Because for some reason you have some twisted fetish on Jugs, I thought you'd enjoy these Soviet КУВШИНЫ!

Too bad none of the P-47s in Soviet service ever saw any action.

The Russians had them and didn't use them?

They didn't like them. The Soviets received around 196 P-47D (of various D types, not a single type) and after evaluations, the Soviet pilots that flew them stated that at altitudes of 6,000 meters and lower the P-47 was more like flying a heavy target than a fighter and was more suited for high altitude escort duties.
One of the Soviet test pilots had this to say about the P-47. Apologies for some of the awkward tranlsations in some parts, not my doing.
" First minutes of flight I knew this is not a fighter! Steady, with comfortable spacious cockpit, convenient, but - not a fighter. "Thunderbolt" had not acceptable maneuverability in horizontal and it is especial in vertical . The plane slowly was dispersed - inertia of heavy aircraft had an effect. But "Thunderbolt" is wonderful for simple flight on a route without sharp maneuvers. It is not enough for a fighter ."
All of the Soviet P-47s served in air defense units and at least 50 were used by the Soviet Navy in North Fleet air defense units.
Here is another picture of a Soviet P-47.

I think the loop antenna was a Soviet addition, not sure though.

lol, the russians also said the thompson was a pointless machine gun. pretty much shows how much they knew.

WOW! Good find Ack-Ack. Russians could have used them against the tanks. Too bad they never explore it on ground attacks if i had 8 x .50 cals. :aok

didnt they use p39s in that role? between 8x .50cals or a 37mm cannon, i'd take the 37mm
-
I just find it odd the Russians having something with a gun on it and not using it against the Germans

30 37mm or 3200 .50 cals I'd take the .50cals

I know right? All they could come up with was the AK47. :lol

im more impressed by the mp44 than i'll ever be by the ak47.

'all they could come up with was the AK~47' probably the best assault rifle ever made. and I completly agree with the Russian take on the 47 typical American . besides the fact its one of the ugliest WW2 birds ever made, I will give it credit in the ability in taking damage and bringing pilots safely home, and being fast enough to run away....err I mean egress to friendlies. seriously why would they even consider when they had the Yak's and LA's which are far beyond the 47's, The LA~7 one of the Best fighters of the war, if not the Best. And a very beautifull bird to boot. Of course this is just my opinion and we all now about those....besides im in the mood for some fishin.........:-)

9mm vs 7.62? Pfft....I will take the distance, muzzle velocity, durability, knock-down and range of the AK any day over a machine pistol that fires subsonic rounds. Unless of course this was the 8mm variety, I get them confused, in which the AK is much more accurate

i ment by its radical design than actual performance. the mp44 being the first ever assault rifle. and it also being the granddaddy to the ak.

The air war was different in the East than it was on the West and that's what the Soviets based their needs on and they were correct. In their air war, the P-47 and P-51 wouldn't be effective for the type of fighting that was required. Kind of shows you how much you know.

The MP-44 didn't fire subsonic 9mm rounds. It fired 7.92mm bullets at 690m/s

Beat me to it.

I give it a 3 out of 10.
Would have scored higher but you gave away your bait.

lol ya im too damn honest even for my own good....:-)

Yes....I must have been typing my edit when you guys typed your posts. Traditionally the 8mm German rounds of which the 7.92 falls aren't nearly as accurate or have the same range. 2296ft/s for the 8mm is sig lower than the AK's 2980 ft/s thus reducing range and accuracy downrange. My preference would be the 7.62, specifically the NATO 7.62
-
I guess if we're hijacking, The 8mm is way heavier than the 7.62x39 and is a full power battle rifle round. It would have way more knockdown power at range and is a completely differnt animal than the AK round. If your talking about the shortened 8mm the MP44 fired, it is an intermediate round like the 'x39. The MP44 is on the dust heap of history, the AK isn't.
