I have a question for the uber sticks out there. I like to get into high altitude fights above 15k but I have one problem: I don't know how to shoot down the other guy without getting the upper hand and then driving them down to the ground where I can corner them. When there is more than one nme I can't even do this because it would mean blowing my e. It seems there is just too much room to manover defensively. Any tips? Minus five points to the first guy that says HO them.

dont go alone ever, also if you think their 15k go higher and dive in the dive away with a squadie or friend. 2 times the BBs means a higher chance of hitting the target.

PM sent. :aok
Dominate the fight, maintain the tempo. Make them fight your fight, dont fight theirs.

That right there just eliminated about 98% that fly this game.
you just killed your chances for a good answer

If you engage them and they dive out to get away...you have 2 choices...1. Follow him and kill him when he runs out of room to run. 2. Dont follow him.

An important factor in high altitude fighting is throttle control. I've been in a lot of high altitude fights were the other guy lost the advantage because he couldn't control his speed and at high altitudes, it's much more important to control your speed than it is at lower altitudes where the air is much thicker.
ack-ack

especially in fights 15k and above you can easily loose track of speed and break your wings off or compress I a shallow dive

If there is one person (other than "chalenge") that knows about high alts. That would be AKAK.
Here is a screen shot of AKAK the other night.

You have too keep your speed up, manuvering at high alts around 20k, you should use flaps for even the simplistic maneuvers.

Keep your speed up and use flaps dose not compute in most airplanes.

Yeah but that does't make him an uber stick. Get him co-alt co-E he dies like any other noob.

Hmmm. I sense S.A.P.P. approaching. Clear the runways! :D

aircraft handle very differently up that high. you need to be more gentle on the controls, as you're gonna stall more easily.
when you merge, if the con goes down, do not follow. if he wants to fight, he has to come back up to you. other than that, it's almost like fighting down low, 'cept there's no ground to hit. those fights are a blast.

LOL!!
When it comes to high alt fights I like to keep my speed and avoid turning much.. gets tricky 20K+

109's very different planes and high alt, as with most planes I bet

best advice I read so far was the first four sentences of CAP1's reply:
- aircraft handle very differently up that high.
- you need to be more gentle on the controls, as you're gonna stall more easily.
- when you merge, if the con goes down, do not follow.
- if he wants to fight, he has to come back up to you.
This is information you need to engrave into your noggin , to remember while at higher altitudes.....
figuratively speaking, it takes twice the distance and nearly twice the time to do a 360 degree turn / circle at lets say 22.5 K alt while maintaining a 270 mph IAS speed than it does performing the same 360 degree turn / circle while maintaining a 270 mph IAS speed down lower around lets say 5 K alt........
the air is much thinner at high altitude, the faster ( read as HARDER ) you turn the quicker you bleed your energy and the faster you will find yourself losing altitude trying to keep your aircraft's speed up.........
when flying & Dog Fighting at high Altitude use "Low - G" Maneuvers and conserve every last ounce of "E" ( Energy ) you can squeeze out of your plane.... use more aileron authority verses using the elevators to roll and gently pull to switch directions, instead of rapidly rolling and yanking to point that lift vector when turning or trying to keep your nose on your opponent...... try to coerce your opponent to blow their planes speed/energy on you trying to get them to maneuver for a guns solution........ yet only present them with as small a shot window or slim view of your aircraft.......... always be very conscience of what you are trying to tempt your opponent into doing.. entice them to waste their energy....
High Altitude Dog Fighting is more like a "Chess Match" while down in the weeds Dog Fighting is like your basic recess time for some kids game of Checkers...
hope this is of some help...... Good Luck :airplane:

i forgot about the slow motion part.
just speaking from p-38J experience........i;ve fought 2 other p-38j's up there, and a spit9 up there. all three of those fights were among the hardest 1-1's i;ve fought.
what i noticed, was that where i'd normally try to stay within 500 to 800 yards or the con, i was now only within 800 to just over 2k yard on some maneuvers.
the window(on the 38J)between the stall, and compression seemed to become VERY narrow. it felt like fllapwork, and throttle work were a LOT more important up there than down low.
-
When I fly up high I wait for the other guy to make an aggresive move....same with Jet vs Jet fights. I capitalize on the fact he just dumped his E to try to get to me then reverse them with either a BRD or some sort of vertical move seeing I fly mostly german rides that high.
-
Remember that fast jerky manuevers make you slow, smooth manuevers keep you fast.
