IN case you did not know, it is a use modification of Crysis over at http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/ (http://www.mechlivinglegends.net/)
I have been playing for a couple of weeks, but I had the most epic battle tonight. Another guy and I, we were continually getting our ass's kicked by a Madcat. No matter what, we couldn't put him down. So collectively we decided, we gotta go toe to toe with the guy at 2 feet range to make it happen. So I grab a Madcat, and he grabs a Vulcher for fire support. And the video says the rest.
It brings me back 15 years to Netmech - and I thought that was impossible. A real clash of the titans where team work actually makes a huge difference - that and the graphics and immersion. If you own Crysis, you owe it to yrself to give the mod a try. Its free anyway.

I used to love the old Mechwarrior games. I'll have to check this out.

Best version of BT evar... and I've owned every single pc & board game.

It's finally out? Huh, I guess the mailing alert list didn't work.

I've got this mod too, it's great. Really does remind me of playing the closed beta of MPBT 3025 before Microsoft forced EA to pull the plug on it.
The really cool thing about this mod is that you're not just limited to piloting mechs, you can also man various types of air and hover vehicles as well as play as infantry.

make sure you've got a good system to run it. Even though the mod developers have done a good job in trying to keep things down, they're still using CryEngine 2 and it takes a beefy system to run it at higher settings.

gunna pick up the game just to play the mod!

That is the understatement of the year.
The video that I shot was taken on an AMD Phenom II X4 955 running stock 3.2 GHz. The MB is a MSI 7590FX-GD70 AM3. RAM is Corsair XMS3 DHX 4GB With 8 GIG total on the board. The video card is running a Nvidia GTX 295 with 1795 RAM which is an internal SLI architecture.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130504
Newegg doesn't have it anymore, so something better probably superseded it.
Even though this motherboard will not do SLI since its got the ATI hardware on the MB, if ATI is yr thing, it'll do quad crossfire - (and you'd better have a kilowatt range PSU for that if yr so inclined). WD1500 150GIG raptor sata system drive. Games and scratch disk 600 GIG sata - might be sea gates.
Currently on XP64, runs stable in 32 bit mode. The components without the video card and drives I got for around $500. Some stuff cannibalized from the previous rig as expected. Don't go undersize on the power supply either. To run all those, and keep it cool under load - yr looking at a decent 850 Watt PSU - so don't cheap out on that.
No question, you NEED a lot of HP to run this as intended. You'll know where the money went when you do though unlike with some other programs out there (ala MSFSX).

I live just a few minutes from Track21. I used to play a ton when it was at Dave & Busters. Maximum difficulty settings, Master trials, all that. You sort of have to get used to playing 1 handed though... your left hand is glued to the upper left hand monitor's coolant dump button the entire game, every match... unless you happen to use the AC based loki or something.

If they properly code Elementals, I'll be very excited. I want to ride along on Wolfala's shoulder, then jump onto another mech and tear it apart. Elementals = critical hit making beasts.

It is truely a combined arms game when you have good comms with yr team. The LRM and arrow4 long range arty can hang back behind cover. Ravens or Cougars with Narc beacons can slap them on targets from 1km out. A BA with a tag laser can lase a target from 1.2km behind cover. Launch on warning, really can create havoc to the OPFOR.
That, in addition to the omni's with lasers and cannon...shit airplane door closing. I could write, but I'll let ack ack finish

Just let me know when infantry mount, dismount, swarm, and leg attacks are enabled, and I'm on my way :)
Bear in mind I'm the kind of dick that on the board game... people bring 4 expensive mechs.. and I bring 36 J Edgar's to ram their legs off with. It's all about fitting the most effective force for a given BV :neener:

I have been a massive Battletech/Mechwarrior geek since I was ten years old. This is perhaps the greatest moment of my lie.
After the botched hack job that Microsoft called Mechwarrior 4, this is... glorious. This is what Mechwarrior 4 should have been. And using an FPS game engine to do this means that combined arms will be truly possible to implement. This is awesome.

Like Wolfala said, this game really does emphasise the combined in combined arms. You have to work together as a team and just can't go running off in some 35+ ton mech like you're Rambo and expect to win. I like how infantry are the only ones that can capture control points, provides incentive to play that class and also for the mechs and other vehicles to be used in a more realistic support or heavy assault roles.

Crap, now I gotta go and dig out my copy of Crysis again.

Is it just clan stuff, or is the inner sphere represented too? I always preferred the inner sphere due to my getting involved in battletech before the clans were part of the fiction.

I'll end up picking up Crysis today and getting this fired up. I'm typically the guy who just doesn't like to bring mechs onto a mech battlefield :) I'd rather have some J Edgars with NARCs, backed up by the 3058 LRM Cars & c3. I'm a Schiltron fan too, just not the ARROW-IV loadout version.
I'm curious to how some of the gear will work. Unless they build in inherent inaccuracy to the weapon systems, things like C3 & tarcomps, which were powerful force multipliers, will not be useful at all :( and pulse lasers, pound for pound the nastiest weapons in the game, won't be useful at all.

