Title: Trojan & a hacker
Post by: W7LPNRICK on September 13, 2010, 01:11:30 AM
for nearly a week I've been fighting a hacker, who first planted a trojan which first took out my firewall and virus program, then erased all my pictures and video's, off my hard drive. Fortunately I have them all on a removable disk as well as the packets and trace files from the first attack. When all my defenses and tracking was down he specifically went after my Aces High II files...? I reloaded it, he erased it, 4-5 times...? somebody P.O.'ed about something in my videos and related to the game? Hmmmm? Interesting. Poor guy so wrapped up in a video game that he'd hack my PC... :cry Somebody need to get a life....oh I already said that.  :rofl  :neener: Up & running.....

I would assume it has more to do with the folder placement than anything else.

If you're being serious, you should probably have somebody look at what it is "really" doing.  Malicious code, as well as the people that create it, are more likely to lead you down the wrong road.

Once infected give up doing anything else until you have in cleaned out.

In some situations that may mean doing a full reformat, reinstall of the OS, Drivers, and software.
And please physically remove that computer from the internet until it is clean.
No point in taking a chance of spreading the infection.

+1   Just reformat to be safe, virus programs are never 100% safe and just move the file to a quarantine folder, it's still on your HD so who really knows what it could do

Doubtful anyone is hacking an individual. You probably downloaded a file that was bogus and when you installed it also installed a program that removes files.

The setup may look for programs used most often or the last running program. It could also be time based and only active during certain times and dates.

If anyone wanted access to your machine, it would be to use it as a soldier in an attack such as a DOS.

YUP! Thought I had it stopped several times, then said screw it! Format Hard Drive & Rebuild. I then searched my portable hard drive and quarantined it there. That's how it was hiding and getting back in my hard drive every time I save anything. We're good now.  :headscratch:

Did all this AND reported the source of the IP trace to the server & the HP hub that it went through on one of it's bounces.

Depending on the virus, if its a good one and its penetrated your system, its best to just back up what you don't have backed up and reformat.  The amount of time you spend running multiple scans + verifying its gone + lost hair, reformats are usually more time saving.

I really wasn't exaggerating or or BS'ing here. Had to run repair on my game again today. One important file moved. Still says no virus threats found. Some hackwers are darned sharp and a fire wall ain't gonna stop them. I've reset my IP address several times and he still finds me....

He doesn't find you, you havn't got it all clean yet.

Don't believe me, disconnect your computer from the internet for a few days. I mean physically unplug the lan cable, turn off the modem, etc.

Then continue to do what you normally do (other than surf the web)

Does it hit again? If so then you just proved it isn't a hacker didn't you.
If it doesn't, then perhaps you've proved the reverse is true.

Wipe it clean and start again, this time before you connect to your external drive, make sure you have Threatfire installed, updated, and running. Threatfire isn't a virus scanner, it just sits and watch's for the kinds of changes virus's make in windows registry, etc, then locks it in a box until you decide what it is.

Hopefully it will keep you from getting reinfected by the stuff on the external drive.

You're probably hitting one of the new exploits that spread through USB. So when you format and plug in your USB external drive you get infected immediately again.

Boot into a linux rescue cd such as F-secure rescue cd (http://www.f-secure.com/linux-weblog/2008/06/19/f-secure-rescue-cd-300-released/)

It's the only way you can boot up safe and do a scan on your files without getting automatically infected again. Threatfire or antivirus won't be able to stop the infection it exploits core faults in windows.

Yes you're right, kinda, I did this and nothing happened while disconnected. I'm no "Techie", but I've got some brains. as soon as I reconnected it happened. So I disconnected my voip phone which runs through my PC & uses my PC for the modem. It stopped. He was using my VOIP signal or phone number...? to find me. Every time I connect my phone it starts again. I scanned the little mini-drive for the phone several times. It's clean, but is apparently traceable. Hope I'm right.... :old:

Your system is still infected.

They are not "hunting you".

I approve this thread for entertainment purposes. In every post you almost think he's realized it, but nope. The paranoia is strong in this one.

OK guys, does a virus look for your packet & Trace files and erase them after you warned them & told them to stay off your friggin PC? Then you sent them the packets and traces from them entering your PC and taking the files & that you have them on your portable hard drive...and only after that point does the BS slow down or almost stop? They ONLY took the tracer and packet files I told them I had of their intrusions. It ain't top secret encrypted spy work, but I ain't stupid, and it ain't no co-ink-ee-dink. Some of these guys are the types that when you catch them, it's a challenge, so they gotta do it better next time, without gettin' caught. Yup, I'm paranoid too. That doesn't help at all.  :airplane:

If that doesn't work, i run the computer over with the dozer.

No one is tracking you. Most likely you have a registry entry, (or ten) that keeps re-establishing contact. If you did a full reformat and this is still happening then you may have an infected usb drive, or file that you keep re-installing.

Why are you wasting any time with this at all...

Do a long or full reformat...

And re-install the OS...

If you don't do this once a year anyway, than live with all of the ticks, chiggers, fleas and other hitchhikers you pick up...not to mention the registry bloat and other sorts of nasty RAM robbers that set up shop every time you install then un-install an app...

REFORMAT Y/N ?   YES

Wait a Second !!!!!!!!!!

This is the VIRUS that infects your motherboard BIOS....and no amount of Re-Format and Re-Install will fix it....

Oh man your hosed buddy...

The only solution is to pass a heavy magnet over your mother board....once you done with that, put on some socks and shuffle your feet back an forth on the carpet and then touch the capacitors on the mother board...do that over an over again...capacitors are those little cylinder things that look like upside down soup cans...

That will kill it for sure....

With all the experts on here telling me to do what I've already done & ignoring my statements regarding what I KNOW is happening, I'm beginning to wonder if some of you think This is impossible. I, in fact, KNOW it is possible because the people I tracked and identified, returned immediately to retrace their steps & leave the same footprints while they deleted the files they thought were not backed up. Viruses & bugs don't go after specific files within your firewall, security program, and delete the very files you spoke of a few minutes earlier, and disable the firewall tracking program that recorded those packets & trace files, then leave you alone....? This is not random digital munching machine eating bits off the d. It was strategic, exact, timely, & methodical. But you're right. Attempting to educate some of you regarding even the possibility of this, is like trying to prove God exists. Until you KNOW, you don't know. I hope this doesn't come your way just to prove me right.

Install a router with nat to your network and the problem goes away. If they track you through some lame instant messaging system just don't install it. Use pidgin if you must.

I have a very hi-tech system...I plug in my 2nd SATA hard drive every month or two, put a mirror on it, and then unplug it again. If the little bastids figure out how to go IN my pc and plug in the power to #2, they are very good indeed!

It's all cleaned up, formatted again, took the portable down to a techie for him to de-bug and retrieve my back-ups. Hopefully they've gotten bored with me.
