That could have a pretty profound effect on tanking, if there's auto artillery. It would still be neat if it had to be manned too.

The suggestion for a playable troop, as rudimentary as it may end up in game ,would be nice.
Still think ww2online needs to give up, give HTC their tank/ground setup , incorporate it into the flight portion of this game and call it a winnar!

I can't wait to go for a spin round town in a jeep, funnily enough want to sweep low through an enemy town see how deadly it is (for a sleepy looking town anyhows)

Are you sure you don't want to put up a Small Europe arena with 16 color 2D terrain, flat blue water and only 6 airplanes that all players who have been in the game less than 5 years get banished to for a week when ever they whine about you not focusing on updating what THEY FEEL is important? Sir these screen shots are the equivilent of a plastic tricycle versus a ferrari for anyone who remembers AW 1990. Back then we thought AW was pretty cutting edge...... :joystick:

It's the same layout with different buildings. At least the ammo bunkers (with peaked roofs) seem to be in the same relation to the fuel bunker in the screen shot IIRC.

I see what you're saying but if that's a small airfield then the fighter and bomber hangers look like they have moved to me.
Assuming it's a small airfield, and the view is looking west, I think the layout is different then this;

Love the way it looks! And from what I can tell... it appears the approaches into the towns are choke points now! :aok Much harder to get attackers in, and much easier for a defender in the right spot to ambush incoming ground vehicles. Hope it turns out that way.
Oh... just wondering... is that MEGA HANGAR an indestructible? Or is that a bomber hangar? If its a BH, its gonna be hard to fly through it with the doors closed :huh

Good call, I too think it appears to be the 17 lb'er AT gun. It will be (or could/should be) a terror to gv's unlike the manned ack is to aircraft.
Click the link below, then click the British flag, then click ""Artillery", then click on the 17 lb'er icon. Lots of info and even a very good picture to compare it with the HTC teaser. Supposedly, 10 to 12 rounds a minute is optimal (1 round every 5-6 seconds). Hopefully, it wont be as easy to destroy as an auto ack or manned ack. Heck, we dont even know if we can man the things, yet. ;)

It also depends if they will put some of those AT guns on the base itself. The ones in town should stay auto in my opinion. As for the ones on a base, it would be real nice to be able to man a couple of them. If they are not going to add AT guns to the bases, then I would agree on allowing some of the ones in town to be mannable.
I also noticed the changes to the buildings on an airfield. I wonder if it's going to vary with the size of the field. The small field can have the current hanger set up we are using, minus a couple of changes, mediums would have the new hangers for the large pad, and current for small? Then we have the large fields, which would also have a mix of both? The huge dar antenna comes from our current dar factory if you look carefully, and would fit on the large fields nicely. The small fields and V bases could keep the current antenna? :headscratch:
That very large hanger, looks a little like a Zeppelin Hanger..... :noid
I wonder if they will be updating the Hull Down spots on the V bases as well. If everyone notices, there are none for defending the back of a V base. The ones that are towards the back, leave either your flank or your arse exposed. :headscratch:

looks good but after being online to close over 10 yrs this game should be more far advanced then it is today especially with the fee we pay each month to play here come on people the maps are the same as Day 1 to keep people here ya need to change the maps and make it harder for base capture. Ya i pay to play here but use the game to get rid of alot of stress from work but still the Game could of had alot more features added by now and alls we hear are lame arse excuse's why it takes time to get more things done!!!!!!!!!

Dont forget that HTC must make the game scalable for those people who have low end machines. Some folks simply dont have the money to invest in a gaming rig, thus having to run minimum graphics settings. As such, HTC chose to keep the game sub par in system requirements to keep those certain customers playing. It is how HTC makes money, and continually updates the game. Money for HTC = more development for the game.

We have PTO maps? I thought they were just maps with lots of water and lots of islands, like the Carribean or the Baltic.

Just a disclaimer:
Many said the same thing before hedgerows were introduced. Then, Tank Town died because people could no longer snipe from 6k away as they used to be able to.

If the buildings in the airfield towns could be made into different looking towns and village groups but without the strat associations or any flak these could add some visual interest to the large featureless areas between the fields and strat. Also they could be inserted between spawn points and fields to give a more built up area for GVs to fight through. You could also have bridges, partly sunken ships, bombed out factories and so on.