You don't need to use XL engines, you know.

I used to play BATTLETECH: A GAME OF ARMORED COMBAT on the Sega Genesis...I couldn't get past the second level (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NintendoHard).
-
Does anyone remember the old NetMech League from MW2:Mercenaries?
-
You don't need to use XL engines, you know.
You do if you want to carry any firepower. Sponge-mechs are overrated! MaxTech even had provisions for XXL engines. I always found Clan vs 3050/55 IS to be fairly well balanced... right until the Clan players through ROE out of the window. Then it becomes a one-sided beating. Clan designs, except for a few like Daishi-Widowmaker, were ammo explosions waiting to happen anyways. Soon as that side torso is gone you're +10 heat and pretty much useless for anything except gauss rifle fire.
LOL, and so it begins. The children of Kerensky return. Anyone ever play the old BT computer games? Crescent Hawks Inception and Revenge?
I've literally played every battletech game there is. Every PC game, every console game, the pods, the tabletop RPG, every board game from 3025 (4th sucession war) to 3072 (jihad wars). Played in a 2 day, 8 player Tukkayid event with 200 minis. Even played some Battlespace and AeroTech. I've got every FASA BT publication archived as a PDF, including copies of all the original maps, and 16 issues of Battletechnology Magazine. Something about big robots blowing stuff up appeals to me...
-
Dl'd it, played it. Needs a few (and by few I mean alot) of adjustments. 1 thing is there is no separation between IS ad Clan. You can pilot either no matter what side your on. That being said the only mode that seems to run in this game is the Solaris arena so that may be it. And for the GVr's if you thought stunt tanks in Aces was bad, wait'll you get a load of this. You can knock down trees, after you do a 360 somersault with a twist 20 feet in the air. Joystick support is touchy, or non-existent.
Now that being said it is a cool game. It is in Beta so hopefully the above will be fixed. Graphics are great, especially when a Mech goes critical (mini-nuke, must've been a B-29 somewhere) and the ability to choose which way you want to play is fun. I'm going to keep an eye on it see what happens. One thing I thought tho was this genre would be an excellent for HTC. With the current gameplay model in Aces High, you'd have a hell of a game.
-
You do if you want to carry any firepower.
Depends. Inner Sphere mechs on standard engines have about as much tonnage available for weapons as Clan mechs using XL engines, but are slower. It doesn't help that Inner Sphere weapons are significantly less powerful per ton than Clan weapons. That is why IS forces are supposed to have about twice the tonnage of Clan forces for balanced play.

Played it, but didn't own it :( Never did own an Amiga.
There's a modern version very similar. MegaMekNet. http://www.mekwars.org/
Java based, runs okay. All the rules and gear is in there. Some online campaigns going also. Though running against PC AI, it tends to crap itself with more than 4 or 5 opponents.

Not very newbie friendly is it? Acronym after acronym. Or, is it a better idea to buy one of those rule books?

I've never played any Mechwarrior game, but that looks damn cool

I so love Mechwarrior that I immediately bought Crysis as soon as I saw this thread. Back in my college days, some friends and I made at least one road trip a month to go to the Battle Tech Center in Chicago to play the pod game. Great stuff!
So anyway, I bought Crysis and have it installed no problem. I'm currently downloading the Mechwarrior MOD... But I don't know anything about Torrents and don't know what I need to use a Torrent file... So, I'm downloading the primary file the old fashioned way... Thing is, I don't see a regular download listing for the patch... It is only listed under the Torrents...
Question is... Is the a place to download the patch without Torrent? Or... What exactly do I need or need to do to use the torrent download?
I've just never had any reason to do the whole torrent thing and lack the appropriate knowledge.
Thanks in advance. :salute

Get a bitTorrent Client like uTorrent: http://www.utorrent.com/ (http://www.utorrent.com/)
Download the torrent file from the site and open it with the client.
Wait a while, and voila, it is all downloaded.

Anyone play/remember the old GeNie 'Battletech Online' ? It was great...for the day. Dial-up, with matches determining control of resources and planets. Fun stuff. I wish someone would get together and design a persistent online Battletech sim MMO...

I played the old school 2.0/3.0 pods @ Exhilarama, West Oaks Mall in Houston back in ... wow.. had to be '96. I had maybe 25 missions in those. That place died, and the Tesla pods came out. Those were at Dave & Busters, and I probably put in about 250 missions on those. I was fortunate, I asked about the advanced modes, and was the only player around, so an employee set up a 30 minute game and gave me a crash course. After that they banned me from playing against newbies and only let me play with the masters & veteran regulars.
A Gillian's opened up and picked up 8 more pods. Then, overnight, D&B dumped their pods, and that Gillians closed down. Now, there's between 8 and 16 Tesla pods that belong to MechCorps, sitting at a place called Track21 running Firestorm. They even did a Red Planet beta preview on a laptop there recently. It's slated for re-release if it hasn't been already.
I haven't played in the pods since they moved to Track21. I think I'd rather just code and build my own set at this point. I can pull it off for < $2500 each, compared to the $10k+ of Tesla pods, with better features and a lot less maintenance. I think Virtual World is halfway on drugs. They don't even write their own site-link code, and haven't upgraded the internals... ever apparently.

