Title: Late Night ENY
Post by: twitchy on November 11, 2009, 12:50:04 PM
Was playing about 4:30 to 5:30 Eastern Time Monday in the Blue MA, we had 32 knights on, about 27 Bish and 20 something rooks. The ENY was 27, and that's a little ridiculous. Can we get rid of the ENY after a certain time or when the numbers in the MA reach a certain point? We're talking about a difference of maybe five players, and we're getting hoarde penalties??? Not that I don't enjoy deacking with a SBD, but five players difference with that kind of ENY is a fun killing machine.

Yeah, I despise furballers and country changers, sorry kettle, we're base takers. I see you switched countries last night as soon as I started posting missions, so much for that fantasy of switching to lowest numbers eh?  :lol

But if you're complaining about ENY, then that would mean that your country had more than the others.  Therefore, if ink changed from your country, then his leaving did you a favor.

Yeah it did. We didn't miss him much, that's for sure. Bustr owned him too and then he logged with an insult on 200, so we got a good laugh out of it as well.

It's not been 5 players difference, but ~12 (which would be ~160% of Rooks numbers)  ENY is based on your country vs lowest number country.
Also, for this kind if discussions a screenshot  would be really helpful. After all I do know it can't be true at all, because I heard Knights are always outnumbered in LWB  :noid

Post by: twitchy on November 11, 2009, 01:50:21 PM
Well despite the responses from my fan club here, in all seriousness, the ENY system works fine when there's 500 players on the game, but when we're talking about a difference of five players, I think an ENY of 27 is waaaay overboard at 4:30 am.
There's got to be a better solution than limiting plane sets, I never got the whole hoarde whine thing anyway, yeah you're outnumbered sometimes, so what? Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the troops when you told them, "Well boys, we outnumber the Germans, so everybody turn in your M1's and get one of these muskets." ENY punishes teamwork, I can see it during prime time hours to suit those who just can't stand being outnumbered, but 5 players difference is a hoarde?
-Twitchy

I was going to get a screen shot of the roster lusche to post, but everybody knows how the system works so I didn't bother with it.

Also, it's about relative advantage. Absolute numbers do not tell anything, but players continue to use them to make a point that ist - "We have 5 players more and get ENY, yesterday they had 40 more and they didn't!". 5 players can mean 50% more players, 40 players can mean obly 5% more -depending on total arena numbers

I was going to get a screen shot of the roster lusche to post, but everybody knows how the system works so I didn't bother with it.

Better are screenshots of "war status", because roster doesn't tell ENY.

Either way the difference was no more than 10 players between the highest and lowest numbers. It's not so much of a problem during prime time hours because alot of players will switch or log, but late night and early morning it's a killer.

So twitchy is married to a chess piece.

I usually switch to lowest number side. I look for the fights.... so if you like farming you probably won't see much of me. I like to be low and slow in my 38.

I just post this for twitchy... since he is new. Twitch if you don't want me on your side try the DA Lake.... I never fly there.

There used to be a twitchy that flew here a long while back..... don't remember him having a chip on his shoulder.

Honestly, I don't care mashertaters, the last AH film I watched was Rod367th getting owned then crying about it for two hours, and a missing man film for a fallen Pig. You're not getting anywhere with me like that, if you want to impress me, do it in the game.

I understand how ENY works, it limits plane sets mathematically based on forum hogs' ability to whine about being outnumbered.
-Twitchy

Which is fine at 8pm est. when there's 500 players and something can be done about it. At four in the morning, when there's only a 10 player difference between lowest and highest numbers, this is the epitomy of ridculousness.
Title: Re: Late Night ENY
Post by: Lusche on November 11, 2009, 03:37:37 PM
Either way the difference was no more than 10 players between the highest and lowest numbers.

You are still using absolute numbers instead of relative values. "no more than 10 players" sounds so little. 30 Players to 20 is "just 10 players" - and 50% advantage actually. Same as 300 to 200.

I used to play EW arena, where "just 10 players" meant one side steamrolling the whole arena...
Title: Re: Late Night ENY
Post by: twitchy on November 11, 2009, 03:44:13 PM
So why limit the plane sets? Add more perk points to the outnumbered as an incentive, or make their ack more accurate during times of hardship. Limiting what planes can be flown is fine until the ENY gets up to close to thirty and we're fighting tempests with TBMs, then it's a joke. Great for score hounds who can switch sides and clean up on the TBM's and SBD's, I guess I'd be all for it too, but ENY at four in the morning is silly.

If your're reduced to "fighting Tempests with TBMs" (which isn't actually true to begin with) you have a massive numerical advantage.

You can't have both - either huge numerical advantage or "top gear". But you want both. That's all it is about.
Title: Re: Late Night ENY
Post by: twitchy on November 11, 2009, 03:55:48 PM
But you want both. That's all it is about.
This is going to shock you so hold on to your seat for a second here... I don't care about advantages or disadvantages, I want to fly with the knights as I have for ten years now, and I don't want the game telling me I can't fly the planes I enjoy and pay for. I know that's a difficult concept to understand for a lot of people, but there's other ways of catering to hoarde whiners without limiting the plane sets. Especially at 4am.

Not anything against Shuffler on this point, but his and other ‘side switching’ posts got me pondering the ethical implications.  You see a horde on your country or maybe an NOE mission, is it OK to change and up against it?  How about CV positions of the country from which one just transferred?  One can’t block out all memories, or else I wouldn’t remember my first wife.  But seriously, at what point does changing sides become sleazy?

