I have played AH 10 years. What the hell is with people. Its game for @#^! sake. Let it go. You get another life. For a few years this game had some very class acts flying in here. I know some very good people that have been run out of this game by little peepee pilots that cant handle getting killed. There was a time when you could make a good shot and get a <S>. Now its trash talk on 200 or PM's calling you out to the DA or asking you to come back so they can find you.
I was gunning for squaddie and we were down to one plane. 109 came sliding in from lvl4 O'clock and I killed him with the waist gun. Instead of a "nice shot" or even just ignoring it, I get smack talk because " my buddie needed a gunner" and some other name calling.
People just need to suck it up. Its a game. You get another life. Learn from what you did and try to find another tactic. If getting shot down gets you that wound up that you need to name call or PM trash maybe you should go back to console gaming.
At least grow the hell up and stop PM'ing people because you got your ego rubbed in the dirt. :airplane: :salute

I always thought that when you made someone mad you win?
-
There are still "class acts" in the game. There just are. I'd say most ppl are actually. Surely every person u kill doesn't talk trash. If they do, I would love to be u cuz that would be awesome. K? K.
-
One of the more challenging aspects of the game is learning how to cope with the mental midgets that invariably grace virtual combat.
Pure entertainment.
-
PM Warriors always give me a chuckle on how it must feel like to be raised by wolves.

You say you've been here for 10 years. If so, then you should already know...
It's always been this way.
You were just able to ignore it before.
Salute!

Its the new generation. cool to be ghetto. if someone comes at u get a gun shoot them. my best friends in life are from when i beat the hell out of them and then we became friends. this generation either raised themselves or had a single mom try to make them men. and all they got were male beotches. Anyway hows everyone ;-)
-
Best way to get to someone who wants to have a PM war of words is just dont answer them, that really gets there goat :D

That works very well particularly right after...bwaahahahaha does your mother know you're on the computer?

Hilarious... I know I handle getting shot down in the mature way... I beat the hell out of my wife's Yorkie.
Seriously, I think this topic is really fun in the same way that viewing a train wreck is fun. Perhaps we could start quoting some of the squeakers?
BTW, there are still plenty of good people in the game. In another post here, I note one of the better examples. You'll just tend to notice the more grating presences. It's like Peter Horbury used to say of the Chrysler 300: "If you stand in the middle of a room playing a trumpet you'll attract people's attention - but they will soon tire of the noise."

wow, I have never been so insulted in my life, I was raised by my mom, does that make me any different then anyone else? haha if my mom didn't teach me better manors, I could walk away from this leaving you a bit more upset then I am right now

Clearly there are exceptions. My father was away a good deal of my childhood (USAF) but my family did well with my mother as the primary parent (when dad was away). Still, the comment I believe is intended for a broader consumption than you or I. It is well known that absent fathers lend heavy gravity to the difficult lives of children they abandoned, by and large. You should not be so insulted if you KNOW that quality of your own upbringing and are happy.
-
Its just a matter of keeping in mind one simple rule.
"If you just died, you made a mistake, accept it, learn from it, don't take it out on someone else.
It was after all your mistake"
All too many forget this one, get their "ego's" involved.
However there are also a lot of class acts still around.

I wouldn't take it personally. There are some sad GENERAL truths to single parenthood. They may OR MAY NOT apply to you. It is generally true that, for example, a child of a single parent is more likely to:
1. live below the poverty line
2. end up incarcerated
I'll provide you with a quoted summary from at least one scholarly article on the matter - there are many more.
As Barbara Dafoe Whitehead noted in her seminal article for The Atlantic Monthly:
The relationship [between single-parent families and crime] is so strong that controlling for family configuration erases the relationship between race and crime and between low income and crime. This conclusion shows up time and again in the literature. The nation's mayors, as well as police officers, social workers, probation officers, and court officials, consistently point to family break up as the most important source of rising rates of crime.(6)
Anyway, I wouldn't view the speaker's statement through a personal filter. People will still evaluate you as an individual at least I will. In general, my own take is that we've tried so hard to make it "okay and cool" to be a single parent that we've forgotten that it's easier/better and generally produces a better result to parent with 2.

+1 on that. I nor longer respond to trash talkers that i killed.

