and B4Busters posts just prior to yours. Is this not the forums equivalent to a 'wtg?'
There is a core of bullies out there surrounded by a constellation of sycophants that jump on anyone who doesn't think their way.
BTW, I use big words to feel superior.

For the record I have no real opinion here, I'm just stirring the pot.

It was self deprecating humor re: our proclivity to congratulate each other incessantly.
How did you not get that?

I find the Claim Jumpers are great at providing some much needed laughter in the arenas. Case in point, in the MW arena, I stumbled upon 5 planes that were heading towards a friendly base. I engage and after a very brief engagement, down all 5 Claim Jumpers and return to base. Not a second goes by after landing, I get a PM from Cobra45 whining about my kills, think he even called me a n00b (LOL!) but refused to go to the DA with me because he was afraid he was going to 'own' me. Lucky for me, I just bought RainX for my monitor, otherwise it would have been a pain in the bellybutton cleaning the soda off after I laughed.
Thank you Claim Jumpers for being the comic relief in the MW arena, may your antics bring more laughter.

Not his point I don't think, and I agree with him.... sitting in a 5" gun on the CV and shooting at fighters engaged with other fighters just because one is too lazy scared to up a fighter.... that's lame. Possibly the only thing lamer than ack running at the first sign of a red icon is the guy sitting in the 5" gun trying to bust up a furball.
You wanna defend the CV? GREAT. I hate it when one of our guys sinks the CV anyway, as long as we're not badly outnumbered. As long as we're holding them at bay I say leave it up and let the fight rage for hours. If you wanna keep it from getting Lanc'ed, get in your 5" gun and have at it. You wanna shoot down fighters in a furball? Stop being chickencrap and GET IN A FIGHTER.
But, it's your $15, so by all means do what'cha wanna do. You'll be just super! :aok

Seriously, I'm so sick of the cries of "bullies." Grow a pair squeakies. When people chastize you it's usually for a reason. You do not have a right to not have your feelings hurt. This is a competitive game. There are winners and losers. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake.

I don't like bullies, period. Especially internet bullies. Plus, if someone didn’t advocate tolerance once in a while, all we would get is this drivel …

Well, let’s just say that I am chastising you all who think they define who is a beautiful or unique snowflake. Several of the posts quoted above are to establish a position in the primate troupe that is this forum. Honestly, I don't care which of you grooms who.
Occasionally, poor judgment gets the better of me and I try to explain my express disagreement. I know the fultility of it. I'll just move on now and sulk over my hurt feelings. Maybe question my worth as a human being ...

LOL! Alpha bully? Am I the one that forced your squadron mate (Cobra45) to send me an insulting PM after I shot him and your other fellow squadron mates down? Am I the one forced Cobra45 to repeatedly send me PMs telling me how he'd 'own' me in a 1v1 fight in the DA?
If you didn't want people to laugh at your squadron, then you shouldn't have members of your squadron send hilarious PMs after they get their tulips handed back to them on a silver platter.
Though, I must say I am glad to see that you're taking up where Cobra45 left off in game, giving us all another chance to laugh at the Claim Jumpers on the forums.

Akak isn't an alpha, he's still in the beta phase. :D You do bring up a valid point. This game is played by alpha types. It's competitive in game and here. Been that way as long as I can remember. Not likely to change. If you show any weakness, you're on the menu. The more you keep responding the more grief you'll get. You're right,it's just like a pack. You work your way up by earning others respect. Not saying it's right, it's just the way it is. I just hate to see a guy dig his own grave. :(
PS- I wouldn't groom Stang with a 10 foot pole :D

Cobra45 did what he did. He is a high school student. How old are you?
Laugh all the way to the anime convention. It is who you are.
Back to the OP and the crap it stirred, I do not understand why some silly posts warrant derisive responses. B6Pacman's silly post should not have offended anyone. No derisive posts required. Yet, there are the baboons out there that fall over each other trying to demonstrate their ability to find an emoticon.
How many threads waste bandwith on how great it is to crash a P-38 or blender this or that. Silly. Not offensive. I do not respond about the poster's intelligence or manliness.
Anyway, self affirm and validate each other all you want. All have the choice to come to the forums, within Skuzzy's rules. This will be the last troll from me.
-
So how did this thread start? A guy recounting a fun time he had on a squad mission.
Sarcastically tongue in cheek title, didn't insult anyone, even poked a little fun at the failure of the mission. Nothing offensive about it.
Ah, but others just couldn't resist the opportunity to make derisive comments about the squad.
Yep, the Claimjumpers are really the problem here.

