I see alot of people that ask for Korean war settings or Vietnam plane sets and i for one would love either but what would happen to all the other arenas? Would everyone just play that arena all day and the rest die or would it just be like the WW1 arena and be a fad or something else? Maybe on TT Tuesday you could have the alt Korea map too or something.
Just curious what everyone thinks and if they think we will ever have the jet age maps.
-
It would look like the WWI arena after the novelty wore off.
-
My thought is that it would be like WWI because there would basically be no set goal.
-
We did get into World War 1, so going into the Korean War is a good possibility. I wouldn't go any farther than that though.
The reason the WW1 arena is "dead" is there isn't a goal to be had there, with the exception of furballing. Toss in bombers, things to destroy and capture and various other things, then you would probably see more people in it. I would guess that it would be like Mid War in terms of numbers though. The Korean War Arena would likely have more numbers than Mid War on a daily bases unless you made it like current WW1 arena. Then it would have the same, if not more, people in it than the WW1 arena, but not enough to get out of the label of being "dead".

hey doomed its delta07,back on topic....wouldnt mind havin a F86 Sabre to play around with :x

Don't let the numbers fool you. There's a small but solid player base in the WW1 arena, they are all good sticks and a fine group of gents to boot, a pleasure to fly with or against. I don't think I've seen any sort of argument in there for months. The numbers are slowly increasing as more people drop in for a look and are blown away by the friendly relaxed atmosphere, challenging combat the equal of any arena and unique early aviation flavour. The AH team did a fantastic job putting the WW1 arena together for us, it's a shame that the majority of the player base hasn't caught on yet what a little gem they've been gifted. No extra fees and you now have the option of going back another 20 odd years to experience a taste of the birth of aerial combat. The arena has it's shortfalls but who or what doesn't? If you see yourself as here for the WW2 action as most do you might want to think about unwinding after a busy night or sharpening up before a serious session flying the ragwings, who knows you might even learn something useful for your hardwing exploits :)

agreed tusk :aok and if i didnt have the 20th FG to deal with id be in there more often also

does anyone else wish that they had a me262,ar234,and 163 section in the dueling arena? would be fun to have whenever you got that "jet vs jet" itch.
and also put an altitude cap over that section of the arena, so noone can fly the jets out to the other furball arena.

because theyd bring the jets to furball lake like they do now with Ar234s and bombers. No use dealing with screaming 262s also in there

couldnt an altitude cap be put over there section of the arena? imagine a section like what the furball is, just instead of being "lifted" like the rest of the arena is, make it at 0k, then put a 10k alt cap on that section. therefore they couldnt escape..
...and do the things you do in that 234 and i do in my b17s,bar. :noid :aok

cant set a hard cap iirc. has to be soft and soft caps can be broken with enough time

darn. in the 5 years ive played this game, ive never flown a me262 in the main arenas :(
hard to earn fighter points going up against some of the best sticks in the game, with just a mouse.

5 years? ive only noticed you within these last 4 months? :headscratch:
that and your name doesnt hit in the database further back than a few tours :aok

first 2 years were spent in 8 player, then had to play offline for a yr and a half due to a computer crash.didnt sign back up for online till late 2008.
you most likely didnt see me around because i mostly flew in early/mid war. late war with its players that use sticks/peddles/etc can be deathtraps for simple mouse/keyboard flyers :uhoh
the first name i ever had was mgp.
-
AVA ran a 'Jet Week' a few weeks ago on a Korean map by US Ranger. It was lots of fun. It will probably be run again in the future. We had free 262's and AR234's and the map is nothing short of AWESOME.
-
Fights in fast moving Jets would be alot more fun/challenging then those slow POS WWI birds......They exxagerrate most of the things people hate in the MA because they can spin around on a dime IE HOs, Rams

Yes I do. We used to have that back before the DA got turned into the steaming bowl of crap it is today. I miss doing canyon races in 163's.

I doubt it. If HTC did it right they could create a mini war with bombers, tanks, and jets. It could be a very fun arena. That's how AW3 Korea was.

Agreed, even if it was just a 'jet furball arena' it would still be a lot more exhilarating than flying 90mph lawn mowers.

....erm, JunkyII I think the dynamics of air combat (between similar a/c) is a kind of constant, regardless of speed or turn rate. Granted the slower ragwings get you up close and personal which increases the chance of collision, but the basic dynamics and skillset required are similar. As for HO's I don't recall being hit hard that way for months now.

Now that's a paddlin' lol. If you need to go fast to get your kicks I can respect that. Personally I can't think of anything more 'exhilarating' than combat in a WW1 a/c. I recently watched a documentary where two highly rated jet jockeys got to do just that ('Fighting the Red Baron' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN3ELkQSvZE&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN3ELkQSvZE&feature=related)) and I don't recall them looking bored :rofl

What would jets do to ah ?
Mostly auger. :bolt:

As for Korea................
WWII was the last true dogfighting era. For that one reason, AH will always be WWII. Guns, and props, and human thought are all WWII. Once we switched to jet engines and missiles we suddenly removed so many aspects of what makes a good pilot. There will never be another aerial combat era quite like WWII.
-
Umm there was dogfighting in Korea , Vietnam and any air combat since. Sure it has changed and dont forget there was sill .50 cal on USA jets and 20mm cannon on migs( and several prop planes in Korea) In Vietnam we didn't have "guns" just rockets in the phantom and every pilot Ive seen said they wanted guns for the dogfights.
Different tech for sure, different tactics absolutely, but for sure there was dogfighting.
-
I for one would probably go exclusively Korean if we had it. I want so badly to be able to fly the A-1 skyraider... it just missied WW2 (first flight march 1945, introduced 1946) but was the backbone of the Korean War. Though if we did get Vietnam, we could have the A-1H which was the heaviest version and would could have heli's!
either way +1
-

We may have 'em, but it'll be like the WWI arena. The jet guys won't like having to deal with other jets all the time
so they'll go back to bashin' baby seal prop jobs with 262s in the Late War Arena. :)

didnt 2 a1-skyraiders get the first kill of korea by tag-teaming a mig15? think i saw that on dogfights.
-
Without a full spectrum of tactical mission possibilities and strategic goals, with a VARIETY of rides to play in, yes.....any Korea Dogfight arena consisting of a Mig15vrsF86 plane set would simply be a novelty. 98% of the player base would play there for two weeks then get bored and go back to the far more dynamic LW arena.
This is the lesson WW1 has taught us: One, maybe two planes with a pure goal of nothing but dog fighting, no matter how well done, will become boring to the majority of players after several weeks or a month.
I hope HTC puts more effort into developing WW1 into something more engaging over the long term. the SE5a and Albatross, SPAD, Nieuport 17 just to name a few, with some large bombers and other strat elements would go a LONG ways towards making WW1 a FAR more viable arena then it is now.
-
jets suck - End of discussion.
If I wanna go fly around in a jet I'll go find some r-tard console game.
:furious
and I SURE as hell wouldn't have downloaded a WWII flight simulator.
"Aces High takes the art and science of vintage WW1 and WW2 air combat and sets it in a high intensity online multiplayer environment. Hundreds of players simultaneously battle it out against each other in massive aerial dogfights and bomber raids."
-
Most Korean and All Vietnam combat started beyond visual range. That means you can't see who or what your shooting at, its a blip on a scope.
Really don't think it will work all that well, or HTC would have already done it.
-
LOMAC (http://lockon.co.uk/) will help you scratch your jet itch.