PM's are on 200? :headscratch:
I thought PM's were sent via Game name?
200 i believe is where people throw their toy's about.
I had a PM once stating that I was a disgrace to my squad, stating the obvious was funny :old:

I've seen people talking about snarly PMs quite a bit on this forum. At the risk of making myself a target, I can say since I've been playing this game I can probably count the number of snarly PMs I've gotten on one hand. This time around I've only been here about 6 months or so, but I played for about a 6 month stretch a year or two ago.
Are you guys commenting on them getting swamped with them? Or are you commenting on having gotten one or two of them over a period of a few weeks/months?
I find the best thing is just to let them spew their bile and either use them for your personal entertainment, or squelch them. It's about all they're good for. Depending on what happened, I take it as a compliment if something I did was good enough that they think I cheated. :lol
Online games don't have a vetting process. You don't have to be a good person to play them, and therefore you get all kinds. I think the vast majority in this game are decent folk. I also think the ones that are bad make up for their relative lack of numbers with being really bad. ;)

I'm going on 8.5 years here and have been the recipient of easily 100 PM's either by Vox or Text for shooting someone down, without provocation. I still have a screenshot of someone pm'ing me their Phone Number because they were that upset. There are quite a few folks in Aces High who have no business being on the Internet to begin with. They do not have social skills and are still scarred from the 4th grade playground spats, regardless of their advanced age.
-
I would love to have HTC let us have a special category on the BBS specially suited for those ranky PMs. (rated PG of course). I have some really funny ones specially when our squad decided to switch countries way back.
Sporting?..no. I dont believe in airing dirty laundry. Having a wall of shame you have to admit would be priceless and give everyone a nice chuckle. I cant see getting so upset over a video game.

My favorite PM of all time,
from twinboom:
"you should change your name to IHOface"
I actually laughed about it then considered changing it :P

Okay, 8 1/2 years, 100 PMs... I realize that's also probably a conservative estimate, but just for grins, that's only an average of about 1 a month or so. I'd bet the last 2 or 3 years are more 'PM dense' than previous years too. ;)
Online games are going to attract a certain number of dolts. It is the way of things. I look at it this way- They're carrying all of that around with them, and the fact that it's getting to them that badly is on them, not you.
People PMing you to critique your flying abilities is the rough equivalent of a homeless guy taking time out from yelling at the park bench to come berate you for no good reason. The bonus is, on the internet you don't have to deal with the smell.

... if you KNOW that quality of your own upbringing ...
Take it from an old man. By the time you KNOW that stuff, your hands are not steady, your vision is not clear and sitting long enough to rack kills inflames your 'rhoids.
Trust me on this. :old:

You shoot me down you'll get a <S> and a grin
I shoot you down you'll get a <S> sans grin (could be taken as rubbing it in)
If you're engaged and not being threatened I'll hover above and let you finish it off if you can. You got one on your six and can't shake him I'll try to scrape him off.
This gets me killed more often than not but it's how I play.
I've usually been able to tolerate the smack talkers because most of them amuse me that doesn't mean I want to emulate them. When it denigrates into personal attacks and profanity that's another story.

Not that I disagree with your distaste for those type of people but every post I read like this here mentions ch. 200. Why do you guys even have that on? I have never tuned it, won't ever tune it and don't care about it. Not surprisingly, I rarely get any backtalk from anybody. One guy calling me a bomb**** for killing his wirbel, that was it.
-
we still have class acts here active in the game
-
More than a few including yourself sir

Granted alot of the Pm's ingame are rather childish. However, they still pale in comparison to playing a console game online, ie. COD, Halo, etc. I always felt odd being cursed out by a kid who's stones hadn't dropped yet. In here you get the typical "blah, blah, I own you, blah, blah". Console games are much worse. I remember my younger brother (6' 1" 275lb former smalltime pro wrestler) telling me how had actually logged of CoD after a 10 year old called him names he had never heard of and actually caused him to blush in embarassment. Personally, I prefer to respond to nasty Pm's with random, extremely off the wall replies.

Ah, yes... +5 for this idea...

In the spirit of this thread I wanted to thank Fearles of Hellcat FG for his exemplary ingame behavior last night...

Punked in "the botty" with Faint Praise... Hat's on for Fearles.
Is that really how he spells it? There's a bit of a stonebutch connotation there.

I don't tune 200, but my squaddies description of his tirade after being killed by me last night was quite funny (but a perfect example of what is wrong with some folks attitudes). I just saluted him, and continued to kill more of his squaddies! :aok
