Some planes have multiple selectable fuel tanks that allow the player some advantages (IMHO). Planes such as spits and early corsairs have accessible wing tanks, which if you burn off first seems to allow for a higher roll rate. It would also be interesting to see the center of gravity changes on some planes. This also seems to benefit when you can select tanks that have not been hit to isolate them from fuel leaks. I would ask for the update to enable all which had selectable fuel tank management systems.

Think the function you want is shift f, I think.
Semp
-
yup shift-F cycles through the tanks, and the fuel weight and location is modelled.
-
Perhaps I was not clear. On some models you can do this, on others you cannot. Take the U-4. You can only select "main", while the 1a you can select wing tanks. On 109s, you only have "main" as an option (edit... yeah, one tanks L shaped under pilot). On a 38 you have a bazillion to pick from. I do know about the shift F.
-
thats because some planes had multiple tanks, some just the one.
not sure what you're asking for here :headscratch:
-
Name a plane that had one fuel tank.... A single tank. Just saying, I can't think of a plane that only had one tank. If it had two, then I ought to be able to select one or the other.

How many tanks did the 109 have?

In lieu of Lusche, again, If you're not going to take 100% fuel, then not all tanks will be used. The F4U series has some good examples, the -1A comes to mind in particular.

On a 1A you can toggle LW/RW/MAIN on U4 regardless of load out you can only toggle main. When you run the wing tanks out, that is less weight away from the centerline of the plane allowing for what would feel like a faster, more controllable roll.
As far as the 109... probably a loaded answer Lusche, I guess your saying it had one tank.... Being away from my parchment of knowledge I will defer to your snailness.
My main point (aside from an absence of some knowledge) is I would like to select tanks on planes with more than one tank.

all our corsairs except the 1A ...

you can already using shift-F.

Did all corsairs (IRL) only have one fuel tank with the exception of the 1a?

But the knowledge is a crucial point.
Basically you are saying that in regard to fuel tank selection some planes are modeled wrong, without telling which ones and why. Maybe you are demanding a fix for an error that isn't?
If you say something is wrong, it's up to you to say what & why. Right now, you are assuming an HTC error instead of checking if the plane in question really had more the one fuel tank.
-
Well said and all true. I certainly do not have a book on every plane used in AH. You and others may. So without a comprehensive list then this is a dead thread.
Then, back to the U4 example. Did every Corsair, with the Exception of the 1a only have one tank?

according to wiki the prototype only had wing tanks, but the -1 had only a main tank. wing tanks were added for the -1A, then removed again for the -1D/C and the -4 :)

Wow...lolz. Open mouth insert keyboard. Well, I guess thats what the BBs are for at any rate. Thanks guys.

In the F4U series. the 1A had 3 tanks, the 1C,1D, and 4 all had 1 main tank to use... also like others have said if you dont take 100% you wont always use all the tanks.

Man, now I am at odds, just looking at some orginal docs shows C-Hog and D-Hog as having 62 Gallon non self sealing tanks in the wings... what is correct?? You guys or this?

this is the point where you decide if you want to do a bunch of research to find out, or just trust that HTC have done theirs :)
edit: from the diagram
Unprotected internal tanks on F4U-1 only

Hell, these papers also show three hardpoints on the center line of some corsairs.... ;)

Zing...more egg. I think I will quit while I am behind.....

hehe
in my experience the more you dig, the more you realise that HTC have done their research and made good decisions about the modelling of whatever it is. there are a few exceptions but they are just that.

Yeah, I guess I need to build a better library before flying off the cuff.... <S> amigo.

The Bf109s also have a single tank. Get a hole and you're done for. The P-47s have 1 main and 1 very small aux... Most times that aux is gone and you are essentially flying on 1 tank. Similar situation.
163 also has just 1 tank.
I'm sure there are a few more but can't think of them right now.
-
Krusty,
The 163 used two chemicals as fuel and they had to be stored sepperately.
So saying it had 1 tank is false.
:salute

still. you can consider it one due to the fact that losing one or the other = losing all your fuel and/or explosion due to imbalance of mixture?

Explosion.
Or did anyone ever had fuel leak in a 163? Not me for sure... ;)
The 163 had a total of 7 fuel tanks. Three for T-Stoff and four for C-Stoff.

dont remember getting shot less than instant death or loss of a wing in one so :lol i didnt know about fuel loss in one :aok
