Title: Interesting 152
Post by: kilo2 on June 28, 2010, 06:59:10 PM
I just got a new book :x
It is The Focke-Wulf Ta-152 by Thomas H. Hitchcock

Great book but it contains a skin profile of an all orange-red Ta-152 H-0 that took a 25 minute armed flight from one field to another. The book has a picture of the signed letter of the pilot and his wingman saying this did take place. Would we be able to get the skin in game?

Been covered here countless times.

Jerry Crandall has been quoted saying that he believes this plane never saw combat while in the red/orange scheme.

ah well, I heard there were other skins that didn't see "combat".

The book is awesome though really a fun read so far.

Something about a hoard of flying Cheetos that makes me cringe. :)

I bought both volumes, but not the signed ones.. I can't stop looking at them whenever I pull them out.  Simply the best aviation reference books every published IMHO.

I'm a sucker for that kind of purchase. I'll go nuts if I know I could have bought the 'next level'.

You mean the two Dora volumes? I agree, absolutely fantastic.

<snicker>  Ja.

Anywho... I would argue that any flights in late March of '45, between Stendal and Rechlin constitutes a combat flight.  That Dora wasn't along just for the ride.

In fact, the bulk of JG11's Ta152's were lost in just such a manner.  Not a test flight, but rather a ferry flight, from Rechlin to Leck.

If you got that number I think they will do a second edition of this book :aok A few extra marks in it for Mr Reschke.

Does anyone know where one can find some details on the Ta 152's that JG11 flew? None of the books I've read seem to go any further than saying that JG11 flew some to Leck.

This posted at LEMB...

As far as is known, Stab/JG11 took over four Ta152H's. Two were shot down by Spitfires during the ferry flight from Neustadt-Glewe to Leck and one crash-landed at Leck, leaving only one survivor, probably WNr.150010 of Lt. Mehling.
...says more than any book I have. I don't know how accurate it is though.

That is accurate.

One must cross reference several sources to piece it all together Kooler, including pilot logs and memoirs.

Not much on details, but the surviving Build Sheet from Cottbus clearly denotes some of the a/c assigned to JG11.  I can post up that sheet for you if you wish.

I have the Werknummer List of production aircraft Built at Cottbus in Hermann's and Hitchcock's books, if that's what you are referring to, Stampf. If you mean the original then I'd love to see it if you have it handy. :)

The two JG11 planes the list mentions is 150009 and 150010, like Fencer said in his post from the first link.

Same one.  Wish I had more for ya.  Always digging, and bugging folks though, so hopefully one day will have a bigger picture on the Stab 11 rides.

This thing looks awsome.

I hope it can be skinned. Technically it was in the combat zone and it was in a technical combat sortie.

I'd fly the Ta-152 exclusively for a tour if this was to be a skin available.