There are plenty of great planes available >20 ENY.  You need to broaden your personal plane set.

it is a bigger problem with fewer player if you come in with

Waah they are still taking bases... make ack more accurate...

Yeah that's probably it, actually. We should get rid of bases and Gv's and all that superfulous junk and spawn in out of the sky into a perpetual furball like Asteroids on Atari. Sounds fun, that's where we're headed IMO.

Lusche, it's not about numbers, it about flying a Pony if I want to fly a Pony, be it 2 in the afternoon or 4:30 am. Like I said before, there are other solutions to numbers, and telling players they can't fly a p51 against a p51 is short bus material. Alot of you same guys are on other threads saying it isn't about winning the war, it's about air combat, so if that's the case, what the heck do you honestly care about balancing the war?

A Ten player difference at 4 in the morning is a big advantage.

For example say there are 5 players logged on, 4 are knight, 1 is bish.  Who do you think has the advantage even though it's only a 3 player advantage?  It's not the number that is important but the ratio.

I do think however that only players in flight should count towards eny.  If there are players afk in the tower that are causing balancing issues even though they aren't contributing, that isn't fair.

I don't have a problem with the game, I have a problem with the whiners getting the game catered to them. Waah they take bases... add ack, make towns larger...
Waah they are still taking bases... make ack more accurate...
Waaah we're getting outnumbered... limit plane sets...
Waaah we can't see the hoardes comming at night time... get rid of it...
Waaah they proked our fuel... make fuel unporkable...
It's a pattern.
You must be Mel Gibson in "Conspiracy Theory"? Fairy tales are great if you're a kid, but really. Either you haven't played much or reality is a foreign concept to you.

but I've made my point, ENY at four in the morning with no less than a ten player difference is rubbish. I'm sorry if you don't get that,

And you don't get the difference between absolute & relative numbers. And what has time of day to do with that? 50% players advantage is 50% advantage. Doesn't matter if 4 AM, PM or New Years Eve

ENY is very rarely going to >20. Pony B is available 90% of the time.
And ENY limiter isn't "balancing the war only - it's balancing air combat too

Great for score hounds who can switch sides and clean up on the TBM's and SBD's, I guess I'd be all for it too, but ENY at four in the morning is silly.

Everyone in the game can switch whenever they want, there is no such thing as a player who can and player who can't switch sides.  There are only those that choose not to.  There are even some who don't even realize that they made the choice, but they have.  ENY is going to be the consequence of that decision.

That's 6 in Krusty math!  :D

Plus it depends who the 1 bish is, say it were Grizz, Skyrock, slapshot, humble etc.......them 4 others are waaaay outnumbered lol.....

Like "Waaah, I want to fly what i like to, ENY sucks, make it go away?"  :P

BTW, you are still in contradiction with other Knight generals that swear that's the Knights that are constantly and exclusively outnumbered and ganged upon.
Could you all please make up your minds and settle on a common point of view?

Numbers have been somewhat even over the last few weeks in Blue North American Prime Time...a rarity.  Not so over the last two years.  While I'm not a knight general...or a game know-it-all, ENY and numbers vary over EU prime time, North America prime time and Australia/Pacific prime time.  I don't know what goes on in blue at 1AM, 4AM or even 7AM local CST--I'm asleep.  Don't even ask me what goes on in Orange because I can't get in.

Most folks don't care about ENY less than 10 except the furballers.  Base-takers have no qualms taking real estate with jugs and 110's.

Take a gander at blue during North American prime time...make an effort.  The vast majority of nights both bish and rook have double darbars on the knight front with usually less than a full darbar on their respective fronts...most nights, it's only token fights or just single toolshedders amongst them.  Were talking 6PM EST to 10PM PST..roughly 0000 GMT/0100 MEZ to almost 0500 GMT/0600 MEZ.

I have scads of SS to post, if needed, but I'd probably get Skuzzified for spamming all the graphics, but will be more than happy to oblige if asked.

At least in Blue on weekends and NA prime time--the bish/rook "Love Rainbow Treaty" stands...unless we pork all their ords and troops on both fronts--which my squad does as much as possible.

Trying to constantly say it aint so doesn't wash...and knights in blue NA prime time know better.

This is possibly the most absurd thing I've seen posted in some time and that's saying a lot. Do you actually believe there is some organized plan in place? If you do then reality is going to be brutal when you finally grasp it. :huh

Yeah, I despise furballers and country changers, sorry kettle, we're base takers. I see you switched countries last night as soon as I started posting missions, so much for that fantasy of switching to lowest numbers eh?  :lol

well, i'm a furballer. it's a blast trying to see what kind of performance i can squeeze outta my 38 o doom.

as of late, i've become a country changer.

i'm glad i have too. i'm getting to fly WITH people i've only flown against. i get to fly with and meet people i haven't yet. it adds another dimension to the game.

and best of all? when i switch to the low numbers side....never a long flight to find a fight.  :aok :bolt: :neener:

-Twitchy

I was going to get a screen shot of the roster lusche to post, but everybody knows how the system works so I didn't bother with it.

i fly MW almost exclusively. never more than around 60 in there. never a problem with eny either.

TY, CAP, but man lately I cant seem to hit crap, I was in a ki84 and expended all my ammo on a con 200 out, or should I say that I wasted all my ammo on the air around him :lol

(sorry, we fly German Iron only and the occasional Stromboli)

I always found it fun when the ENY is high.

It is nothing less than a riot taking an Emil out for a cruise and watching the uber planes auger trying to come down from 10k   :aok
