Title: Think damaged is fubared somewhere
Post by: TW9 on March 27, 2010, 07:56:25 PM
Intentionally was trying to ram bombers as they took off since i was out of ammo. I cut across one with my right wing hanging down across the bombers from 3 to 9  clock. So basically my right wing is down and left wing up. THe only part of my plane that made contact with the bomber was my right wing. Oddly, i only took damage to my left aileron  :huh

Although it wasn't intentional.  I had the same thing happen when collided my Typhoon with Lancasters.  It looked to clip one wing but the other was missing.  I didn't have a chance to see if it correctly corresponded with the damage report.

This would seem to go back to the whole, old collision model arguement.  You have to ask where was your aircraft in relation to his on HIS front end.

...I guess.

Wrong thread, wrongway :)

He's saying he rammed with his "right wing" and he connected and took damage, but the damage was applied to his "left aileron"

That he tried this was silly given the different front ends of different players. Little to no chance he'll do anything but auger...

But the issue was which side the damage mapped to.

My theory is it looked like he rammed with his right wing on his end but on the bomber's end, they were higher (speculating here), and his left wing actually hit.

The same kind of thing where there is a "collision" and only one aircraft is damaged because there was only a "collision" on one front end, only taken to the next level.

What damage did the bombers take?

That shouldn't matter based off my understanding of how the collision model works.  What you see is what you get.  If he saw one wing collide and the other got damaged, that is not right.

considering that damage u recieve during a collision should go by what u see if ur the one that recieved the message then what u see is all that matters. btw i doubt the bombers would have seen the exact opposite of what i saw.

Grizz got it :)

You don't ram into the enemy on their front end. You only ever ram the enemy on your front end. If you connect on the other guy's front end HE takes the damage, not you. You would most likely see yourself going past without connecting.

TW9: the way this game works, and all internet games, you can have folks' positions be WAY off....

Essentially you're just intentionally augering and giving the bomber a free proxy if you try and ram him intentionally. He's already in front of the position he shows on YOUR screen, and you won't cause HIM any damage, just yourself.

Throwing away yer planes by doing that.

i think if i cared much about my plane i wouldnt have been doing it. i was out of ammo and just messing around. happened to come across something that was out of whack. regardless of how game works theres no way on anyones fe that me left wing would hit the bombers. but anyways thanks for the overanalization. much appreciated  :aok

Over analized Krusty???  Opposite of anal retentive??  Just kidding..... I got it (clever)  :x

Not sure where I fit in that scheme  :D  I enjoyed the online front end, course.   Makes sense to me (someone who has never gotten the MS email pop up to work).

The best way to imagine how the collision model works is to forget that you're playing an online game. In all honesty (and some of HT's own words), everyone might as well be playing the game by themselves with how much everyone's picture of the world is different from everyone else's.

So, you're sitting here watching your plane from F3 view. Your right wing sinks through an enemy plane. You have collided, and you take some form of damage (if that's being assessed correctly is what this thread is about :)).

The other guy, playing his "standalone" game, watches you go whizzing over top of him by 200 yards. He obviously didn't hit anything, so he gets as much damage as he would if he were in a real plane (zero).

That's the part the people who cry about "everyone should be damaged in a collision" don't understand; everyone who was actually involved in a (not the) collision of any sort takes damage, so they already have what they're crying for. :)

dont think anyone is crying about anything in this thread  :huh.

anyways i'd put 100 dollars that anyone  in the area including the bombers who had film at the time would not have seen my left wing touch the bombers lol. I'll have to post the film I guess.

I've seen it many times,  see a plane pass me on the right and my left wing falls off and even funnier is when the wings stay but then my tail falls off.  I think its someobody's dark humor  :D.

Similar event happened to me when I merged with a 109G14.  On the merge, I broke left and the 109G14 broke left.  I got a message that I had collided and my lLeft wing was broken off.  Since we both broke to our left, I believe it was impossible to my left wing to have collided with him.