Grow some thicker skin and get over it. Your problem is you don't see people making fun of guys posting 3 vs 1 fights win or lose. You wonder why that is? It's not lame, unlike NOE hide from a fight toolshedding.

You seem to have some issue with folks being called on callous play.
If that kid is in high school and does that sort of thing then the last thing he needs is your type of guidance. That seems to be what his problem is already.
Spin it like you want... not all promote failure.

Oh, I get it. It's okay for someone in the Claim Jumpers to send me an insulting PM after I kick their bellybutton because he's just a snot nosed little squeaker in high school but I'm an "Alpha Bully" because I laughed at him and your squadron? I guess now you know why I consider you and the rest of your squadron to be nothing more than something to laugh at.
Keep reaching for that rainbow.

Well, I wasn't there, but I would say from the description, Cobra's actions were not something I would defend, but again, what does that have to do with the original post? other than it being a convenient opportunity to publicly deride an entire squad?
At least Cobra apparently acted like a horses behind on private message.
Please like us,
We couldn't bear it if you didn't like us.

Ruf...
Obviously, you don't get the BBS. Do you, perhaps, understand "hazing"?
...and yes, your previous posts had you near crying out for respect. If not for you, then for your squaddie. Like the arenas, this is a place that requires that you earn it. You don't have to like it or agree with it. It simply is. Just be glad you weren't here prior to the "kinder, gentler" BBS of today. :D
At least Cobra apparently acted like a horses behind on private message.
...and that is, truly, the most cowardly thing he could do. BTW, you might want to pass it on to him...HTC bans folks for doing that. :salute

Nice little story in the life of a hoarde squad. Im sure people are commenting because that groups gameplay is stale and lame.

That is a point.
I was just contrasting with the public "squad denigration extravaganza"

If you'll post an outline of what kind of play you think is acceptable, I'll present it to the squad.

In general, bragging about 20 guys going noe and blowing up buildings/empty bases.....gonna get flamed every time(http://chat.anncoulter.com/phpBB3//images/smilies/151.gif)

C'mon Pacman is a good kid and a reasonable stick too. His original post was a self flaming post. Let it burn in peace.

To the claim jumpers:
Grow some thicker skin and get over it.
I seem to recall a certain time when claim jumpers hord mission was inb to ruin a great double spawn battle. I saw them leave from a nearby field
and said something like "great double spawn battle here at ###, can yall leave it alone?"
One of em replied "No we take what we want."
I then "accidentally" asked again on 200. doh! The country channel exploded with rants and accusations. I couldnt help but laugh over vox. :bolt:

In some ways they are the problem, much like the other "megasquads". Running an NOE with 20 guys gets the comments rolling quick because the only fight your promoting is one with buildings, ack, and the radar tower, none of which really fight back all that well.
MegaSquads" have built this reputation that they can take any base and will because their fun is more important than anyone else's fun. Unfortunately, the ClaimJumpers have fallin into that group, that is why a post like this one gets jumped on so much.
You asked That is a point.

