As members of the 80th, it is our duty to familiarize ourselves with terrain above 20k. What better way to do that then in a jeep? Bugs in your teeth and the wind in your hair.
Mensa, Soulyss and I set out in strict formation as we begin our trek.

The Jeep's ability to scale steep grades is amazing. After only a matter of minutes, we are enjoying the view of our distant VBase.

We soon pass the last sign of man; a rough road just below our goal.

With the lack of oxygen, flips and tumbles are a common occurrence.

Soulyss is the first to be consumed by the mountain. This is the last we saw of him.

Mensa and I continue to push through several cloud layers.
Mensa and I share a romantic view of the valley below at over 17k.

The romance is short lived, however, for this crack would be the end of us. I fell to the right and sunk into the mountain. Mensa fell left but managed to recover. He only postponed the inevitable, as he too was consumed minutes later. 18.1K was as far as we would go.

I filmed all of this as well, it was truly an epic hours long journey.

That did not look like soulyss as there is not two motors on that crate,
 a side note  I do not see any evidence that he is in a G model jeep.
just an observation :D
best of luck,
froger

Well done gentlemen, question is did you leave a blender at the top to prove you'd been there?

Aces High version of 'Top Gear', eh? Nice one - which one of you was playing Jeremy Clarkson?

Hahaha, awesome. =)

Cactuskooler had to be Clarkson, as Clarkson is often the narrator, often does not finish first, but comes up with some BS reason he won anyway. =)
Other than claiming he won, Cactus had 2 of 3 requirements ;-)
Guess that would make Soulyss, Hammond, and Mensa, May. :lol

Was that Brokeback Mountain? :bolt:
Looks like it was a great time! :salute
-
That was a great bit of dweebery and an equally great change of pace from the usual AH dweebery.
Please note that my sorties always end the same regardless of what I'm flying or driving. :D
-
LOL that was great stuff. :aok

I had upped a goon with supplies at one point to assist...... but in true 80th tradition I failed to clear a ridge and amputated my wings and gear. The result was a tubular shape that seems to tumble down the mountain very well. Well until the tree line anyway.
-
The last two pics were great! :aok :lol
-
Man I miss the fun stuff. I love tagging along with SAPP and their crazy ways.

Epic :aok

kubelwagon and jeep races like that would be epic :cry

That last picture looks oddly familiar...

Very original! :aok

:O WTG! Congrats! :aok
Hey, how much did the Jeep do downhill? 200 mph? :D
Cheers!

I'd bet you could hit 200 if you could find a long enough hill. I was 120+ while midair in the last two pics.
What! You weren't out there winning the war!
Sure we were, mein herr! We were out to conquer the country with the best mountains. We figured we would do more harm to that country by joining them, than by fighting them.
-
Simply awesome gents :aok
My luck i would have flown by and they would still shoot me down :D
-
This reminds me of Scottie from Star Trek "I'm giving it all she's got, Cap'n!"
Not sure why though.

I see... bring 'em down from the INSIDE... I like it.

Hmmm. That hadn't occurred to me. It now makes perfect sense :)

We should plan a large expedition like this sometime. Enjoyed reading it..great pics!

How do you guys like that Jeep flight model?
-
I remember when we first got the jeeps. Can't remember who it was, but we all started running around the old TT in jeeps, hopping hills, racing, etc. It was a blast!

Here's a stoopid idea....seeing how we have the Aces High Extreme Air Races...maybe an Extreme GV race should be organized. A race that loops around 2 different base towns as an example. :x

Oh wow, I could see a jeep expedition in the SEA. No combat, just a group of players trying to reach a peak. :D

I was thinking about this while heading up the mountain. 30+ jeeps trying to reach the summit. That would be a blast!

To me it appears to be porked, looks like HiTech didn't model the CG very well on the jeep flight model and I'm sure drag isn't properly modeled as well.
ack-ack

Killshooter could be disabled and turn it into AH's version of Death Race 2000.

Who said anything about disabling it, that shot that Cactus has of us starting out I think is actually the 3rd or 4th attempt to get all three of us off the base terrain tile w/out a killshooter incident. :)

this has motivated me to do my own expedition. Where was this exactly? I wanna act like Edmund Hillary. :pray

I just went on a lone jeep expedition on Trinity map. Rolled out of V82 and headed west to find a route over the circle of mountains. Had 2 supplies with me and knew Id need em. After a long ride uphill I saw white mountains rise up in front. Looking at the map I saw a lighter shade of green and assumed it was a lower alt route so I headed for it.
Reached the heighth of the land 19,400ft at a place I dubbed Foggy Pond, its an area where a pond looking area is filled with fog. Its just north of the spawn lines from V82 headed west, near the area I drove through. Then I started down the other side.
Going up was easy. Going down I rolled countless times but somehow kept getting lucky with gravity and landed wheels down. I got caught in a weird terrain thing that acted like a black hole. I couldnt get out for 15 minutes...finally I did. I decided to drive to A138. I rolled once when I bumped a lil roll in the terrain at about 10 mph and used 1 supply. Then I made it to the VH at A138 and shut her down. Took about 1 hour 40 minutes.
Was a pretty cool adventure, that would be better with a bunch of drunk squaddies Im sure.
Thanks for the idea <S>