Speaking of object, what is the object mean on a plane? Don't mean to hijack, just curious. I do like Greebo's idea. Think they need minor rivers that would run through certain towns, so you could utilise PT boats a bit more. Would have a bridge in town over the river for the GVrs. Could be saboutaged by your own side maybe to prevent GV crossings. Sorry, just thinking out loud here. :salute

One doesn't have a CV element and has lots of bombable(?) strat targets, the other goes crazy on the CV portion with some large (5 sectors)distance between groups of bases to encourage "island hopping" and true CV warfare.
Is that the way it is engineered now because it seems those elements are missing.
The new scenery really has a Northern France/Ardennes feel about it.
Another addition could be to utilise the "city" landscape (without the evil AA) and have a couple of capturable(?) airfields through them closer to the front lines.
I bet the GVers would froth approaching airfields around city streets to get to a map room and most of the German airfields in occupied France were near large towns anyway.
It seems all the elements are in place, it's just a matter of placement.

Speaking of object, what is the object mean on a plane? Don't mean to hijack, just curious. I do like Greebo's idea. Think they need minor rivers that would run through certain towns, so you could utilise PT boats a bit more. Would have a bridge in town over the river for the GVrs. Could be saboutaged by your own side maybe to prevent GV crossings. Sorry, just thinking out loud here. :salute

There was a time when I would have agreed with you, but I spent a stint in "the other major online WWII-based sim". Even as limited as it was, and with all the flaws it had, there was something absolutely magical about having all the pieces of a real war taking place, and flying in support of a war effort that was playing out on the ground below you. If done well, it would be totally kick-butt. If done poorly, it would take away all the goodness and leave only 'blah' in it's place.
I can only pray for the former and hope against hope for the latter if something like it happens here.

The problem with this currently is that the game is not large enough to support individual first person combat. The air to air fights will dry up as a larger portion will be trying to win the war on the ground. Not good for air combat and not a large enough player population to absorb the air to air player drop offs.

It might enlarge the game bringing a new type of player in who would then be intorduced to other types of combat, GV, Fighter, bomber, ground attack and fleet actions. It would be extraodinarily tough to pull off such a thing but it also might be the most awesome multi-layered combat sim ever. The possibilities are endless. Judgeing from what Hitech said, maybe it's a dream of his also.

The new town in Aces High still wouldn't support good FPS gameplay . Firstly the graphics look pure tac-tac close up; secondly, the buildings would need to be enterable for cover; thirdly, the towns would need to have multiple different layouts so people won't get bored attacking the same layout over and over again... The list could go on.
You're all mental if you think AH2 will have an FPS aspect anytime soon.

So it would be exactly the same concept which Eve is currently implementing, sounds good. Being that I'm an experten FPS gamer I would be more than willing to alpha test your concept. that is unless you're going to create the FPS game for console(s) becasue I don't touch them.
Do you currently have enough staff to understake such a huge project? Surely you would need to take on a lot more staff to keep Aces High evolving while creating the FPS aspect of the game.

sounds kinda like an instance, except it impacts the outside world.
I don't know if I like the idea of a smaller inside game within the larger game where the inside game impacts the outside game yet the outside game cannot interact with the inside game.

I'm not trying to jump on you Yeager but consider this. I have just posted a basic thought and you are already beginning to flame it. I have learned from past experience that it is almost always better to just ship the new concepts with out telling or asking for input. The reason is some portion of players will always have a false picture in their mind or a correct picture in their mind and try to make everyone else not like the change before it is launched. It normally creates animosity before something is launched.
In some ways it is the same as "It is much easier to receive forgiveness the for permission".

I think to "flame" suggests a derogatory purpose or foul intent. I was certainly not trying to be derogatory or foul but was more interested in the thoughts of other players. I also found your posting of the idea somewhat unusual (per your link and general past experience) and thought maybe your intent was to solicit feedback. In any event I have confidence that whatever HTC does will be done well.

Yeager, I just couldn't come up with a better term then flame. I sit here thinking and still can't. Your just stating your opinion is all, and there is nothing bad about your statement. I guess "dislike of idea" may have been better term.
Also this isn't a new idea, I have been contemplating it for a few years. And have spoken of it at cons before.

Maybe he's leaning toward this....
As you bail out of your plane that you have used to so valiantly defend the base with you now get a choice.... run to the hanging and up in a brand new shiny plane (like we do now) or knowing that there will most likely be a battle near the maproom you grab your garand and run toward the maproom to make a stand there in the FPS battle.

But the defenders just recently got the edge with the longer radar and lower NOE altitude. Well, maybe they didn't get the edge but it makes it definitely easier to defend a base then before.

why not just create a basic infantryman that walks and runs, has three positions prone, kneeling and standing and operates within the basic framework of the game? spawning from inside the bunker perhaps. You could really have fun with this one. You should create a player advisory board and put me on it.
