Yes many times you can see all the old B52's chopped up in rows  :frown: & all the other aircraft wrapped up in white plastic.

Am I the only one that gets kinda sad when I look at the boneyard? Such a shame to have these beauties laying there to go to waste. I am happy however when they do restore or use parts from them.

If I was 10 years old and had a choice to go to either 'Disney World' or the 'Boneyard'...  'Boneyard' would win hands down...

The google earth shots of the boneyard are very out of date. I happen to be living within 100 yards of part of the boneyard right now. In the RV camp at Davis - Monthan AFB. There happens to be a bunch of B52's right across the fence right now. There is even one of them that still has the stinger gun position in the rear. That's the first one of those I have seen here in visiting this part of the base in over 5 years. If I can find my camera I might be able to take some shots of the various parts of the boneyard but someone will have to host the pics.

The boneyard is huge and has storage for future flying use, parts retrieval and scrapping areas. There is also a civilian salvage yard across the street from the base that sells parts. Lots of partial fuselages, cockpits, engines, props and wing sections. Sad to see some of those old birds being ripped apart like that. I've noticed that A-10 wings seem to be being salvaged quite a bit. Lots of fuselages with no wings anymore in the back area.

If there are any folks from the forum here in Tucson, I could get them on base to look at the parts you can't see from the outside. A visitor pass is easy and free.

What kind of prices are these civilian scrap parts going for?

Hmm, I wonder how difficult it'd be to turn an old fighter cockpit into an uber AH simpit...

Not far from the bone yard is this.....http://www.pimaair.org

If you click on the aircraft link you can see what's there, F4U, FM2, SBD, TBM P-47, Hurricane, even an Ki-43 Oscar.

I haven't been there in 6 or 7 years. I need to get back there.

Yeah it is a sad sight but they have done their duty and what they were made to do.. If that makes any sense.  :salute

For a minute I thought it might have been a NASA ER-2 but the wings are not the right shape. Then I got to thinking that the two below are B-57 Canberra's and did some looking around.

I think it might be a WB-57 based on the wing shape and the curvature of the tips on the leading edge.

Yes definitely a WB57 below and to the right you can see a B57 with the normal wings. Actually NASA still use two WB57s. So that one in the picture might be a spares source, the engines seem to be missing.

Yep on the WB-57 it is a high alt weather aircraft(or was), but the F-111's in the pucture got me all misty eyed....... :cry

Gotta agree with ya Phaser. Those F4 Phantoms in there were what I grew up watching burn big holes in the sky above and around my house in the valley's of Central Alabama. It was one of the coolest things to see when one came up the little valley about 100 fee over the trees thundering down through the area. The whole house would shake and then it would be so quiet because all the stuff around had just stopped.

I also watched one shear the wingtips off by clipping some pine trees running a NOE training run back in 1989 (I think) and it wasn't pretty because neither guy made it out of the bird before it made a fireball on the side of the hill.

WB or RB?

Yeah same as me, I was looking at it for a while thinking it looked like a canberra with longer wings.
