I know I'm mutilating a dead horse here, but I am in hopes that just one nub that thinks taking TT/FT bases is "fun" or valuable for the war effort will think twice next time.
Nd isles is probably my fav map in this game. I'm sure that there is a majority playerbase that log on and don't have time to climb 2 sectors to look for a fight or 20 min from a spawn to even see a GV. TT also gives a great sanctuary from the horde.
I'm trying to figure out the mentality that taking and owning TT/FT bases is valuable to the "war effort". Ive heard here and there that " It takes up valuable resources and these guys furballing in there could be taking other bases". You guys know that removing the "resources" there also means that guys on the other side are freed up to kill off your war winning efforts. Its strategically stupid!! This isn't an attack on BISH, NIT or ROOK..it happens all the time on all sides.
:pray that HTC makes these uncapturalble some time in the future

It won't happen. And the reason the FTWs go after these bases is the same reason they go after all the other V-bases on any other map. Because its easy. 2 ack, a couple hangars, and troops. Pretty simple. They still don't have a clue of how to capture a field. Which gets proven nightly. :aok
-
Lamers, griefers or noobs capture TT bases.
Players that capture bases in TankTown 100% fall into one of the 3 above categories.
There is no justification.
-
Heheheh.
I guess HTC needs a special map tile for certain fields which contain (draws breath) The Immovable Object (TM).
Little bump on a log somewhere, needs eleventeenyone bajillion damage points to destroy, otherwise field ain't down.
Griefers would still try though.
-
GVers on all sides send M-3's to capture bases. It's only easy with no defense. When the bomb****s interfere with GV battles thats Lame. What good would all the GV bases on TT be if the fight centered on only the central 3 bases?
The fight should be fluid if they capture a base you push back and try to recapture it.
Now if a Horde decides to take the whole Island .....well we all know the lameness of hordes. The goal of all players should be to promote a good fight. :airplane:

proper defense can make it nearly impossible to take v-bases. i've seen single players hold off many for long enough for the hangars to re-up.

With all due respect Tralfz, you're in a pretty sizable squad (two wings last i looked),what keeps all you guys from porking the enemy troops? All sides on that island start off with the same rescources i.e., airfield with bombs. Pretty simple.

Or how about we modify some maps to make FT/TT bases un-capturable?

tank Town/ Fightrtown are the biggest waste of time in the game. Has no stratigic or tacital reason, its made for dweebs and newbies who cant take bases

Doesn't fun count anymore? Tank Town used to be the spot to be. Huge battles on the weekends.

By that logic then all the elite base taking types have the other 90% of the map to play with so why not let the "dweebs and newbies" have their fun?

I love TT when the Napoleons are not there. Fun fights last night <S>

Yeah it is Uptown, but unless freindly fire was turned on, I couldnt do anything about it or trust me..I would. Its the guys in green that take TT/FT that peeve me off.
BTW.. My guys are usually on at 7-8pm EST, in which case we may have 5-6 turnout. When were on , our usual MO is that we pork bases first..then we can focus on killn em :aok

lol actually its full of people that could care less about the war and people that have no interest in attacking undefended bases. id gladly help with teh war if it meant id be facing opposition and not flying to fields full of ostis and fhs down.

