Title: NEW G940 DRIVERS! v5.10
Post by: Tigger29 on September 09, 2010, 07:30:14 PM
It's here!  They screwed up and it's not listed in the G940 category, but if you go to the G25 Racing wheel you can find it there! (or you can get it from the FTP WEBSITE HERE (http://ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/))

I'm installing it now... hoping for the best!  I'll let you know..

OK I just took off in my first flight with the new drivers.... and I'm SOOOOOO HAPPPPPY to report that THE REVERSAL BUG IS FIXED!

Wonder if these drivers will fix obie's problem.  If it does then I maybe taking a more serious look at them.

OK I spoke too soon.. the reversal bug is still there.  I swear it felt like it was fixed at first but the more I flew the more I noticed it was still there.  Might be a bit reduced though.

FF does feel a lot better though.. smoother and more gradual (like before the firmware update).

The biggest differences I've noticed (where the g940 is concerned) is the ability to turn off the lights and to calibrate the mini-stick.

I screwed up that first link... I'll fix them here

OK See the problem now... it automatically added http to the ftp links.. Just cut and paste and remove the space after the first ftp:

32BIT VERSION = ftp ://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/lgs510_x64.exe
64BIT VERSION = ftp ://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/lgs510_x64.exe

In case anyone was wondering, the reversal bug is demonstrated at youtube HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiwyBM7PXEo) (select 480p and enlarge so you can read the numbers)

Any new revelations about the 5.10 drivers for the G940.  Is it worth the download or should I stay with the older version.

New drivers did not fix my wild rudder spiking at all.

Logitech had given up after replacing my G940 twice, telling me to wait for the next drivers to be releasing in the hope that might fix the problem.    They maintain no one else is having such issues, and the problem must be with my machine.   They've basically abandoned supporting the product in my case.

It's only a mild improvement, and even that may be in my head.  They did add an option to turn off the throttle button backlights though.

I have a feeling that the 5.10 had more to do with their other products than the G940.  I don't see any reason not to download the drivers, but I can't really find much benefit to doing so.

As for the rudders, I've heard of a lot of people with rudder spiking issues.  I haven't had a single problem with the rudders personally, except I DO have to move the all the way one way and then back the other every time my computer boots up (they are self-calibrating), otherwise they won't work correctly.

If it were for the reversal bug, it's be an awesome stick.  I've posted a video on Youtube demonstrating the bug HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiwyBM7PXEo).

Thank you for the update.  I so far have not had the reversal problem.  Lets hope it stays that way.  Oboe I get the feeling they are trying to make you wait until its to late to return it.  I have returned both of mine once so far.  Like I said a real love hate relationship.

Just extreme disappointment in my case, and a resolve to avoid Logitech products in the future.   I went back to my Thrustmaster Elite rudder pedals running through my Cougar joystick (which no longer registers a hat switch).   The Thrustmasters were bought in '98 and still serve admirably.  Been using the G940 stick and throttle lately, seem to work OK.

When TM comes out with the Warthog, I'll be selling the G940 here or on Craigslist.

I don't believe you.  EVERYONE and I mean everyone i have talked to with the G940 has that exact problem.  It's real easy not to notice until you start making precise movements.  I bet you can reproduce it!

Slowly move an axis (any axis) one way while watching the numbers in the AH configuration window.  As you gradually move it you'll see the numbers move smoothly...  Example:  1280, 1283, 1286, 1290, 1293... each increment you'll notice is the same.  Now slowly start moving it back the other way.. you'll see this:  1293, 1293, 1293, 1293, 1187, 1184, 1180, 1077... you'll notice that it doesn't really do anything at first but then it will JUMP a great deal.

It only does this when changing directions of an axis.  If you stop movement and then continue in the same direction then it will be fine:  1280, 1283, 1286, 1290, 1293, PAUSE, 1296, 1299, etc...

Like I said though it takes very small movements to reproduce this... it's mildly to moderately irritating, especially when strafing tanks and trying to get that perfect shot on the enemy plane in front of you.

If you're a stick yanker, or more of a 'shoot and pray' type then I'd imagine this bug wouldn't be so noticeable.

I've noticed that with FSX, while the bug is still present, it's not nearly as noticeable, as such fine adjustments aren't typically as necessary.

Hey Tigger,

Thanks for describing the reversal bug so well - I just went and tried it though, and I didn't notice any sticking when reversing either the X or Y axis.  I went as slow and smoothly as I could in both directions, both axes.

Got the original last November, it's been replaced twice since then.  Current one as the latest firmware upgrade on it.

You might not believe me but I have done all the test and duplicated the test.  I at this moment don't have the reversal problem.

Hey Logitech has a agreed to refund the G940 in my case so my year-long saga with the 940 is coming to an end.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Overall I liked the design and potential of the G940 and wish the problems with rudder spiking and toe brake issue could've been solved.   I'm glad Logitech intends to refund my purchase but I would much rather have had the problem fixed...

FWIW I opened my G940 throttle and gave the cable for the 2 rotaries a little slack and the spiking when moving the throttle is fixed. I can see the reversal bug when I look for it but it's not generally noticeable when flying. Pedals are still problem free.

Are you using Win 7 64-bit?   Since I had the same problem on 3 different units, I suspect its a driver problem.   Logitech assured me though that that there are many people using 64-bit Win 7 without problems.

Yes, Win7 64 bit. I've tried it on 3 different Win7 64 bit PCs with no problems. The weird thing about your pedal problem is that it didn't happen on your notebook. I don't think it's a driver issue.
