The tank fight at A1 is great, but the map does indeed suck.

Ha.  The requests for this map to be returned to the rotation piled up to the high heavens a couple of years ago.   :lol

Ironically, the map is only fun after one country gets steamrolled a bit.  Having 20k mountains on the front lines is frustrating.

Once upon a time, this was one of the most fun maps we had...

... but that was back when the Tank Town concept was still working  :cry

(For the young ones: At any given time you could expect 50% of arena population slugging it out in tanks at the center. Great & fast paced action. I learned tanking there)

Yup. Why did it actually die? Never figured that out...that map and ndisles. I miss donut and that map with the 10K base in the middle.

Terrain design killed it off.

First of all, all big maps were gone for a year or so, leaving only Ndisles as a true Tank Town map.
The center town was enlarged, second step the spawns were tripled and pulled back to make spawn camping more difficult. But at the same time it made getting into action quick more difficult. But TT was still working...

... and then came the hedges. And within weeks the player numbers in GVs in TT (which had been stable for years) plummeted. Long way to get into action combined with a terrain largely unsuited to tank combat killed it off.

And with a relatively high player fluctuation, it needs only a year or so until things are getting largely forgotten by  the collective memory. When Trinity finally came back, I thought "WOOOT, Tank Town!" and immediately spawned there. Unfortunately only a few other players had the same thought, and basically all of them were old-timers. But we were  not enough to get any good action going again. The concept of TT has simply been lost.

Does anyone know if any new maps for the MA are being added or created?

Dare I say it I think the oldest TT, 2 graphics updates ago (with the 2d canopy trees), was the best. It was simple and fun. Yes you get spawn camped but that's half the fun, breaking the camp.

With the newer TT came those cement pillars to stop tanks (basically filtering them into TT) and like you mentioned, hedges, just sort of made it all less and less fun.

(Talking about ndisles here)

I never have been much of a tank guy but I used to like to pop into TT every now and then and mix it up.  It really was fun.  I don't understand why they haven't made terrain adjustments to bring it back.

They did - it's not that bad anymore as before, we have less hedges now.
But like I said, the concept has been lost along with the player fluctuation - the majority of players now in AH has never experienced that kind of stuff. They can't remember.. Why should they spawn into a basically empty (= no base to capture) area on map?

RIP TT.  May you find your rest next to the massive 6 hour long furballs...  :cry

Here's the solution to this dilema:

Lower the hight of the mountians to a reasonable 7k, or remove all double spawns at V bases in the mountians, so that GV's can do something without getting bombed or camped (the TT in Trinity rarely sees any action).

The 20k mountains and high alt bases discourage the 50 NOE smash grab greifers from rolling the map. The idea is great, but trinity frustrates me when Im having a bad day and it takes forever to get back into the action

I definitely miss NDisles, that was a FAVORITE of mine, I could tank fight for hours. Same deal with the Donut map, loved the dog fights in that one as well.

Yes it was and had a great time in TT... Problem is its hit or miss if anything is going on in TT.

Problem with NDisles is the TT is seen as up for grabs by the "win teh warz!!!!" crowd. They see it as a jump off point for taking the islands surrounding it. That means they think "hey, our GV guys are making a push. Lets go help them out by boming".

The Trinity TT sees so little use because the distances are a bit to far. It takes a good 10 mins to get to a base, 15 for the further ones without spawns.

Spawns had always been that way on Trinity, but the center was crowded with GVs slugging it out.

Not "recently" - see my posts above about tank town evolution.

Ah, I see now.

I personally believe TT is gone, perhaps never to return. It has been replaced with V85 in the compello map, and the NDisles TT (you get bomb****s and campers like fleas on a dog. Plus one side alwasys ends up being kicked back *cough* bishops *cough*, and so the map is usually relatively short lived).

I would like to see a short spawns like V-88 to V-85 and V-76 to V-85 on every map. Even the old tank town was a pretty short drive to get into action. If your spawn was camped it still was not that bad because we had a few small hills you would spawn behind. I liked to spawn in and start shooting without starting your motor sometimes. GV drives are to long to get into action on about every map. It seems tanking has been made harder and harder and folks have lost interest. I would like to see the old tank town back too.

As for bomb tards killing you at the spawn. Just take 15 minutes of your time when you first get on to go pork the ords at the air base they are operating from. If they resupply it pork them again and they well lose interest. The fact that they are bombing tanks that can't really fight back says they are lazy and only looking for an easy way to pad there score without being in jeopardy of being killed them selves. So they ain't going to spend time in an M-3 resupplying bases and will move on to some other safe no skill enterprise.

well that would mean there friends might... OMG I'm going to say this "DIE" to a Tank, when i see a Wirble or Osti i tend not to hang around them while in the Air, but on the ground they make a easy meal for a Tank so maybe that's why people don't up them to provide air cover for there Tankers,  i think way to many people worry to much about score/rank to really get into this games potential
