Hey guys, we need some help testing some issues that we can't duplicate in house. Anybody is welcome to run this test version and make sure everything works for them but we are particularly looking for people who've had problems in the earlier patch versions of 2.19. Specifically, we're looking for people who had the following problems:
1- Losing the mouse cursor at the windowed main screen when quitting.
2- Getting stuck hold down keys or joystick buttons like an up view or a fire button.
3- Any general sound issues in any of the previous versions shipping with the Miles system.
There is also a new sound configuration in the options menu that lets you map different classes of sounds to different devices. I.E. you can have voice go to your headset and other sounds through your speakers. This just needs some general testing to make sure it's working as intended on different systems and configurations.
You can run this test version online. This will not replace your current Aces High installation so if you have a problem with it you can go back to running the regular release.
Instructions:
1- Download BOTH of these files to your Aces High folder.
http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/htsim8r.exe
http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/thtdlg.res
2- Run the file htsim8r.exe from your Aces High folder. Create a shortcut if you want but make sure you run this file out of your Aces High folder. If you run it from somewhere else it won't work.
3- Report bugs or if any of the above listed bugs you had before are now absent with this test version. Please report back to us in this thread.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Will do. :salute

<S> Pyro
I'll followup with any issues in this thread.
-
I have the mouse cursor problem on my computer at work. I will test it on Monday if we're not busy.
-
3- Any general sound issues in any of the previous versions shipping with the Miles system.
I would say the 'nurfed' VOX audio quality of the familiar voices and sounds we all are personally familiar with was my only (and the general) issue I had with the Miles system. Is there an online test arena available so that the VOX audio issues most of us were vocally negative about in the previous implementations can be tested (or any other means available in offline mode to test the received VOX audio quality on our end)?
-
I'm still testing it, but right off the bat the windows features in the upper right hand corner are cut off and only showing half the buttons (minimize, restore, close).
I am running at 1920x1200 res.
-
Also, the sound settings are not being saved for me after I change them in AH. I have a X-Fi and switched over to that from the 'primary sound driver'. When I return to the menu, it says 'primary sound driver' again as if I didn't change any settings.
I figured maybe I need to re-log to have the setting changed and the game crashed as I did.
edit: the game crashes whenever I log out from an arena, regardless if I make changes or not.
-
Also, if I change the sound settings between speakers or headset on the left of the audio options, I lose the functions of all but the one I am selecting.
-
Lastly, I can't find the individual sound controls for the different sounds in AH. For example, my engine is so loud that I can't hear anything else including my own guns firing.
-
Del,
I believe that HTC might be moving away from individual sound controls like we have now, to a more simplified setup.

I don't like the sound of that (pun intended). I love the way we can make certain sounds much quieter. Maybe having the engine blasting in your ear at 140db is realistic, but not exactly fun.
A big -1 for losing individual sound volume control.

Same troubles. I got it to work once but it reverted when I tried to change volumes in there. From the little I tested: The vox sounds like it always has and the game was able to send game sounds to speakers while vox went to headset, so to being able to do it and HTC working on it means I'm happy. :D

Agreed... I can't play test in actual AH flight because it is so overpowering.
-
I'll tell you right now i have the button problem.Every time i zoom with a button on my joystick it doesn't do it smoothly it juts in and out in succession and then zooms.
The biggest problem is when i look up...it just kinda stays there and doesnt go back down this is VERY annoying.
-
Guys reporting major problems be sure to submit a DXDIAG too so HTCs know exactly what settup your using and getting trouble with. They're asking for help from the community in testing this because they can't reproduce the problems you're experiencing on any in-house settup they have.

I know from working with some of the custom sound packs, that some of the recording levels are very high. If it's really bad, you might try renaming your sounds folder to "custom sounds" that way when you're testing you will get the default sounds.
Just my opinion but, if going to a simplified sound control panel helps clean up the game (on the programing side) , and makes it easier for HTC to move ahead with adding new features, it may be worth it.
-
I have all of the same problems that Del reported, except the crash issue, I haven't logged out yet. Also, I liked the idea of changing the volume on individual sounds.

I like the ability of being able to disable certain sounds or adjusting each sound individually, don't like not having that option.

