What purpose does Killshooter serve? For example, today my friend lost a 262 because a friendly dove in front of him while he was lighting up a enemy plane. This resulted in the my friend getting hit by his own 30mm. Why? What purpose does this have in game? Why should my friend loose his 262 when friendlies dive in front of his guns? I am not asking for Killshooter to be turned off, I am asking for it to be removed completely. As in, if someone shoots at friendlies NOTHING happens. AT ALL.
That is all. :salute

SA
Puts a little more difficulty in hoarding and have 10 cons on 1 plane, etc. We've all kill-shot ourselves before when someone does that, and yes it's frustrating but the pros far outweigh the cons IMO.

That will never happen again.

Generally a killshot happens when two or more aircraft are shooting at the same target, i.e. the target is outnumbered. Killshooter allows for the outnumbered target to benefit from the outnumbering opponents' overzealousness at getting the kill before their comrades.
If there was no killshooter, the idiot in the back spraying away would hit his teammates in front and kill them, thereby evening the odds a bit for the target in question. But no killshooter also leads to the certainty of intentional griefing, so this is not really a desireable situation in the game.
No consequence for landing hits on a teammate (op's suggestion) means the target remains outnumbered despite the idiot in back spraying. There is absolutely no disincentive for all 8 cons behind him from unloading all their weaponry hoping theirs is the magic bb that will find the noggin. This then means the target is well and truly boofed.
Or, we have the elegant solution of the current killshooter. Idiot in back sprays, hits the teammate in front . . . and the idiot evaporates, leaving our target in a slightly better state than he was in before because now only 7 cons are chasing him instead of 8. This is the most "fair" result to target while not allowing idiot to intentionally grief his teammates.
The sad result is that occasionally it isn't your own idiocy that gets you killed, but rather poor SA or plain dumb luck. But that is a minor annoyance given the greater goals.

Wait, wait, wait.
Someone dove in front of his 262??
Really?

I'm not a big believer in harsh but this made me snicker a bit. Especially since I've been the 'id10t' once or twice.

What purpose does Killshooter serve?
The prevention of total anarchy in the main arena.

It adds a touch of realism while preventing greifing. I'm pretty sure during the war, bullets hurt friendly planes (realism 101). But then you have the problem of the internet bully.. you know, the pockmark-faced idiot who hasn't seen the light of day in 2 years, orders food in because he can't get out of the house and gets joy out of others misery online because he is totally inadequate in his/her own real life, so deep down they want to kick the bucket, yet are too afraid, so they find ways of bothering others to make themselves feel superior. Yeah, them kind of people. :rofl
So instead of bullets hurting the other guy, they found a compromise; make the bullets hurt... yourself! which is why, while not perfect, AH has one of the most stable communities that I've seen in terms of the fewest idiots successfully screwing with other people for pure, personal amusement. :aok

Do you have a picture? I have a big "owned" sign for the 262.

I'm betting the plane that swarmed in front was a Jug, those things go considerably fast while in a dive, and can easily dive onto a 262.

+954752 on this one! How many times have you been zoomed in on your sight, launching that perfect tater shot and Blammo! Junior swoops in front of you and you'r in tower going WTH just happened?? SA has nothing to do with it in a situation like that. Have it like manned guns, fire at your friends all you want and nothing happens. Maybe have the other arena with killshooter enabled, or have it in preferences (for the ones that want the added "realism") :D :neener:

Jeff Cooper was a smart guy. The 4 basic gun safety rules apply in our game as much as in the real world. In killshooter OFF events, the rules are even MORE applicable.
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
Know what it is, what is in line with it, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything you have not positively identified. Be aware of your surroundings, whether on the range or in a fight. Do not assume anything. Know what you are doing.

If killshooter was disabled there would be nothing to protect me from my squaddies! :uhoh

What I was asking for was Killshooter be disabled as to not reflect bullets. I.E. numbers guy on his two week trial comes diving in front of you when you have "the shot" on this baddie, he blocks the round, but nothing happens to you OR him.
But, you guys have shown me the "need", if you will, for killshooter. :salute

Quite refreshing to see someone willing to learn and grow rather than whine louder and stamp feet.
Happy flying. :aok

That would alter the balance, already tilted towards the attack by lag, into a wholesale slaughter of the defender.
If side A <bleeps>s up and team shoots, they SHOULD be a man down. The only two ways to accomplish this is either to have friendly fire or kill shooter. Friendly fire produces more realistic results, if it weren't for the massive greifing that would happen. That leaves only kill shooter as an option.
The oft mentioned "shoot a friendly, loose your ammo" doesn't work because the defending player isn't aware that my Mossie is suddenly toothless and I can still force him to blow energy and position by flying as though I do have ammo.
-
Killshooter is a great way of dealing with MA madness. :aok
If I had my way I'd put friendly fire on and collisions on, it would promote "coordination" prior to Jr cutting in front of "your kill" (if there is such a thing) and drastically change the face of ganging. Friendly fire damage could be evenly shared between offender and victim. Yes there would be idiots that took advantage of this but if there were a "report friendly fire" option and an automatic 200 perk point penalty for the offender who knows.

Second hand whines are so unworthy... I checked Salems score expecting to find a lost 262 but it wasnt there. Next time the actually jet flier involved needs to present himself for the whine of shame.
Carry on.

Actually, killshooter produces more realistic results, though its not realistic itself. You never want to shot down allies in RL. In game (w/o killshooter) most ppl just dont care if they hit green, even if they dont shot it on purpose.

This discussion is still going on? :headscratch:
