Title: Mosquito skin substitutions
Post by: Greebo on April 30, 2010, 06:38:47 PM
Lyric has asked me if I could skin an all black Mosquito Mk II for him. I thought I'd better ask Pyro what it was an acceptable substitution on the Mk VI shape. Basically you can skin the Mk II and the Tse Tse Mossie, as well as the various Aussie and Canadian built fighter bomber marks that are equivalent to the Mk VI. However the later night fighters which had radome noses instead of the 303s are not acceptable.

Well not for me as it is not an Australian mossie as any RAAF skins come available I always use them no matter what. I know a number of people like black aircraft hence why I have so many prospects of them & a few of them are in the game that I gave to skinners.

Do all skins have to be from the Mk VI?  These all are FB Mk VI

Greebo,

When the Tempest is redone, can you please use a paint scheme with invasion stripes, cheers. :aok

Oakranger, skins can either be a Mk VI or one of the other variants I mentioned in the first post.

Kazaa, there is no guarantee I will be skinning the Tempest. Waffle, Superfly or one of the other skinner team guys may skin it. However if I do, I'd like to avoid the lower half D Day stripes I used on the Typhoon so I can make it visually different. So it would either be no stripes or full stripes. It would be handy to be able to spot Tempests more easily in the MA, so if HTC had no objection I could do a full stripe scheme no problem.

Full stripes are always the best kind. That sounds awesome! :O :O :O

The only other scheme that would stand out more than full stripes would be bare metal. It would also be even more so awesome as the default skin. That's if Tempest came in bare metal.

Y'know, I was never sure if it was supposed to be white or silver dope paint.

It is silver, the first Mossies deployed in the Far East tended to disintegrate because the heat and humidity affected their construction. So they painted them silver to reflect the sun. The old AH Mosquito did not have the benefit of material files, so you couldn't make it look shiny. The new one should look a lot better with this scheme.

As soon as they remove the exhaust dampers someone wants a night fighter scheme.

Looks like it was being repainted for restoration or something...and that was the bomber variant.

The American one is a PR.Mk XVI, note the two stage Merlins.

No can do.  It was an unarmed photo-recon Mossie.  Even if they add the B.M XVI it wouldn't be appropriate.

Here's a hint... If it's got a white roundel with a blue star of David in it, it's Israeli. Post war. Israel didn't exist until after WW2, just FYI.

I think he was suggesting that W4050, the Mosquito prototype he posted a photo of on the prior page, was in those colors.....

The "143 Sqn, Banff Strike Wing, RAF, NE-L" and White-3 of "1672 CU, RAF, India, 1944" look real great!

I've decided to skin 143 squadron's "NE-A" as I have some really good photos of it.

Jumpin' Catfish!!!

I look away for a bit and someone pulls a new Mossie out of thin air! And did I hear something about a new Tempest model too?

I respectfully call dibs on a 418 RCAF skin for the new Mossie (edit: as long as Kev367th doesn't want to redo his existing 418 skin for the new model). Be still my beating Canuck heart... and although there wasn't an RCAF Tempest squadron, a few Canadians did fly them with the RAF... off to ye olde reference material bookshelf...

Good to see you back Jocko! Coming down to Wings and Wheels in Toronto by chance? Lots of canuck-aircraft enthusiasts there.

He will be the guy wearing hot pink tights, leg warmers and some kind of t-shirt that is 3 sizes to big.  Is that what you will wear during FSO, Jocko?

Oak, we all know that you're the most 'stylish' of all the Slybirds. Whether it's the black patent leather thong or the Hello Kitty nipple tassels, we just can't keep up... Sgt Pappy look for the nerd in the black Flight Ontario shirt and the RCAF logo cap :)
