Title: Channel 200..the most active political forum on the internet..
Post by: BigR on December 01, 2010, 11:09:13 PM
Please I am begging..stop talking about politics on 200. I really dont't care to be "educated" about your views. I come to this game to get away from it. People tell me to detune...but why should i detune? It is constant ...every damn night. I love this game, and I like to banter with people about game topics and talk a little game related trash too. The political talk is disgusting and always degrades into the equivalent of neanderthals having a contest of who can grunt the loudest. In the past, it wasn't such a big deal because it didn't happen so much. Now its the SAME people EVERY night. Thats the beauty of living in Australia, you can talk politics and no one even knows you're doing it.
All I said was it was a meal fit for Julia Gillard.

BigR is right on this one.  If you want to talk politics go somewhere else.  Shouldn't have to detune 200 because of folks talking stupid stuff that has no place in the AH world.  If you are that bent on complaining about politics, get away from your computer and go get elected, or work for someone.

I read much of it over 200, I found none of it irritating. the real beauty is we are all free. Free to read it and ignore it.

Channel 200, the channel to talk between countries, should not be used as a political soapbox by a few blowhards in search of a captive audience.  It is simply not the appropriate place to have a reasoned conversation on the subject, and no other type of conversation on the subject is worth having.

If you really need to put out political statements to a captive audience of the length and complexity that will fit in the chat buffer line, your car or truck's rear is a great place to put your thoughts.

Alternatively, take it to another channel so that those of us not consumed by our vexation with some politician or other don't have to be subjected to the drivel.

I AM not offended by politics.

what it is that bothers me when i see them being discussed in the game, is that i'm in the game to get away from that crap. if i wanted to see/watch/hear/discuss politics, i'd not bother logging in. i want to shoot at cartoon airplanes when i'm logged in.

It's not that the political topics are offensive ... what is offensive is that those who participate in political/religious discussions on channel 200 think that 100's of people who are playing this game and just want to play the game ... really give a crap about their political/religious views.

No one should be told to de-tune 200 when a select set of tools go on political/religious diatribe ... they should be told to move their discussion to a private channel or go to the O'Club and have at it and let the rest of us enjoy the game.

Perfect so no one need tell the [adjective]s to shut up, just squelch them. Get it? It's not a choice of 200 or nothing, you can leave 200 on and squelch just the [adjective]s.

I know it was banned on 200 long ago but it has never been enforced. I notice when the political talk starts...everyone else who was talking stops, and it disrupts the whole flow of the game. In the past, it wasn't such a big deal because it didn't happen so much. Now its the SAME people EVERY night. I have been playing for years, and it has never been this bad....probably a sign of the times, but the game is supposed to be an escape..not a soap box for people who obviously are not listened to by anyone in their real life. There are countless forums devoted to this sort of "debate". This game should not be one of them.

This HAS to also include political:  Conspiracy theories, financial meltdown theories, 9-11 Inside-job-by-the-government theories, Iraqi Invasion Conspiracies, Illuminati (9 guys who run the world) and any other fodder that YOU thinks he got on the internet...(because if its on the internet it MUST be true).  Yes, I have participated in it out of frustration that this person might unduly influence weak minds.  That will stop as of tonight.

as far as 200 goes, I dont even tune it.  There is too much banter on country as it is, allow 200 to cross the text bar is close to overload for me.

There are 2 things brothers should not ever speak of for obvious reasons:  politics and religion.  In fact, those 2 subjects are near forbidden to be brought up in Masonic Lodges.  I do admit, it is nice to be able to go to Lodge and not have to worry about the "real" world BS.

With that being said, I enjoy discussing politics (and religion to a lessor degree) with people who have an open mind.  Having a degree in Political Science has given me far more insight into the "sausages" of political theory than most people, and yes that includes even those people in which we elect.  Knowing how and why people think the way they do helps me to engage them and be the best devil's advocate a person can be.   ;)

One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Otto von Bismark: "There are 2 things the public should never see: the making of sausages and the making of laws."   :aok

No it isn't the wrong answer.  Inapropriate/unrelated speech is a problem. Making that problem worse is 5 times as many folks who continuously tell them to shut up. I'm for them shutting up, and I'm fine with YOUR rule and YOU doing what you need to to shut them up, but we only need one Skuzzy, not an army of Skuzzy wannabees.

How does a CM text ban anyone using poor language or anger after 1 warning, but allow the political apparchuks to continue on for hours?  Just curious...because I tested it last night and I got muted but the politichuks kept it going.  Are there levels of wrongness? lol

Same thing happend to me a few weeks ago. Mod told me to watch my language after i said something like "Who the F cares?" It was a live mod because I know they dont filter the letter F. So there was a mod in there watching this conversation go on, and they didn't do a thing because it went on for well over an hour.  The only 2 possibilities are that the mods are poorly trained, or they are part of the conversation and are above the law.

Bzzzzt!  Wrong answer!  We do not want political nor religious discussions to take place in the game.  I am pretty sure I cannot be any clearer than that.
Thank you Skuzzy.  Spot on.

I did not say a word about beating anyone down or getting hostile with each other.  I said, use the .report mechanism as it is a valid use for those discussions.

Well my comment was about players telling other players to shut up. This in my opinion is just as bad as yapping about religion and politics. I never mentioned .report, or not to use it. I said use .squelch instead of "Shut the F up" over and over.  You replied to my comment with....

"Bzzzt! Wrong answer"

Perhaps you mis-read my original post, but I'm fair and now accepting appologies. Hot line is open.

that would be because squelching those talking about politics does not fix the problem....you don't see it anymore, but others still have to see that crap.....report em, they get text banned, and they learn not to.......

I think that was the night that politics got banned. I should have a T-shirt that says "I survived 11-3-08 on Aces High"

It was rough.

I teach my son not to be a tattle tale.  I am concerned that may be against the grain  :frown:

I personally like political and religious discussing on 200 in particular.  These guys are my peer group and it is great to see how everyone feels.

Perfect example why permasquelch is needed.

In addition to religion and politics, I believe discussion on how Ack-Ack "hates luft" and how Air Warrior had an "any plane" arena should also be forbidden.   :aok

See Rule #14

rule #14 states: Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts

all i said was "shut up."   and while i'm sure my post violated one or more of the rules, i do not understand how i violated #14.   you're the boss, change any of my posts you like, just looking for a little clarification  :aok
