I know this is beating a dead horse and thee have been many of postings on this topic, but what is up with the cv flak. Last night I was in a chog at 6k rtb approx 8 miles from cv and BANG out goes my engine. So how far out do I really have to be to be safe from cv flak.
Maybe this should be another post but what I really hate is when a cv is out near a furball base just to give the eny something to run to.

Great shot......

Under 3K if you're in the same arena as an enemy CV.

yeah I know about the 3k but when eny cv around a base I can't gain alt even over my own base. O guess I'll have to live with it.

I meant 3K arena wide, Just to be safe.
Actually, wasn't it turned down a bit on the December 2 release if I'm reading this right?

>>Lowered the fire rate of automatic 5" and 88mm anti-aircraft guns.<<
It does seem a little less vicious I guess, though I haven't really been in too many CV fights since the release.

I stoped defending my own bases when they have a enemy CV on top of them.I got sick of getting killed by AI.And in the last patch they made it so Cv's can get closer to bases,i think .So its only worse.

Amazingly I haven't been hit by CV ack in a long time. Then again when I see one I always stay below 2K now ;) .
There are some gunners out there that are crack shots though. I, for one, have been able to knock a few fighters out of the sky from a 5" position when they are out of icon range. It's all about guessing how far the target is, how fast it's going, and then seeing the flight of the 5" shell before you fire.

You should be proud of that :aok

They set them further off. Now they can't get as close.

Ahhh, i read it wrong..well that's good anyway.

Yesterday I managed to get a kill streak of 14 in a C205. I'd been flying the plane for well over an hour and a half. I even went AFK and ate dinner, and came back 15-20 mins later still alive!
But at 12K I barely got within visible range of the enemy cv they kept parking off of a52, so far out it's barely visible, I'm banking and turning away from it.
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
10 flak bursts all in a split second, one of them blowing my wing off....
As I'm spiralling nose down at full throttle, going so fast I'm creaking, I get hit TWO MORE TIMES by the 5" flak (riddling what's left of my plane) before I hit the water!!!
FLAK DOES NOT WORK!
HiTech coded flak to simply magically appear in a box around planes.
I say he needs to redo this from scratch. Screw the box. 99% of the time it's lethal to targets it should never hit, and yet allows slow lumbering non-moving bombers through.
I repeat: SCREW the box! REMOVE it! Code in actual trajectories! When somebody's not in a 5" gun on a fleet, have an AI gunner step it, that must take altitude, speed, and course into account, then fire a shot, adjust. Give it variation for random skill and so forth, but make the CV (the SERVER) aim, rather than the "box" (the client) aim it.
Changing speed, altitude, direction, are all listed by HiTech as things that "make the box larger" -- but these never have any effect because the box is glued to you, it moves the same as you do. It's still lethal. However, if the AI on a CV fires at you and you change any of these, you could evade some of the shots already in the air. As now, each "aimed" shot would be a salvo of 5 or whatever, shotgun-scattered around a small area (so you could still get hit) but this removes the always-kills-the-least-threatening-craft lunacy that surrounds CVs now. Shouldn't take any more CPU power than the AAA ack does.
It would be like coding a Vietnam flight sim where the SAMs hit you no matter how hard or how fast you're going, how much you jink, when in reality you can defeat many with a high-speed break at the right time. It just doesn't work, and doesn't do any of the players justice.

As it is now there is no good reason to go above 3K, it's a death waiting to happen, and something HTC really needs to look at in depth, not try changing lethality.

I agree Krusty. I was killed the same way last night - I'd just entered the range of puffy ack and died instantly a few seconds later. I had to view film to see what happened.
AH2 is so well balanced that when I die I always blame myself for being out-flown, making a dumb choice, or most likely doing both. But getting killed by puffy ack is a computer kill that feels arbitrairy. It doesn't do justice to the rest of the game experience.