Considering that AcesHigh is about Aerial Combat, and that base capture is a mere side show put in to facilitate Aerial Combat, large groups of players that avoid the fight and hoard bases to "win da' war" are the biggest waste of time in the game.
There is no "Winning" of a war. It never ends. New map, new bases, here we go again.
What IS final is a fight.
In a fight there is a clear winner and looser.
If you want to "win" in AcesHigh learn to fight.
Heck, if I am defending a base vs. a huge hoard and land 15-30 kills vs. 1-3 deaths, in my opinion even if they do capture the field, I "won" that.
Don't get caught up in the Side Show.
and not flying to fields full of ostis and fhs down.
Had an interesting debate with a player about that last night. We had the field capped with 10-15 planes, VH and all field ack down, and this player and his squad came in and dropped all the hangers.
One of my squaddies said a few disparaging remarks about dropping the FH's. (rhymed with regarded) and all the WM's immediately RTB to find another fight.
Their view was "why take the chance? We were here earlier and ended up not taking the base in a similar situation."
My view was "that may be, but you were not here with 4 WM's capping the field."
I could see their point. I have seen this squad have a field capped and in a very short time they were all dead. The same can not be said of my squad.
I think my reply was "it all depends on who you surround yourself with".
In my opinion "quality" trumps "quantity" in most situations. If nothing else the WidowMakers excel and doing the small things that most squads overlook that makes a field capture smooth and easy. We ARE the guys killing the manned ack and checking the spawns for inbound nme. (along w/ many other "things") It is close to a rule in my squad that if you up a fighter you need to take bombs. Better to have them and pickle 'em than need them and not got 'em. Heck, I upped vulched fields w/ bombs 9 times out of 10. (pickled otr of course)
Not that I have not advocated dropping FH's in the past. It is just suuuuper rare.
WidowMaker base capture 101. "Drop VH, Ack, Town, bring in troops".
-
Or how about we modify some maps to make FT/TT bases un-capturable?
Because HTC said "No".
And I beleave it is still true that the guys who make maps, Can not make a terrain map with anything that looks like a "Fightertown".

Bla bla bla and bla
sorry it was long but well said +1 :aok
how 'bout this though: 5k air launch for fighter dweebs. bomb proof bubble around gv's. 4 sector wide insta-respawn town for the bomb tards. and a little monkey running around with a flag. Whoever captures the flag and takes it to their base wins teh war. That way everyone's happy and the ftw's can spend the entire day playing with their monkey.
edit: forgot to add 30k launch with optional pressurized suits for akak and steve :aok

:rofl :rofl :rofl This is DogFites excuse for why he just drops fighter hangars at furballs. Its completely retarded for someone to say this for taking TT/drop the fighter hangars at a furball. This is a game, let people play how they want, not go take away theirs so they play it your way.

This is war fellaz, anything goes. Keep yer head low.

I'd have to say that if a base is capture-able, folks are going to capture them.. Threads like this don't make anyone feel bad about doing it.. It probably just incites them to do it more.. It's funny that so many people here think they know the correct way to play.. Is there one? I try to make this game fun for myself within the constraints of whatever is happening on the map, I certainly don't let anyone's griping or belittling on the BBS affect my own game play.. There must be a hundred threads like this and they nor this one will change anything..

While personally I couldn't care less whether or not TT/FT get capture by a bunch of dweebs it's attitudes like this one that is contributing to the poor game play problems that everyone is always "griping" about. This "I'll do what ever I want with my squad" attitude is pretty selfish. It's the same with these dorks who capture TT/FT, they couldn't care less the fun they are ruining for a bunch of other players.
There are a lot of different ways to play this game for everyone, but using your head and having a little class goes a long way in making it more fun for everyone.

I don't think in my post, at any point I either condoned nor condemned the taking of FT/TT.. Personally in fact, I avoid it.. If you want to get personal and it makes you feel better, that's fine.. But having never flown with me or knowing exactly what I'm about in any way at all makes your statement a bit weak.. However, if someone is ruining your game play I'd do a double check before throwing stones.. I may be short on a lot of things but class, is not one of them :salute

Many times ive switched sides just to kill/ disrupt "missions" trying to capture TT bases. I will gladly do it again, I know im not alone in this regard either. :D :aok

I like TT 'cos it's the only time I ever get to see an enemy tank before I get blown up.

Interesting take. I always considered base takers as the ones who can't fight.
Hence why they just take bases...... one of the easiest things to do in the game.

Are you saying shooting buildings down, strafing map rooms, and hitting 'B' to release troops is easy? I'd like to see you do it! :lol

OK, lets look at what you posted.....

