I am starting a new gaming system build soon and would like some input on motherboards.
It will be my first build and so far I have narrowed it down to one of these.
ASUS P7P55D-E PRO LGA1156 ATX Motherboard
EVGA P55 SLI LGA1156 ATX Motherboard 132-LF-E655-KR
MSI P55-GD65 Socket 1156 ATX Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3P Intel P55 Socket 1156 ATX Motherboard
I will probably get an I5 series CPU but haven't decided on dual or quad core.
Thank you in advance for any assistance. :salute

I would stay away from low end Asus boards if that happens to be one.
I've used an MSI and a Gigabyte with good results. I know some, I think Baldegle or Masherbrum have used Evga with good results.

EVGA P55 FTW SLI Motherboard - Intel P55, Socket LGA1156, SLI+PhysX, Crossfire 132-LF-E657-KR

I used this one for my last I5 build. Very nice board, except for the location of the 8 pin power. I little tough to get the plug in after routing the wire behind the board. Removal of the top rear fan was required for my fat fingers to get it connected.
The on/off, reset, and clear cmos buttons come in handy and the digital temp display is nice to have with a clear sided case. The EVGA in the middle of the board pulses like a heartbeat. It's all about the eye candy.

ASUS has always been a good board. +1 for asus

I'd agree, except that my last 2 experiences with Asus have been far less stellar than my experiences with them has been historically.

EVGA "FTW Editions" are very good items. That is a bad bellybutton MB and coupled with EVGA's excellent Customer Service record you cannot go wrong.

I've been loyal to Asus over the years, seeing as almost every time I've strayed I got burned. This includes buying around 100 motherboards over a 9 year span at my old job doing IT for a pharmaceutical company. Other brands had a much higher failure rate over the years than the Asus ones, the vast majority of which were still going strong (if the computer wasn't upgraded or replaced before then) when I left that job.
Oh and because someone said to avoid the cheap Asus motherboards, all of them were cheap that I purchased at my old job. As in ~$100 as opposed to the ~$200 ones I've bought for my home system over the years.
I'm typing this on a computer using an Asus Commando motherboard that shipped on March 23rd 2007 (for $206.99) that has been flawless. (I'm looking at the Newegg receipt right now, typed in the number, and its still listed although discontinued: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131149 .) I'm a habitual upgrader, so for me to be using the same motherboard 3.5 years later is seriously unusual.
I'm not vocal about many brands of any kind, but Asus has earned my loyalty over the years. I do hear that their customer service is bad, but I can't speak from experience because I've never had to use it.

all motherboards are subject to have some failures reguardless of the maker, it happens. i do remember some low end ASUS P4 478 boards having high failure rates but i have seen that with other companies too.
-
You won't be sorry if you go with Gigabyte. :)

I used and installed 94 Asus Striker II Extreme boards ($400.00 mb not entry) over 60 of them failed within the first year. ASUS QC has gone into the crapper as far as I am concerned.

TD that asus board has a known issue my guess is the Nvidia Chipset
the P5NT-Deluxe 780i has issues to i understand.
i've has MSI, shuttle, gigabyte, boards to the same when i was working doing mass builds for schools and goverment contracts
my roommate runs a P5Q Pro board with a 6850 C2D never had a issue
i run a M4A785-M with a X3 720 both are rock solid

some people just have better luck with certian brands I guess
some like ATI while others like Nvidia ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like INTEL while others like AMD ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like MAC while others like windows ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like Sateik while others like CH Products ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like Windows XP while others like Windows 7 64 bit ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like Western Digital while others like Hitachi Hard Drives ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
some people like ASUS while others like MSI ( both claim that their brand/version is better )
what really matters is that the person putting it all together knows what the hell they are doing and know how to get the best performance out of what they build......
:aok

i agree another thing is to do your research on the board you want. if you see alot of people saying it has a lot of failure rates dont use it or take your chances. but i guarentee theres not a motherboard that hasn't failed somewhere. and it may not even be the manufactures fault, bad power, lightning, etc could also be causes.

Go X 58 chipset, i7 cpu.
I use Gigabyte UD3 series board.

My ASUS P5K-E hasn't failed yet, nor has ANYTHING on this PC I built. Also, you're TheZohan. You've slipped up a few times.

i'm the who? first off i am not isreali, and i don't like hummus on everything. and if i was thezohan why do i get my bellybutton kicked flying. thezohan would never get killed as much as i do.
