Title: Ah, the fun that can be had mocking the paranoid...
Post by: Treize69 on December 31, 2009, 12:27:48 PM
The ATM system of my bank is down today- no big deal, it happens.  But for some reason, the Electronic Teller at the bank itself does still work (I know, I can't figure it out either). So while I'm at the bank grabbing a hundred bucks or so to get me through the weekend (in case the ATMs stay down), I overhear the guys behind me in the line (who oddly enough are the only ones behind me, the other 50+ people are all waiting in line to see the tellers. Go figure.) commenting on how it must be some kind of conspiracy and that the bank is going to lose everyones money over the holiday weekend, ruining us all (they are saying thise SERIOUSLY, not joking) and that the government must be behind it somehow.

To which I respond that the government actually found a way to push Y2K back ten years (since its now 2010 on the other side of the world) and, now that we all think we're past Y2K and safe until 2012, they're gonna make their move while noone is expecting it.

Which got one of the two guys to start calling everyone he could think of on his cell phone while I finished up my transaction (probably to see if 'they' had knocked out the satellites yet) and made the other one just stare at me as though I had just revealed some profound truth to him. They were whispering hurriedly and very quietly as I left.

God, how I hate stupid people. Unfortunately, they seem to be in the majority these days.  :cry

I always tell people at times like that "Just remember, 50% of the people in this country are below 'average,' and 'average' is pretty d@mn stupid."

Helps to make a lot of sense of why things are the way they are.

What you've committed is a federal offense under what the Department of Homeland Security considers domestic terrorism.  Have fun breaking big rocks into little rocks.

Considering they can't keep watch-listed suicide bombers off commercial jets, I'm not too worried.

There's some truth in that statement. Just remember, the security forces of a different country allowed him to board the plane.

Unless they have kept over 250,000$ in their account, it would impossible to loose their money due to FDIC.

Also if you have a co-ownership and a single ownership account you could increase your coverage to 500,000$

You could also add your IRA's into that coverage as well...so 750,000$

Also you can add to the list your POD/ITF accounts...so now your covered up to 1,000,000$

So, if you put your money into 4 different ownership accounts you will covered up to $1,000,000 at a single institution. Where I work at ,IBC, we have 4 charters. Each charter is considered its own institution..so at IBC you can be covered up to $4,000,000.

FDIC has not back out of a single payment since its inititation.

Oh yeah, the story... LOL!! Working as a teller at my bank I hear everything just like you mentioned...it just amazes me at how stupid people can be.

When you look at your account online or ask how much money you have in your account, thats not real money...its digital credits. If everything crashes and theres no money, why would you be worried about something that isnt there?
