Surely you've seen this:

Or a little ole' .22 will take care of it.

Cool pics though, my grandpa's hobby is trying to keep the squirrels off of my grandma's bird feeders.

Never felt the need to torture an animal that was just trying to do its best to survive, but maybe that's just me.

You could try to move it further out on the limb.  We had this problem over at my mother's house.  It ended up being a matter of taking away each new way they found to get into the seed.  Took some time, but we got there.

They sell metal or plastic covers that will prevent them from getting the seeds, alot of people just make one out of some sheetmetal, the animals just slip off because they cant hang on to metal or plastic thats smooth

Exactly what I was going to suggest.   :devil  Living in a rural town in Tennessee, squirrels are everywhere.  Mostly gray and a few fox squirrels.  .22s are perfect for killing them (of course if you plan on eating them or feeding them to predators (coyotes, bobcats [in our area] or whatever you have there).

Shoot it

If you shoot it then you must eat it. We don't have black ones down here in the south so I find that oddly pretty in an animal sort of way.

One of my friends has a black squirrel mounted (I'm in TN).  He said he killed it somewhere in this area.  That's the only one I've ever seen, though.

We have plenty of black squirrels around here, but the odd thing is I almost never see them in the woods they are always in town.

I've never seen a black squirrel before.

I'd imagine the black color would make them easier prey for the coyotes we have around here, seeing the black color against a white (snow) background.

The only place I've seen a black squirrel was just outside of Detriot.  Soutfield MI to be more specific.  I can't imagine too many coyotes in the city.  The first time I saw one, I thought it was a small cat.  Very different though.  We have Grey, Red, and Flying squirrels where I live.  Plenty of them.

We had a pet squirrel that we rescued from the forest. It became completely tame and once it moved back to the forest it came when we called it.

I'd say squirrels are about as intelligent as dogs so whatever you do to them, think if you would do it to a dog. I know they're considered a pest in many states but would you deliberately maim and wound dogs if they had that status? Killing is one thing, maiming and torturing another. Stuff for sick people.

There is a huge black squirrel population in DC, which was a surprise for me coming from gray squirrel country.  I've never figured out what people have against em.  Sure they are nasty little creatures that play in your trash, but does that really hurt you?  Were you planning on eating that 3 week old banana? :)

Never felt the need to torture an animal that was just trying to do its best to survive, but maybe that's just me.

We have black squirrels in the Houston area. They have short hair. I used to see them on the golf course. Red Wolf Run Golf Club in Huffman.

Get a peanut feeder, and put it in another tree. The squirrels may hire Jesse Jackson to represent them due to the segregation but at least you'll have the squirrels eating the peanuts and out of the bird feeder.

Cool lookin squirrel. Normally I would be spouting the same "shoot it" stuff as some of the other guys...but only if it's squirrel season and you're going to eat it...besides it looks like you're in an urban setting so not a good idea to kill the little furry things.

You could move that feeder further out on the limb then put a large cheap plastic bowl upside down on that cable between the limb and the feeder...the squirrels will just slide off the bowl trying to get to the feeder.

:banana:I JUST plucked one (grey) off my fence, it did a 360 backflip into a half gainer to a belly flop. Right through the cheek at 30 yds with a BB gun. :devil People seriously EAT these rodents? Not judging, just find it repulsive.

I gave up and started feeding both, Now my birds get seed, and my squirrels get Peanuts. I just buy a big 50lb bag from the feed store and it only runs about $20.00 a month. I put them right outside of my (home ) office window and they have a blast. Its gotten so that i recognize and have named most that come to the peanut feeder. THe good thing is that they also have plenty of acorns around naturally, so if im late putting out the peanuts, they go scavenging for the acorns They dont bother with the birdseed anymore.

Dont get me wrong, im a hunter, always have been, god willing always will be but i wont kill something if im not going to eat it.

And yes you can eat squirrel, and its very good.

I generally use 6 to 8 depending on their size...but then I'm not a redneck.

Ever tried any? You should take samples of what you normally eat to the local college and have some tests run on it...squirrel would be healthier.

I put Tabasco sauce on my seed to deter the raccoons but I doubt that would work for squirrels.

Get yourself a squirrel proof bird feeder.  They sell quite a few different varieties.  While none are guaranteed 100% effective against every squirrel, I understand some of them can be quite entertaining.

I GENERALLY agree with you on that.HOWEVER, these guys are more than cute, they cause serious damage to property and are more than just a nuisance. Mine in particular have gotten into my attic, and took some time to get rid of and dissuade. Believe me, theres plenty to go around, i guess I could donate a few to the local food bank, but somehow I dont think they will accept it.

When we go RED DAWN and are forced to live in the forest while ambushing commie patrols, then I'll eat one. :rock

Ahh i see....makes sence. You left that part out and i read it as you were just killing them for the heck of it. My appologies.

Be careful with those little critters in the attic. I work as a property adjuster for a large insurance company, and approx 5yrs ago i had to go to a fire where 16 condos burned to the ground. Cause of loss you ask?  A squirrel got into the attic and chewed thru the Romex wires to a light fixture, one arc and that was all she wrote( Cause and Origin investigators report named this as the cause). The fire jumped from house to house due to the fact that all the roof were cedar shakes ( wood shingles )  16 familys lost everything because of one squirrel.

7.5 Million in damages.........crazy stuff

So doing damage to your property, yea i agree with you.

They've got this ship down in Anarctica called the Sea Shepherd. Perhaps you could sign on with them for a bit, maybe take out a subscription to The Nation and Mother Jones...  :D

The black squirrel is simply a variation of the eastern grey squirrel, the black phaze is more often found in the squirrels northern range but can be found wherever grey squirrels are.

Up here in Canada we have plenty of both kinds, most die over winter but with the milder winters we've had lately there's plenty around.I have several suicidal squirrels in and around my yard. They tempt fate running the fences that keep my dogs comfined.