1- Losing the mouse cursor at the windowed main screen when quitting
Had that happen last patch. Few weeks ago got the aceshigh.exe stop working. Well i redownloaded lost my settings doh, but game is fine now. Have noticed frame rates tad low. Glad to see I wasn't the only one losing that dang mouse! :D

Ivn, I've found it's a good idea to make a copy of your settings. Saves a lot of headaches.

I hate loosing functionality as well Ack-Ack, but if it comes down to a decision to keep the current sound system (that limits further game development) or have a better sound system (that supports much higher quality sound files) with limited individual sound control, I'd rather have the new system.
Now keep in mind, this is all conjecture on my part. HTC may be able to fully implement the new sound system and retain the current volume options. I'm just saying I'd rather make the jump if it allows the continued development of Aces High by rationalizing the various sound modules into one system.

yet its one of the worst ways to game the game.
For example in a GV turning your interior sounds down and the exterior sounds up.
You should never be able to hear another plane/vehicle better then you can hear your own.
If the fiddle witha simplified system. they IMO should simply tie internal and external sounds together so you cant turn one up or down without effecting the other.
As for the OP To get back on topic
I'll run the tests tomorrow
-
Love the idea of getting rid of adjustable sounds, made gaming the game even easier when you could crank certain sounds up and others to near nothing.
That aside, not sure if it's a glitch or not but I couldn't seem to hear rockets launching off of other planes.
-
Hey let's move sound design discussion over to a new thread. It's going to make things a lot more difficult for us if we're trying to sort and reference back through a 20+ page thread where most of the posts aren't even about test results and bugs. A fine discussion to have but it needs its own thread.

Hello Pyro!
As requested, downloaded and installed the files and tested the game online. My report:
- No problem whatsoever with mouse, selecting another arena or leaving the game; no freeze, locked mouse or need to Alt+F4 to resume control of user interface... My problem is solved.
Note: keep having a Low Virtual Memory message with this special version. This happened on the previous versions with the problem too.
- Regarding sounds: I'm not a sound specialist and not a very technically savvy user. I found so many options and different things that all I did was tune down the Effects slider! I was going deaf with the engine noise! During play, I could hear better than before the sound of surrounding aicrafts. In tower, I had the feeling that the engine sounds were more definite and clear and the doppler effect was better. Voice comms worked, although I could not understand what one player was saying... I don't know if it was him, or his system, sounded quite metallic, like inside a box... They all said they could hear me 5 by 5... I need to hear someone I already know to be sure.
What do I do now? Delete these files? Want me to try anything else?
-
I had the "mouse pointer lost on exit" issue, but your new patch seems to have eliminated it completely. Here's my dxdiag info:

Its back
-
When tuning to myself, I noticed a voice stutter. It started to play, paused, and then played back the whole vox test.
I've stopped using the test routine, but not because of sound quality.
-
Could you make this a temporary sticky thread, so as not to get lost?
X-52 throttle using Saitek software version 6.6.6.9 utilizing mouse feature left button does not work, nor does it work on main mouse.
-
Ok ran the test.
Observations
Everything seemed to run fine with two minor exceptions.
After playing with the sound settings (agree, Engines are way too loud) the master volume slider doesnt seem to do anything at all.
With engine sounds turned down to a tolerable level, I can no longer hear the engine starting in a GV
Occasionally, when deploying flaps the sound will alternate from very soft to much louder. "pvvt, pvvvt. PVVT, pvvt"
Other notables.
Vox sounds...different. Wish I could giver a better description. When first entering the game some vox transmissions sounded kinda garbled. But this seemed to clear up after a minute or two.
Sounds settings observation & opinion.
While the original setting perhaps give too much freedom. Newer setting give perhaps too little. While I'd like to see the internal/external engine sounds to be tied together Some of the other sounds either need to be calibrated better to fit in with the other sounds or would like to see more individual control over, (flaps, gear)
Im hearing ricochets on vehicles in an AC from quite a ways out. I noticed this while shooting at an osti from the tail gunners position in a B25
When passing an air raid siren the sound turns a bit bizarre for a second. But nothing intolerable.
Overall the game itself ran fine. Course I havent tried switching back yet LOL
-
I don't like the sound of that (pun intended). I love the way we can make certain sounds much quieter. Maybe having the engine blasting in your ear at 140db is realistic, but not exactly fun.
A big -1 for losing individual sound volume control.
Agree wish I could decrease CA gun sounds.