While I'm sure you were being sarcastic, here's a suggestion that while could still be fun for your squad, might also be fun for the enemy you attacking.
Instead of running an NOE with 20 guys, build a real plan!
- up 3 buff groups and 2 goons from a base 1.5 sectors back from the target. For added safety/spice, have the goons up for two different bases. Grab to 12-15k, goons too.
- 10 minutes after the buff launch, launch 10 fighters, 4 heavy. 2 fighters each rondevous with goons just outside the dar circle, other hook up with buffs. All light escorts are to defend ONLY, not gang a lone enemy :D Hvys can go light if you need more defense, or hold to do clean up on GVs or missed buildings
- 5 ins after buff launch, last 5 guys up hvy in fighters. Primary target is VH and radar, then to set up a cap. CAP, not a vulch!
Same 20 guys, but now you have to work together, more of a challange. You have to make sure all you buffs make it in, at least one of your goons survive, fighters have to FIGHT, maybe even use wingman tactics to work in "elements" <--- look it up :D Your guys still have fun, still have a good chance to "capture" a base, mean while you have created a fight where the enemy can have some fun trying to defend. Leave the field ack up, and pick the edges of the ack bubble. This give the defenders a bit of space to get some air under their wings and give you a fight in return.
Sure it might be a bit harder to capture the base, heck you might even FAIL !!! but look at it this way, the game still costs $15 a month whether you capture all the bases, or loose all the bases, it's all about the fun! Sure one of the objectives is to "capture the bases and win the war", great, but lets have fun doing it. What if we had a nuke? one guys flies in, drops one bomb, and another drops troops. Whoopie we got another base !!, but wheres the fun?
The megasquads are the one who generate the hordes, who seem to force everyone to either join the horde, or avoid the horde. That style of game play while maybe fun for the megasquad ( though I would think you'd get bored doing the same mission time after time), takes away a lot of the fun other can or are trying to have. While you may get mad that someone busted your NOE on 200, others are mad you just trashed their furball, or double spawn GV battle.

I thought this thread was about noteworthy missions by the CJ's....

No, it's about someone who mistakenly brought to the boards that he had a good time playing a game.

Fugitive basically just said what I was thinking. Switch it up, do some historical planesets maybe.. not everything in uber latewar mongers. Or 4 or 5 guys in buffs drop the hangars and town at a field, and another 5 come in to cap/cleanup the base. Having 50 guys flying under radar in dweebrides just sucks. ;)

I agree completely. Horde missions are annoying and a pita. My point is the op was about someone having fun during the late hours of the night (which at times it's hard to find something to do) with 3 sets of lancs, and 2 ponies (hardly a horde) to hit the HQ. Great, I'm glad they had a good time. Did no one notice that he said the knights are coming the other way? Yet everyone is jumping on the op.
Now, I personally think HQ raids are pointless. Although, I remember being in a couple in the wee hours of the morning with the LCA. The whole time was nothing but a looong flight bs ing with other cartoon pilots.

I suppose seeing you post the squad name, then remembering the crappy gameplay ive seen from them, made me just want to speak my mind in your thread.

Actually that's not bad.
Let me study that and next time I'm on with the full horde, (not often) I'll see if I can't get the guys to put one like that together.
Thanks for the suggestion. (sarcasm off)
I'll look up the meaning of "element". As a lifelong military history buff, I wouldn't know that. (oops, back on)

Its obvious your just a diehard landgrabber, that will bomb and bail, and hoarde vulch with your oversize skwad. ;)

There are so many ways to capture a base. That's why it always amazes me to see these squads use the same 3 plans over and over. Some defend their ideas by saying things like.... "We ran an all P47 mission". And that is different from the all 110 mission, or all nik mission how?
They use strategy. To most of them that means they pick which most recently captured base is the least porked and attack the closes enemy base from there.
HTC has provided a wide variety of "toys" to use to play this game. Mix them up, fight a 2 front war, attack from the air and ground at the same time, co-ordinate strikes from different bases to hide your strength until they all join up and attack.
And by all means, no matter what you do, think about making it fun for everyone.

How about folks play the game the way they enjoy it. If folks want to use the same plane, who cares. I don't care if people want to run NOEs, in-your-face or whatever. What I do want is for people to enjoy what they are doing. Large squads don't matter to me. Just offers more targets or more interaction. Depending what side of the fence I'm on.
Disclosure: I am not a part of any squad and I haven't officially joined a mission in about 3 months and maybe only a handful in the last year.
What do I enjoy? Just winging it, heading to full herds, helping capture bases, and hurting some feelings :devil. What I find boring, bombing and gv'ing. I can't hardly get a gv across the base without thinking, jeeze this is slow. Funny thing is I use to do marathon drives.
As I said before, I am glad CJ's enjoyed themselves. I flew with them for a bit the other day and really had a good time. Some fine folks there. And no, I'm no looking for a squad. :salute
