I am basically suggesting a timer is latched in (or reset) each time a port is taken if the CV is not owned by the same country that owns the port after e.g 60 minutes Then it is scuttled.
Tilt, this was your idea initially and I fully support it. :aok
-
I support this. No more hideable captured fields to count towards map resets. :aok
-
I don't support laziness..... How hard is it to track 10 minutes?
:D
:bolt:
-
I support this as well.
-
Personally, I would like to see a longer time limit than 60 minutes, but this is really a minor point only

yea..we mostly realize that in-game an hour can fly by(pardon the pun)..-1

I support this also. Do agree with Lusche on the longer timer as well.

Yeah, so they still continue to hoard the CV's? No thanks. Three hours tops as Lusche suggested.

Might this have the unintended consequence of CVs only being used for port defense?
-
doubt it, our Captain Stubings will still drop anchor in front of the SB. If by chance it does then that would be an improvement from putting them 500 miles from a fight
-
I agree, though 60 minutes might be too short.

With only 60 minutes there may be some unintended consequences, this being probably one of them.
A time span like 180 minutes even gives ample time to get the port back. It would also be an incentive for the side that just captured the port still to go out and sink that CV, instead of just waiting for it just falling into your ands after only an hour.
After all, the main reason for this wish is not to provide an easy way to gain a new CV, but just to prevent them being out of the fight for a whole week.
All usually strategies for CV combat would still work the same, even bringing it out of the danger zone until the port is recaptured... only infinite hiding and not caring about it any more would be a thing of the past.

Excellent addendum.

I was going to change my vote to a +1..but then realized...the team which has the port would do at ALL costs, anything needed to keep the port until the time period was over and auto get the cv back..So lets say that one side against another side is battling it out for the port..MEANWHILE the team which has the cv is USING it,and then at the time limit,it goes away in the middle of a battle..Back to -1

But ain't that a great thing? One team has to hold the port at all costs, the other has to get the port back at all costs. Sounds like a great incentive to fight.
And my proposed 3 hours time span limits CV captures in easy mode, by horde smashing a port and then simply loiter over it. They better go and sink the CV, because 3 hours is a looong time in the MA. And try to hold a port vs a determined enemy for 3 hours... with no airfield and only 1 VH. If you manage to keep the port for that long, you have earned your CV :)

A port is definitely harder to defend then to take. Most of the maps are set up so they are easy to capture, notice how all the horde missions...some yours...go to ports.
+1 for OP, +1 on Snail's 180 minute idea

You want to get people screaming on the BB's about how they had a great FB going, then all of a sudden the CV was GONE???Or how close they were to taking a base?? You dont see where if it is being used in my previous post, that your to,er odea just wouldnt go over well at all..And really most ports are already close to AF's,and can be defended quite easily..
This would cause major fighting I believe ON-TEAM,the guys who were using the cv getting mad at the ones who didnt get the port...just feels like bad JU-JU....

All of a sudden? With the enemy being in possession of the CV's homeport for 3(!) hours?
Can't get worse than this:
Which is symptomatic for this map. After half of the week, a huge portion of CVs are simply out of play.
-
Just defend the CV BEFORE it gets taken,,AND the PORT...It happens to ALL SIDES...
And lusche,it could be someone/many who logged in recently, and wasnt even there when the cv got taken by their team...
-
Maybe a better idea would be to not allow cv's to go more than say 2-3 sectors behind friendly lines..Get the ol' WAYPOINT is TOO FAR out of BOUNDS... :aok.. or hook and arrow to it if it gets so many sectors behind friendly lines.Like when someone is off the map...
That sounds much more reasonable.

On these big maps CVs spawn most of the fights when they are all in use. The land always bottlenecks to the same place and go back and forth the entire time we have that map. CVs get around those bottle necks and open up more diverse types of fights
-
yea because people are going to be screaming about those CV fights the map above. Thats 2 fights that could be going on instead you have 2 cvs that have been removed from the map till the arena resets. CV's disappear from furballs all the time thanks to the tards that hide them, thats nothing new but at least in this idea we get them back instead of removed for the week.

This is where submarines could come in handy.... Just sayin'
having a submarine group with a 30 mile radius dar ring insted of 20 mile
and any cv enemy cv to enter that dar ring will pop up on dar
it's up to the players to do the sinking though
Avanti

sounds reasonable BUT it wont work
what if a CV is chasing another CV in friendly lines then has to discontinue the chase due to can't do any further

Easy Button: HT GET RID OF ALL CV'S IN GAME. Save a lot of room on AH BB about hiding cv's :bolt:
-
then all of a sudden the CV was GONE???
Scuttling could take place over a period of minutes whereby bits of the CV explode before the actual sinking takes place.......... everyone would be able to see whats happening.

skuttling now is it??no offence, but really...What if like tilt says, there is a good furball going with another cv and all of a sudden the cv starts slowly being destroyed.
I dont see how not allowing it to go so many sectors behind friendly lines is so hard to deal with..it would at least leave it in play and would not be hard to find with some dedicated Cv hunter/gatherers seeing how there are many in the game.. ;)

HTC will know better but to COAD a definition of "freindly/enemy lines" is a pretty tall order when all we wish to achieve is avoiding CV groups being hidden. The other methodology of achieving something of what you suggest would be to define a limit with respect to how far from its origin base a CV group can be taken. This still involves some COAD that is more complex than a simple latched timer initiating a self destruct sequence.

-1, I’m against this rule change and here is why. I do not agree with a strategy that includes hiding and not using a CV. But I have also been present when a port has been captured but the attacking side was unable to also sink the CV, because it was just too well defended. Now this rule change being proposed would punish the defenders unfairly. Any side that holds a port that can’t locate the CV associated with that Port, has the option to mount a Search and destroy mission or at least a search mission.