SO by NOT letting it effect your game play your saying you play the way you want, and you point out that that anyones "gripping" isn't going to affect your own game play.
Funny that sounds like your saying your going to play the game the way you want even if it screws with others players fun.
As I said I don't care about what happens in TT/FT, and it has nothing to do with what I posted other than it is usually taken by people who display the same attitude toward others players you seem to have. I wasn't pointing you out personally, but I was pointing out the "I'm going to play my way no matter how it effect others" attitude. My statement was based off what you posted, your words. I didn't make anything up here.
If you took offense at what I said, maybe I hit a bit too close to home.
-
LOL... I actually meant quite the opposite, though reading it again I can see how it could be taken that way.. I generally steer clear of TT/FF speaking for myself.. What I intended to say was that stomping on folks and throwing names like "tards", "noob" etc. is probably not the best way to get them to change.. As far as making it fun for myself that does not include intentionally stepping on anyone else's toes.. And I would not want to see it from anyone that fly's with me.. No offense taken either way..

You understand that both of you could say that at each other all day and all night and each one of you will just be making a bigger fool of yourself than the other, right?

I can understand the complaint about tank town, depending on the circumstances. But the fact is that capturing bases is part of the game, and players who don't care about it have no more right to complain about others doing it as the latter have to complain that the first bunch aren't joining the takes.
As for WMLute, your squaddie was being rude, it's that simple. And if your complaint is that the squad in question (which, for the record, was not mine, although I was there and stand by their action) spoiled your chances of padding your scores by gang-vulching anything that moved on the base, I have zero sympathy. If you had wanted a fight, you could have gone and found a FIGHT, not a neo-maxi-zoom-dweebie vulch-fest, so don't try to pretend anyone was ruining your furball or shutting down a good fight. And bombing hangers may not take a lot of skill (depending on circumstances, although a lot of people in this game seem to have trouble hitting even one hanger with 42,000 lbs. of bombs) but it takes considerably more than it takes for six guys to hover around a small field waiting for a single plane to appear so they can kill it before it moves two inches.

Look,
there are many other bases on the map that could be captured, but for some reason they choose to go to tank town and ruin the fights that everyone else there are having who don't care about taking bases.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying base capturing. Its just that people at tank town are there because of the the close proximity of their base to the enemies and enjoy the crazy fights that erupt there due to there being three countries clashing in one place. Taking a base in tank town disrupts that balance and ruins the fun. You don't need tank town to win the war, **PLEASE** TAKE BASES ELSEWHERE ON THE MAP.

I don't regard disagreement as whining, or, for that matter, as evidence of lack of skills or intelligence, as a number of folks above have alleged against each other. I only said people who were whining are whiners. :)

That's a tough tell............... Many a day I'm a Richard Nixon just to be one, other days I'm too drugged up on pain killers to know what I'm saying and yet other times..... It's more fun to make people more and more angry.

I understand that, and I generally avoid doing it. The main reason I weighed in is that the thread had gone quite a bit further.
I started this thread in hopes that 1 or 2 guys out there would read this would understand (not neccissaraly agree) to why TT means anything to certain people that play this game.
TT/FT is like that bulk candy you see in supermarkets..easy to grab, throw in your mouth/pockets, noone will ever notice right? There are no signs ( at least I've ever seen any) that say " dont eat this unless you buy it". We as civilized human beings, just dont do it.
TT/FT, even though "Capturable", is used as a meeting place for most players to be in close proximity of eachother if they dont have time or will to reset map, pork ords, sink CVs, bring a goon..etc.
There is absolutley NO strategic value with taking those bases, so my question is WHY? Ive heard "because its fun", "because its fun" or the god worst of em all "Well they do it"
Have respect for others,, the game should be enjoyed by everyone :salute
-
The problem Brotha is that no matter how obvious it is, not everybody sees it that way. I've already said in this thread that they should be un-capturable bases in TT/FT....... And somebody had to bring up what HTC says about it..... That person, IMHO, is one of the peeps that simply don't care about the good those bases have to offer us. SO I'll say it again, next map with a TT, they should be un-Cap bases.

I've always thought that TT/FT designs should have at least 1 uncapturable base for each country. That would make it impossible for a group of indivduals to sweep TT/FT to deny one or both opposing sides a TT/FT base. If you left one base uncapturable, bases could be captured but TT/FT fun could still be had by all.
