God help this thread. Karnak will be here soon. We already have the p51, p47 and p38. Not to mention the SBD, F4U and F6F...

For special events this would be good, but in MA we already have A LOT of aircraft that can do that job.

Not necessary at this time, but it would be a cool addition for the future.

Eventually it should be added once the glaring gaps in the plane sets have been plugged.

It was one butt ugly plane, only the tri-color paint scheme on some of them made them bearable to look at.

Would rather have a Fairy Barracuda, the British only have 2 bombers, and for the MA, it has a decent bombload for a CV launched plane

Meh.  I am tired.  10 hour day and mandatory 6 day weeks.

If they add it, maybe it will be modeled to be a handling nightmare to make you long for your old SBD-5.  Also, maybe if it is added some Japanese strike aircraft that actually entered service after Pearl might be added.

Depends which Helldiver.  The problems that plagued the earlier variants (underpowered, crappy electrical system, crappy construction, short range, crappy hydraulic system, problems with propellor) were fixed with the SB2C-4.

It would be funny to see the US get a crappy, early version of one of their aircraft for once.

I think the TBD Devastator would fit that bill.  I would say the D4Y Judy would be a fun add though.

LOL, you mean like the P40B, P39D, F4F etc?  What other early birds would there be beyond a shark fin B17, Devastator, Allison Mustang?

Come on now Karnak, your long hours are making you cranky.  You got your Mossie fixed.  What else do you need? :)

I do say it would be nice, it was faster with more of a payload than a SBD. It also had to 20mm in stead of 2 50s in a SBD. +1

I don't want to take anything from the US planeset, but.....

Imagine a B-17E instead of a B-17G.
How about a B-24D rather than a B-24J.
An SBD-3 in place of the SBD-5.
TBD-1 to fill the role of the TBM-3.

I wouldn't agree with all of those changes, but some of them are comparable to the situation that, say, some Japanese aircraft are in.

Well you know me, I prefer the early to the later.  I'm much prefer a B17E or F to the G and a B24D would be just fine :)

I'd also like a map of the Southwest Pacific covering Australia New Guiniea, Rabaul and the Solomons so we could fight that time in the war.  Give me Bettys and Oscars, the occasional Dinah for the Japanese.  I'll need my RAAF Beaufighters to go with the RAAF P40Es and Spit V

Put me at the historical base for the 80th Headhunters at that time and lets have at it.  I'd love to have a map that allowed me to see the historical terrain and to permit the most immersion flying possible.

Wonder if we could get enough guys to move into the other roles needed for A20 and B25CStrafer pilots, C47 drivers, P39s, P40s

A couple of good runs to Rabaul would be fun too.

Wonder if anyone else would want to play out that kind of tour :)

I'd say go with the Judy as it is a lot more useful scenario wise. The Helldiver has the F4U, F6F and TBM that can sub for it whereas the IJN have no late war attack aircraft. No dive bomber's going to see a lot of use in the MA, but the Judy's much higher top speed might make up for its flammability compared to the Ju 87, SBD or Val. It was very maneuverable too and might appeal to those masochists who like to up Vals as fighters.  :D

SB2C = Son of a Beech, Second Class.

And, while the dear ol' Barracuda could haul a good load, it took a l-o-n-g time to gain any altitude at maximum load. Mind you, it was gloriously ugly, especially when folded for storage, when that great RN pilot Eric 'Winkle' Brown described it as having all the appearance of having suffered a nasty accident.

Let me know if that Book is worth it please, from the Table of Contents it seems to focus too much on Yamamato and his death.

Now why I would need reference material for Rabaul...  :noid

Fencer, my heart just skipped a beat when I read that last bit, don't toy with me like that. :)

I'd actually love a good Rabaul book myself, I've been considering getting "The Siege of Rabaul" by Henry Sakaida, but it seems to focus on the time after Rabaul had ceased to be a important strategic target for the Allies, rather than look at the major battles that occurred prior.

I recall reading that the book ends after the Yamamoto mission in April, but that a second book is being worked on. I haven't read it yet though. It's still on my shelf in the "to read" section.

Or we can just add them instead of substituting them, B-17E can be in early war instead of just Ju-88s and lancs(which are a load of perks at a rip off price.) I mean some of these early models would be nice to have in the game to try out.

B-17E would be a mid-war bomber, not early war.
