please let me know what you like or dislike about this setup. maps, settings, etc. also tell me why you liked or disliked it. thanks! :salute

The terrain is OK but, in Korea there are a lot of rolling hills and mountainous terrain; very similar to the Mid War terrain. I've flown in South Korea and am amazed at how similar Mid War resembles the real thing. That would make it more Korea realistic. There have been several posts since I've been in the game about adding additional WWII jets and a lot of absolutely "NO's". But, based on the turn out last night and how much fun everyone seemed to be having, it might be time to reconsider. A "Korean War" arena might be good addition to the game set. It could be a primarily jet arena with F-86s, P-80s, Migs, etc. This would provide a place for jet enthusiasts to fly and keep the WWII arenas as they are. Keep up the great work, sir! :salute

again the terrain was just what i happened to pick for the week. its not very realistic, nor was it supposed to be. the contention was to give people a chance to build up some speed. ill fix that next time by using a better terrain. as for a arena for the jets, thats not something i can comment on. we only deal with the AVA. thanks for your input, i really appreciate it.
-
Yeah, I understand about the jet arena. If HTC sees this and the response to the AVA jet arena, maybe there will be consideration of Korean War Arena at some point down the road.
"Speed is Life" is a key element in jets. Well, except for Oldman, who likes to hang it all out and get down and dirty :x. But, I digress. It's definitely easy to gain and maintain speed over level terrain. Introducing the hilly terrain of Korea (Mid War) would definitely make it more challenging, but still doable.
Thanks for your hard work and effort in making the AVA the most fun of all arenas, at least for me. :aok :salute

It would be much nicer if we did have F-80/86s, MiGs, 101s. Seriously though, if there were Korean era jets and a dedicated arena for them, it would be face shooting squeakerville. Worse than a bad day in furball lake.
It was ok Jaeger, not my bag but you made a good choice to bring something different this time. It is too bad the Meteor isn't in game, now that would make for some epic WWII jet fights.
-
Agree about squeakerville. But, how about if it were a Korean War AVA type setup with no enemy icons? For the most part, that seems to keep the squeaker/HO shooting down to a minimum in the current AVA. Just a thought. :aok

The sun is killing me. I like the time settings but flying into that seriously gave me a headache. Well okay Cactus is using me for his personal scratching post but that's like clubbing a baby seal <S> Cactus.

i reset the time last night to mornings at 7am and evenings at 6pm, i can change that if it would be better for everyone. thanks for the input though!

more of a whine but ya <S> lovin it cap

Tonight was my first night flying in a week, so I jumped in the AvA for some jet action. OMG that is so frikkin fun!! This needs to be a reoccurring set up for sure! Looks like I need to build a Korea terrain.

What do you guys think about petitioning HTC for a Korean War jet/AVA arena? :rock

I'd say GO FOR IT! :x

Sure, why not? Beats the heck out of 99% of the other wishes.

Flew the other night for a little bit and it was a blast. I would like to see a different terrain but either way it is a refreshing change! Thanks for the hard work!

Flying the jets was wicked fun, thanks for setting it up. :salute
I would like to say however, that this set up would actually benefit from having enemy icons "on". My theory is that fights would be more dynamic when everybody is not hugging the deck to stay hidden. That, and at the higher speeds it is very hard to track enemies when switching between views. The time used relocate an enemy is usually enough to give him an overwhelming advantage. One mistake is all it takes before you get to eat a bunch of 30mm. Better visibility, better fights, more time between trips to the tower. :aok

Hey Cap?
<S> and thanks this has been a load of fun. Regardless of my suckage as a pilet I plan on being in this arena every Tue and Thur at 7 CST to support whatever you guys come up with.
I'm going to get my tail kicked for this but as much as the GV'rs whine on the boards you might consider a one night a week GV battle. We might not get the cookie but we might get an occasional chocolate chip. Just sayin.
And, for the record, I loathe GV's. But I'll play em if that's what it takes.

I wondered if the no-enemy-icons setting would work with the higher speeds of jets. Much to my surprise it seems to work fine, and I haven't heard any serious complaints about it (yours is a suggestion, not a complaint). Your observation about view switching is certainly accurate enough, and it applies to all of the planes in the AH2 plane set. Most difficult thing for me to learn - to the extent that I've learned it, that is - was to fly while looking out the back. The no-icons thing really drives home the importance of this particular skill.
Was great seeing you there the other night, Devil, hope to see you more.

Ya play what's out there. Sometimes the field is wet.
It's going to take me FOREVER to get used to the icons off situation but in the long run it will make me better so I'm giving it a :aok
So about those AAMRAMS on MY planes only? hmmm?
-
My biggest issue with the no icons thing is the fact that my 15" laptop makes it very hard to relocate an enemy at the deck, especially if I just had to change from one direction of view to another during a turn. I get a ton of practice at use of views though, and that is really something I need to work on. But the 262 skin really blends nicely into the terrain when really low, and it is hard on my eyes after a while of hard tracking..
Guess a bigger screen would solve my running eyes problem, the dot-hunt in the horizon is also hard on the eyes.. The good thing is there is not a flydirt on my screen that goes un-noticed, so my screen is pretty clean at all times nowadays.. :noid

Hugging the deck to avoid detection is one reason you will find Puma and I down there BUT it is not the main reason. Actually it's only about 10% percent or so... the main reason we are in the weeds is because without the bright, neon-like sign above everyones head that all but flashes "HERE I AM, COME SHOOT ME" it is not easy to see enemies. You have to actually look for people to shoot. I find myself peering intently out of all sides of my plane trying to see the other guy before he sees me. A lot of the time if you are the first you can dictate how the fight will go. So Puma and I scare the squirrels in an attempt to put as much sky above our aircraft as possible. It is much easier to see you guys against the sky than it is to pick you out of all the ground clutter. Which is... pretty darn realistic and makes for some very intense sorties when you are trying to fly a tactical formation while looking left/right/behind/above, at tree top level.... going 400kts +
We arent trying to avoid a fight, we are just trying to see you better to kill you quicker is all :t
Anyway it's lots o' fun :rock see you guys this weekend.
-
i was flying at 4k trying to sucker the guys in the weeds to come up after me so i could drill them! :D
-
I chased a dot on my screen right into the dirt... turned out to be sneeze / snuff residue :D
Good times nonetheless thanks for all of yalls hard work. :salute

O.K., O.K.! Ya get one AAMRAM. But, since ya don't have an on board search radar, the fins are locked, and......an inert warhead. ....and one is all ya get. ....and don't poke your eye out with that thing! :rofl I want you to be able to check six real good.

Korean terrain would be great fun, Ranger. The Mid War terrain is very similar to South Korea, as was the terrain along the northern Tunisia coast from last week. Go for it!
