Just so we are all well prepared. :t
I think something with 30mm like a 262 , A8, 110G, TA152. Devastating firepower is needed for sure. Target the usual areas of weakness. Should fall to the ground just the same.

I say ram em !

Don't vote for it. :D
-
hahaha soulyss that was golden
-
Fly over it with another B29 and drop a nook on it. :D
-
big guns and BnZ will do it
-
You should be in something fast at the altitude the B-29 is at, and well armed.
Currently in the game now that means things like the Me262, Me163, Ta152, P-47M, P-47N and if you're daring the F4U-4, Bf109K-4 and Spitfire Mk XIV.
Don't fly up it's 20mm Hispano armed ass.
-
Well the B-29s nose is only protected by glass. I say aim for cockpit.
-
Don't vote for it. :D
:rofl
-
Not entirely sure an AH B-29 ought to have a 20mm in the tail. In RL they were usually removed as they were so unreliable.
-
I think the weapon of choice is going to be either the 152 or the P-47 unless you can get to them before they get up to alt.
Wiley.

Don't vote for it. :D
Now there's the best answer!!! :aok
-
best way to kill em, don't tell the general populace that they will need to reduce fuel load-out and let them crash on take-off. :D :salute

Lets see what the crews documented about how they were attacked.

Looks like nose on is the winner. :aok

excellent research lyric!
The front quarter shallow belly attack is my usual favourite angle of attack. Build up as much speed as possible then zoom past. Only the really good gunners can make a shot and change positions quick enough to have a pop out the back once you've gone past.
I'm looking forward to the challenge :)

WTIH MY A-26!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. You can't go wrong with a Kenn C Rust book. :aok

I'd say P47N or M would be the best. 30mms are overrated against bombers.

I would say by vulching it on take off or landing with a 262 :devil

Did B-29s even get escorts' in WWII?

Did B-29s even get escorts' in WWII?
Absolutely yes.

Did B-29s even get escorts' in WWII?
That was pretty much what the P-47N was invented for. However the B-29s struggled to hit their targets at high altitude in daylight because of the very high wind speeds encountered over Japan. So a change of tactics was introduced. The B-29s' turrets were stripped out and they were loaded up with incendiary bombs. These were dropped at low altitude at night over mainly wooden Japanese cities to devastating effect. This had the secondary benefit of being a lot kinder on the engines, which had to work hard to get up to alt for the daylight raids.
The escort fighters were switched to sweeps and ground attack sorties.

At least 3 for every B29 :aok

Only kidding. :D

mig 15

Not sure why the Ta 152 is always mentioned, it is, in this game at least, in my opinion, a pretty poor interceptor, what with its glass nose and all.
-
B29 killer? Typhoon/Tempest aimed ever so precicely at the glass nose..... :P expect tons of whiny PM's about the failure being shot down :devil :joystick:
-
B29 will be easy to kill while he is distracted dropping 70 1000 bombs on a Tiger tank
-
Not entirely sure an AH B-29 ought to have a 20mm in the tail. In RL they were usually removed as they were so unreliable.
Then we should also account for the glass landing gear and engine problems on the Ki-84 and N1K2, the unreliable 20mm on the F4U-1C, and dozens of other mechanical failures.
-
HO the beaotch!!!!! that glass from end will make a beautiful target, and the simple math of it is no pilots no plane.
-

The point about having a B-29 without a tail 20mm is that the cannon was often removed in service, not that it was unreliable.
-
My snippy answer is that we can best kill it by never allowing it in the game :).
However, speculating how best to kill a plane that doesn't exist in the plane set is a bit difficult. We don't yet know if the remote control nature of the gunners stations (other than the tail) are modelled so we don't know with what ease or difficulty the gunners will be under in trying to defend. Even if they have all the guns stripped out, ala Le May's mods to the Tinian/Saipan bombers, they are going to be tough to catch with most of the planes in the current plane set.

Japanese techniques against the Americans were becoming worrisome. In one technique the fighter would climb above the bomber formation and drop breakaway canister aerial burst phosphorous bombs. This proved very effective. Also the "Dragon Killer" night fighters were fitted with twin mounted 20mm cannons angled to shoot up. The idea was to coordinate their attack with ground searchlights, and approach the bombers from below, then shoot up into the formation. Most times they were never even seen. The war continued to deteriorate for the Japanese as the first long range P-51 escorts showed up to mark the beginning of the end for Japanese aviation.

Squads of 47's will devastate them, just don't take them on alone, come in on them just like that diagram frontal and high or high sideways attack and rake the wings with them 50's :joystick:

The Japanese were really only able to successfully intercept the B-29 once the B-29s started flying at lower altitudes and even then the Japanese fighters still have difficulties. If you look at the B-29's record, far more B-29s were lost to mechanical failure during missions than were shot down by Japanese fighters.
