I know we have a keys for aileron trim. I wish we had keys for ailerons. Like the rudder keys.
Why? I think I might then be able to slide slip a bomber.
-
If you are speaking of the keys that turn you when you are in the gunner position, then they are not really rudder keys, they simply tell the auto pilot to bank the airplane.

I'm guessing 2Slow doesn't have a joystick, or even has his mouse set up.
The game will not allow the elevator or ailerons to be controlled by the keyboard. Too much precision is required. Instead you can map your mouse axis to aileron and elevator. Using the mouse is not quite like a joystick, but AH has it programed to come as close as possible. Extending the mouse from the starting position is like pulling your joystick back, it holds the position unlike many arcade games where you have to keep moving it to keep rolling your plane for example. The trick is to remember you have to be your own spring in a manner of speaking. When you extend it from the starting position you have to return it to the starting position in order to center the control surfaces, unlike a joystick that would center itself.
The trainers page has information and instructions on using your mouse for flight.

Mar, thanks for your suggestion in regards to the mouse. I do have jstick.
HiTech, those are the ones. I think I shall have to work on my jstick technique with twist rudder and left/right aileron inputs. My idea is to bank the aircraft left or right and use rudder to keep the nose pointing opposite of the bank. While there would be some altitude loss the nose would stay aligned with the desired bomb run line. Thus one gets the effect of stepping left or right without a direction change. Known as side slipping. It is also a good technique for fighters as well.

twist stick left while pointing nose right. That will give the effect you want.

you do realize the bombs are going to fall along your direction of travel, not the direction your nose is pointed?
i still am not sure why you'd want to be slipping a bomber on a bomb run :)
slips are useful to blow altitude without increasing airspeed on approach.. and i suppose at certain times to get guns on someone in a fight

Yes, I do understand the bomb fall physics. Here is my thought. I am on a bomb run. I see that I am to the left or right of my desired bomb run line. There is not enough time to nose left, then right to be on the line. My direction of travel is parallel to the desired bomb run line. So I could slip to the left or right and get on the line.
Keep in mind, my mission is a single salvo with delay. So close counts when tossing down the carpet.

if you are left or right, just steer from the bombsight with your joystick. if it's too late to steer, it's too late to slip too (and I doubt it would work to begin with). .. you are going to throw off your drop anyway with any sort of slip ..

One does not drop while slipping. One uses the slip to slide a little left or right. Once on line with intended bomb line, release slip. I am not talking about a major course change. If one inserts the town map into a Word document and does not adjust the bitmap image size then I am talking about a side slip of 2 to 5 millimeters.
I understand your doubts. Keep in mind that I am carpet bombing. Close tends to count. On a good day I can, with a single salvo and delay, take down 50% of a town. 46 buildings. I am just looking for a simple technique to make a minor adjustment to shift my line of attack slightly left or right and keep the current heading.
Please note, all, that I have been in AH since Air Warrior died. I do have a slight clue.

just that the game is based on being as close to rl as possible. in RL they would not slide the buffs to correct drop.

Perhaps not. Just a technique I was trying to explore.
Any one who would like to see a single salvo with delay drop take down half of a town (46 of 92 buildings) send me your email via message and I will send it to you.

why would you use delay, and not just pickle each bomb?
I've not used any delay above .05 in many years.
but then, the squad i'm in was originally a "precision" bombing squad :)

So am I, the Skyknights.
"why would you use delay, and not just pickle each bomb? " Just emulating the Might 8th method in the real deal. One pass, one salvo, 46 or 44 buildings reduced for urban renewal (depending on the line of attack.) No hovering over the target with multiple passes. In the case of 46 targets destroyed, 1/2 of town is down. RTB and have a beer/pint in the O'club.
Base/airfield attacks are a different matter. Multiple pickles are required.

I've been gettin 25 or more buildings (at least full text buffer) per 1 salvo of 1x500 with a formation. then onto the next town :)
-
making. Drop like that is easy, but still leaves lots of scattered buildings that need to be taken down 1 by 1, which is the hard part.

Delay has no effect or meaning AT ALL when salvo is 1...

I use 8 1000 pounders. 1 salvo, 46 buildings.

Duh!
Single salvo with delay. Perhaps I should have said salvo all with delay.

If you have the right delay and bomb line, it is. Scattered buildings, lots of them? See my film. Then decide on ease and effectiveness.

most of the buildings that you get are right in the middle where they're all grouped together. I got a crap load of them with a single 4k in the new mossie. so when you get 46 of 92 you get all the buildings that are grouped together and a few scattered ones. because if you were to get 46 of the scattered ones and a few in middle of town, you would need way more ords. not that you are doing a bad job. BTW i can take down just as many buildings dropping each bomb individually :). dropping all with a delay, wastes some ords.

Actually, it is not. Take your compass for example. You turn right, hey-oh! So does your compass. I believe I read somewhere that, in real life the compass would turn the opposite direction of your turn, due to magical magnetic forces of Jupiter or something along those lines. I remember reading that HiTech does not incorporate this in the game, as a fair balance between realism and fun.
Please don't post as if you KNOW it's a fact and you're the creator of the game? Please? Pretty please? :pray

It is all a matter of technique. Yes, there may be some wasted ords. Government operations always have some waste :)
Two buffs on two different lines can take 70% of the town with one pass using salvo all with a delay. A 3rd buff on a different line using a salvo of 1 and no delay will increase the total to 90%.
Yes, I know the same results can be obtained with all buffs using a salvo of 1. I just like the feeling of being able to say "bombs away" (last bomb has left the bomb bay) and then seeing something akin to a WWII film take place on the target with good effectiveness.
My film is not large, 640kb. PM me with an email address and I will send it to one and all.
I am sure most of use are feeling dizzy with this orbiting conversation. I will no longer watch this topic.

i think my point was (and is definitely off topic of the thread now) was you probably would get just as many buildings with half the ords.
