this was Russia's only 4-engined bomber (besides their copy of the B-29) in the war. it was designed for high-altitude, long-range sorties to Berlin. numerous engine problems plagued this bomber though, it was very under powered and very unreliable, but improvements were seen after fitting the M-82 engines in. saw service in numerous raids deep in German occupied territory from 1940-the end of the war. this would be good in the "nice to have" category IMO.
specs:
max speed@ 20,000 ft: 275 mph
service ceiling: 9500 meters
powerplant: 4x M-82 inline engines at 1700 hp each (post-1942 version)
max bomb load: 4000 kg.
defensive armament: 2x 7.62mm MG's in the nose, 2x 12.7mm MG's under the wings (kind of an interesting placement), 1x 20mm cannon in dorsal turret and 1x 20mm turret in tail (yes, the crappy Russian ShVAK cannons)

says the guy who sends in 30+ B5N's on one mission :rofl
but i agree, i love flying the lower-end planes :)

+1, this plane looks pretty sweet, and its bombload would make a nice companion to the Lancaster.
-
Isn't in my priority list but should be nice to have another heavy bomber that isn't from EU/England, and looks cool.
+2 :salute

+1 I want that bomber. another plane for me to blast bases in

Has almost no place in the war. Was a VIP transport, that's its claim to fame.

LOL...here we go again....it does fit the criteria for inclusion Krusty.
-
Sure... The criteria are not very demanding.
Read up on it. Seriously, the Soviets barely used the things. They did NOT have a big heavy bomber fleet, and they did NOT do carpet bombing like the US and Britain did. Folks keep requesting it because they think it's big therefore important, but the opposite is true. The Fw200 condor was more important to the war than this plane was. It had longer range, too. It even carried bombs! Zomgbbq!
*insert old rolleyes here*

Krusty is exaggerating a bit, but is essentially correct. The Pe-8 played a very minor roll in WWII.
The Russian bombers we should be asking for are the SB-2, Il-4, Pe-2 and Tu-2.
-
The He-111 was also a transport that was converted for bomber use but yet everyone begs for it.
However, in the scope of things I do agree that the Tu-2 would probably be a better bomber to add in. I like flying big heavy bombers and the Pe-8 with its armament would be a GREAT MA bomber, but in the end, the time to model it would equal that of 2 medium bombers.

"The He-111 was also a transport that was converted for bomber use".
'Twas the other way round, dear feller: it was a bomber poorly disguised as a civilian transport. On the other hand, the Dornier Do17 started life as a slimline mailplane with room for a very few passengers who had to perform contortions to take their seats; unsurprisingly Lufthansa rejected it but the new Luftwaffe found a use for a development of it as a recce-bomber.

Please, Beefcake, the He-111 was the main Luftwaffe bomber for in Early War, BoB and Barbarossa, and more! We don't beg it because of it's looks or performances, we beg for it because it is as basic in a WW2 game like the Spitfite or the 109!
I also agree that the Pe-8 is not worth modelling. This was a total flop at the time and didn't had a significant role during the war. There are other soviet bombers that had a real role in the war and should be represented in AH. The Tupolev and the Pe-2 come to mind. Never before the 111, the Betty and the SM-79, please.
Cheers,

would love to have this plane +2

The Pe-2 or Tu-2 would be a more logical choice. The Soviets had far more of them and they made a much larger impact on the war.
