Title: Remembrance Day
Post by: JimmyC on November 11, 2010, 07:24:21 AM
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them".

<<S>> to the fallen Heroes that made the life that we lead possible
many thanks.

To those who have served or are currently serving - Thank You
To the families of the fallen - Know that they are Heroes

By doing what was asked of you - without hesitation or regret, is what allows the rest of us to enjoy the lives we choose to live.  For that, you are all Heroes and will never be forgotten.

Thankyou to all of those that salute us veterans on this day any day that you so choose. I gladly gave 11 years of my life in support of this great nation before I was medically discharged. As one can see in my signature, I served on various commands through the years. I have seen most of this world (Damn near every gallon of it...lol) while serving and prior to that being a Navy Brat as my stepfather served. I enjoyed my time in and was very proud to serve and would do so again if it were possible. I salute those who served and continue to serve to maintain and protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. Thankyou for what you have done and are now doing, making many sacrifices that the average person has no clue about. Praises to all (except the Veteran's Administration Health Care system that let many of us slip through the cracks, not giving us the proper medical attention we so rightly deserve). God Bless all of you that are now in harms way here and abroad and I pray for your safe return home to your loved ones and friends.

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers' Green.

 :salute Always Ready

Thank you to those who served

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. That is beyond honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact. Support the Troops!

The armistice that ended World War I took effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. The next day was declared Armistice Day and later became known as Veterans Day, in honor of veterans of America for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

I thank you and  :salute  you!

In no way disrespecting our American cousins, and the service they did

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I.

Sorry skullace, the world id bigger than just America

I salute all the fallen Heros  :salute

In Holliston, Massachusetts, right above my home town, every year volunteers post names of soldiers that have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan on every pole on all 3 main streets in town. If you live nearby, these roads are route 16 and route 126 through the town and i have a feeling more will be up soon if you want to read the names... <S>

                                                                    Grieve the Warrior, You
                                                                        Author: Earl Davis
Every decision made is the result of a choice, sometimes mine, sometimes yours. It was my choice to join. It was your choice what I was to be. God did not make the Warrior, man did. In the life we live, the Warrior is a necessity. It is the responsibility of the Warrior to protect and defend the freedom of others, no matter how high the cost. The color of freedom is red.
Grieve the Warrior, You.

Once a Warrior is made, there is no going back. He is forever changed. It is up to you to honor and respect the Warrior in his transformations. A Warrior has wisdom you will never know, let alone understand. Among Indian tribes of old, only a Warrior could become Chief, and only a Chief could advance to Sage.
Grieve the Warrior, You.

There is a Wall filled with bygone heroes, honored and respected. A virtual Wall exists with four times the names, fallen Warriors that shouldn't be, but driven there by dishonor and disrespect. There are many, many more who are alive, but dead at the same time. You have chosen to put it all behind you. It is past now, so let us forget it, like it never happened. Warriors can't put it down, can't forget because it is still happening to their minds.
Grieve the Warrior, You.

Whatever you think of them, or not think of them, doesn't change a thing. You have made them Warriors and Warrior forever they will be. You see I am a Warrior. No one ever says, "I was" or "I will be", but "I am." I am the price of your freedom. Your world exists because of mine, and mine exist because of yours. Your visions are many and varied, of bright and beautiful things to come. The visions of a Warrior are contained in one _____ A thousand-yard stare.
Never mind, the Warrior will grieve You.

I salute to the veterans currently not with their families, serving to protect our nation overseas in Afghanistan.
I know many of my brothers have gave the ultimate sacrifice over there and it kills every time to look at the obituary's and see another fallen marine because we don't see the sane with the people over there.

<S> to those guys and happy 235th birthday Marines

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the guns went silent after 4 years of madness - every year we share 2 minutes silence at that anniversary point - it's called Rememberance Day in a lot of countries, especially the ones that gave up a fairly large slice of their young men. That's the point  - to remember the fallen especially Commonwealth troops from all over the former British Empire - thats where it came from.

Isn't a veteran someone who survives?

And the lines from OP are  "Ode to the Fallen"  Well Done Jimmy
 "Lest We Forget"
