There's been some discussion in the Dueling Bracket Results thread about segmenting European players to help with the time zone differential between the Americas and Europe.
My question for players not based in the Americas is would you be more likely to participate in the dueling bracket if this was the case?
This would be an optional choice. If you didn't opt in for a specific region of the world then you'de be placed randomly with the rest of the bracket.
I've included an example of how this might work below using a portion of the current bracket. I this example I've included three major regions of the world; Americas (listed as US), European (listed as Euro) and Eastern (listed as Asia). For simplicity I just advanced the top player in each bracket. Slots would still be pre-allocated to balance the bracket and, other than this general segmentation, players would be selected randomly to fill the slots.
As you can see the brackets eventually merge and the time differentials need to be dealt with but by fewer players and it lets those outside the Americas have a few rounds playing at more comfortable times. In the example below the Euro/Asian players would merge into the bracket with the Americas players during the quarterfinal round.

If it helps to gain more players to the tournaments then I'll implement something like this. If there's little to no interest then I won't add to my workload.

Are there enough european players? I mean european players in Europe......
Could N. American players join to fight european players? I'd be interested.
-
don't bother BE, not much point.
it isnt hard to get 10 minutes worth of time in I think kazaa has just been very unlucky with his matchups.
Plus with the quality of european players i think it will be a little skewed.

Not me. If I wanted to participate, I'm pretty sure I could arrange a duel with most of the players. An Euro segment would not increase the appeal of the tournament for me at all.

Not the best idea, like Bruv said, I just had some real bad luck with setting up any duel.

Don't be so hard on yourselves. Someday Europe will catch up to the US.
<Just kidding>
As an alternate to the geographical split, maybe a preferred time split. Personally, I can get on at 2200 to 2400 US Central time (0400 to 0600 GMT) consistently.
Maybe break the world into four six hour blocks ...
-
why not next time just split the bracket into regions (kind of how hockey dooes its all star games now) that way the only time we'd run into a time issues would be at the end when the best of the east is fighting the best of the west. but they wouldnt be restricted to 1 week since nobody would be waiting on them to continue tourny.
-
personaly i say leave it be in an all in one group. As mentioned Kaz just had bad luck this time around, generally speaking the time shift has made very little problems.
-
Personally I'd leave it as is BE - I dont participate as I work shift, and my time off at the moment is mullered by having to decorate my place for sale.

this would probably work for me

For me as a Euro flyer it's generally no problem to set a date with you US guys. The first round was a bit of a problem because of the Superbowl weekend but still I managed to get pawned in 10min. Keep it as it is - with a broad player base. I think everyone who really wanted to participate - did.

Lol, not clicking does it? No one is getting excluded. Just some have the option to be in the 1/4, 1/8 or 1/2 (depending on numbers) of the bracket that caters to a better time zone for them. Everything is still the same and once again, no one is getting excluded. Did I say that BE said it will be only by choice? If you don;t like it, don't make the choice to be in that part of the bracket. What exactly is the problem every one is worried about? :lol
My idea did not came up because Kazaa had a problem. This thing does not solve a problem of snow storm or crazy work hours. It just makes it easier for the people that are in a different time zone and choose [\b] that option. I don;t know how else to say it lol. It also solves my problem of being available for 50+ hours during the week and weekend but being pinned to a mid day weekend date twice. Last time I had to get the kids back home from the pool early so I would be on time.

I understand your point Ded, just for me i prefer to fly during US hours. I'm usualy busy during the day and night time/very early morning suits me perfectly. Add to that, before i knew it was a choiec thing, i just didnt want to get lumped into a bracket with the same people every time round. Not that it matters who I fight, just the repetition and predictable nature of it would have been tedious. By all means set it up, I still going to stay in the peak time Us bracket if possble.
-
I would join the Euro bracket for no other reason than to fly against some of them a little more.
Some of the friendlier and nicer players are from Europe....

Well at least we will get the choice...I couldn't imagine getting own by the same few each time....with the americans I stand a little bit of a chance :D
For the same reason bat said...after a few more rounds with him I might just work out his moves....you have a different style to most bat....very refreshing....and fun to move out of the comfort zone

hey BE,
leave it as it is right now, i think splitting up US and EU TZ players would not an addition. The good part about you challange is to meet people accross TZ and squads.

I'd say it's a great idea to leave it as an option. Some may want to segment others may not but what it boils down to is the person willing to make the duel and set a time, date, and be on time. I've had some of my best duels dueling european players and for some reason their better :lol don't ask me why I'm from Tennessee. (must be in the water :aok)
