Title: .wingman that works the same way a check 6 does
Post by: sheperd on March 08, 2010, 06:51:04 AM
I would like to see the .wingman (callsign) that can be selected like a  "check 6".
the ability to scroll through your flight group or area and select your wingman would be awesome. Very usefull if 2 people lost their wingman they could wing up while in combat without having to look at the keyboard.

good idea, would be very usefull

321Bar, what he is asking for is, just like the check 6 button, a button to press that cycles through the friendly icons in range and selects your wingman.

rather then having to type .wingman name you select and highlight your wingman the same way as you do a "check 6"

edit. exactly  Mechanic

Question...where would this be useful outside of special events or winging with your squadmates, or maybe a buddy? Are you wanting to just randomly choose someone on your side within viewing distance to be your wingman or something like a join request?

it doesn't matter it would work anywhere the .wingman command would work just makes it so you can choose 1 or change 1 with out stopping in combat to type.

Edit ***I will humor you****
you're in the main arena, all your squad went to bed but you decided to stay on, so you go it alone.
All of a suddon a squad crosses your flight path and is 1 short and ask if you would like to link up with them.
as You agree, Over the vox channel they ask you to wing up with "WOLFMAN" as you agree to cover his wing, a massive furrball starts. You quickly type   /.wingman wolfman ...no pilot found ...later you find out his callsign is wulfman but you didn't have a chance to see him visually and now that its on you don't have time to pick him out of the mix to verify his callsign spelling
because he is dead as he had no wingman to cover his 6     LOL
you might have even had the chance to send him a check 6 but you were busy typing the wrong name. I know this is kinda far out there, but you should be able to see the benefits of this regardless of the sit.

NO disrespect intended

Ah gotcha, never considered it since I never run into that problem...could be useful. +1

Or, since you need to open the text buffer to highlight your wingman with the existing .wingman command anyway, you could look on the "who's on range" box to get the proper spelling, as, hopefully, your future wingman is at least nearby.

wrongway

never thought of that  :aok but it won't help me much ...I cant type worth a $**t :headscratch: Typing wasn't a req when I was in school 100 years ago...I like the check 6 idea just to maintain sit awareness

I think it would be unnecessary

I find it strange that some pilots wouldn't embrace this Idea.  :headscratch:
The implementation of this would be so easy as the programing is already written for the check 6.
It would be just a small tweak to highlight a plane rather then play a Wave file to the selected pilot. :noid