Got Crysis via Steam yesterday and installed the MWLL packages. Naively I thought it also featured a single player campaign so I hit the button. Man, it was FUN to jump around the map in a elemental suit clearing the level in like a 10th of the time I spent in normal mode... :D
Wasn't able to go online since I had to dig out my old Gamespy account first. Ready to board some good ol' IS walking death crate in a day or two! Getting excited... :x

Errr, haven't read the manual or anything. But from the capabilities (jumb/laser/rockets) and the looks of the armour diagram I was under the impression that the standard 'first person stance' you have is an Elemental (or 'Toad' as they say), a kind of minimech or suit of armour built around your body.
Any hint if the Quickdraw is included? (my personal Mech I got assigned in my young years when I was part of Mechforce Switzerland - oh, btw, I had the Clan Ghostbear Insignia shaved into the back of my head for a while  )

WoW! After a slow and tedious start I finally got some online time. Wow again, it's a blast to play and keeps me away from AH! The combined warfare is great and both tanks and aerofighters have their role. The game itself is still rough around the edges but has a tremendous potential. Jumping around in BattleArmour is also fun - actually managed to down a damaged Uller with my single SRM after he took my Raven out.
---
Also I managed to run the 64-bit version with my Steam download (which per se is only 32-bit) with a little help in the MWLL forum. Might be my personal biased perception but it seems to run much smoother on 64-bit than on 32-bit.
Now I long for historical match-ups/scenarios and some more old school 'mechs!

Still haven't managed to get my HOTAS working - any hints from the veterans?

The IS has Longinus BA.

Alright - found an instruction in the MWLL forum how to get the G940 working. But it requires the installation of PPJoy which includes unsigned drivers. I tried all the methods I found through google without success. I just can't get PPJoy to be installed under Win 7 64-bit.
What I tried:
- bcdedit cmd command for testing unsigned drivers which gives me the 'Testmodus' watermark but still fails to install it
- F8 and select disable driver signature testing
Any hint from the tech-geeks here ? :headscratch:

I'm still under xp64 ATM. There're a new version being released to supercede the beta within the next month according to the dev notes. Might address some issue. Otherwise try running as administrator
-
Forgot to mention: I ran then program as administrator and I got UAC disabled...
Somewhere I read that the final version will be based on Crysis warfare - does that mean that vanilla warfare won't suffice to run MWLL? Or are they mabe switchin to the Crysis3 engine? That would solve the problem since it supports multiple joysticks.
Anyway - will try some 3rd party software to circumvent driver signature when I come home today. Aerofighters are a PITA with mouse control...
-
I am not certain of that. Check the forums. I remember the dev guys saying that it would be a straight Crysis mod - not crysis wars or Warhead. Though i'm not on the dev team - so anything is possible. But what they have is a solid package at the moment.

Just when you get comfortable, here I come and twittle it up. New version released today. Still open beta though.

This particular change has me a bit miffed: - Decreased Gauss damage agaisnt aerospace, to prevent guaranteed one shot kills. (Those were my specialty)
Please BE WARNED: You MUST delete your existing MWLL beta install folder FIRST, before using the new installer. Please back up any data like your custom maps before proceeding! Note that the installation will not succeed and you might not be able to run the game if you don’t delete the old folder.

Hehe - new versions are always a good thing though!
I just wish I'd get my G940 working and shows those earthworms what a real jock can do with an aerofighter... :airplane:

Well Started to D/L Crysis and gonna check this out.
I started Mech along long time ago. When FESA had the first game you had to run all over a map and look for people, and items. Finally getting a mech, holy crow that must have been 1990. I think I stopped playing the mechwarrier when Mech 2 came out. But I am definilty going to check this out.
1.2 gig d/l for demo, so will take my dsl awhile.

[/bragmode]Was leading the scoreboard for the first time. It's a good feeling to be the first to roll out in an Atlas while all those Owens and whatnot run circles around you. OTH, the beatstick Madcat II variant is awesome! Seen Nova Cats go down in 2 salvos!!!![/bragmode]

4deck - huh? :headscratch:
Are you aware that MWLL is a mod - or to be specific an open BETA of a mod! And are you aware, that there is a forum where you can find a tutorial about joystick issues!!! It's free and it's the best incarnation of Battletech on a computer to this day!

Got some pod time over the weekend. Buttons & displays ftw.

Alright - I might have said 'on a personal computer you can afford at home' :P

My last 'podtime' was around '94 in the Battletech Center in London. Actually that was my only podtime. Did a nice circle-dance in my beloved Vulture! :D
