I am fairly new to AH's GV World. I finally had enough perk points to take a Panther out for a spin.
When I found a good spot to shoot from between two small hills, a couple a/c began to circle overhead.
A P-38 dropped a bomb right on me.........poof. There goes my perk points LOL. What tactics
are needed to keep the a/c from hitting you with bombs? Keep driving full speed, hide in trees ( I can't see a thing),
or circle around a Barn? I tried hiding in a barn with no success.
The gv game is allot of fun, but if the a/c can see your icon.....I just don't see how you can hide your tank.
It also seems to me the Panzer IV H has the best anti a/c guns. It would seem the Werbel should be better at that.
Thanks in advance,

If I am actively attacking a field, then I fly a quick sortie before and take out their ordnance. Half the problem solved right there. As far as strafers like the IL-2, Hurri IID and the B-25 I park with tree cover or up against steep hillsides if available. Another thing to do is to fire and move fire an move. Or practice firing and moving then you are real dangerous! Don't ever sit in the same spot too long. Even the best campers are found and eliminated eventually. Also helps to have buddies that enjoy covering you in Wirbelwinds, Ostwinds and M-16's. They are kinda like OFF is to mosquitoes. :aok

WHat he said^^^ If they want to bomb you they will get you eventually.
The Tiger is 10x more survivable against bombs than the panther is.

Best anti-aircraft gun in a tank is the M476. Use the main gun for this. Most experienced guys like Gravy1 and Belial are great at shooting you down with main gun. Actually its not hard at all. I just know that when these guys are near you bring your "A" game.

If you are on the move and have a fighter diving on you for a straffing or egging, take and do a hard left or right turn to throw them off too. Once they are at a certain point, they will no longer be able to correct fast enough and either miss altogether or do minimal damage. :salute

In Real life... tanks could actually use the land for cover from aerial attack.
In AH, tanks have bright red icons visible from anywhere within 1,500 meters. Get within a mile of any plane, you're going to get egged, eventually. I've been whining about this for years now. The gv icon has got to go, at least when it comes to enemy gvs. The did it for gv to gv fighting.... why are air cons able to see them?

In real life, your vision is infinite and detail and differences in shading, shadowing, colors and textures is much better than can ever be delivered with the technology computers and programming available in the game. The answer has been the same for years now, the icons give you back what the technology cannot accurately render.
If you don't want to be bombed in a tank then do not up a tank. Kind of like not taking off in an aircraft if you do not want to be shot out of the sky. Sorta like the GV'ers do now. :bolt:

Thank you guys for your comments.......much appreciated. As far as shooting down enemy aircraft....I have tried the M4/76, but I seem to have more success with
the Panzer IV H. I'll have to try the M4/76 more often.....when that perk point is available to me LOL. I'm really amazed at some of the tankers getting kills with one shot.
It usually takes me two or three shots just to figure out the correct distance......that skill takes time to acquire.

At 1,500ft in a light aircraft you cant see diddly under a forests canopy let alone anything colored green. Maybe you could pick out a flash of chrome off a cars bumper if the lighting were right or a reflection off a cars windsheild, but your not going to see anything green.

1 shot kill pictures~ where to shoot
And when using your main gun to shoot a plane you want to wait for them to come within 1k and fire about 2 ft. above their canopy...it should hit them right on the nose.
Also if a plane is strafing you with low passes...bring some HE rounds and just as they pass over your tank Fire into the ground ( you have to listen for when they are loudest above you)..their wing should be blown off

Not my Tiger, lol!

Waystin is 100% correct. When I was a N00B, I had the unfortunate experience of always sitting in the same damn spot, even after Id had bombs dropped on me if I was gettin kills. But, as you play more, you will learn to fire and manuever. When you do have an AC circling overhead, I have also found that instead of turning into their flight path to avoid the hit, drive away as they will drop short more often then they will drop long (my experience, others may tell you different). Good Luck and welcome to AH!

icons are already hidden if you are actually under cover.
I anti-gv in the IL2 with 37mm. I kill engine to hear them running if I dont spot the motion from way out, or haven't spotted them from tower F5 view. Usually, the 1.5k icon is not even visible until well on the attack pass. To kill, if it's an M4, make sure you're patient enough to climb high enough to be able to get steep enough angle to avoid main gun. You will only get main gunned if you're impatient and/or greedy. Avoid all wirbs/osties. panzers and panthers you can afford to come in less steep if you're desperate, t34's and tiger, the steeper the better, not because they can kill you any easier, but more because they absolutely need to be attacked on the top.
to OP:
these are my general method of gv attack. as others have said, kill ords, you'll avoid most bomb****s.. if you bring a wirble or ostwind along, most IL2's will stay away also, or some fighters kill the il2's and the bomb****s, then other side brings fighters to kill the fighters that killed the bomb****s, then buffs kill VH's, fighters go after buffs, more il2's come in, etc. etc. before ya know it, a good ole AH battle which we all know and love. :aok

If you're on the move avoiding bombs remember to down shift after making those 90 degree turns.

Remember to always turn into the plane bombing you. This steepens their dive and increases the possibility of an auger. As soon as you hear the bomb release, turn quickly to the left or right about 45 degrees. Turning more than that amount slows you down and may not get you out of the splash zone of a large bomb. This will do you no good though for the folks who ride that bomb 400-600 on top of you. It's what I do, then there is no escape! :uhoh

A very valid point sir. We do not however have anything near what I would call a "forrested canopy". The trees are too sparse and too far apart. Your eye does differentiate from natural shapes and the straight lines and angles that define the way our machines are made. Your eyes will also look for differences in whether an object is moving or stationary. Vision and perception are two different things that in combination help with the mental picture we interact with. Take a look at some gun camera footage, at 1500 yards, even in grainy, jumpy, black and whit footage it is pretty clear what the P47 pilot is firing is rockets on. And again, this is what I think the red icon makes up for that our 2 dimensional computer screens cannot render.

1- Tree clusters to hide (and protect) yourself from attacks (I managed to survive a dozen bomb drops in a troop loaded M3 this way once it was pathetic). If you see some blue sky, you are not hidden enough. You risk finding yourself upside down easily though so be careful hitting those bushes!
2- Terrain elevation. Stay on the edge of descending slopes. And move on the down slope if a bomb drop is imminent. Bomb blast don't cause damage if they hit a bit higher than your tank or are obstructed by terrain.
3- Destroy the nearest airfield's ords prior to sortie.
4- Don't fire any of your guns unless absolutely necessary (and I mean even if its for a 100yards out enemy tank... its no good shooting down some tank just to end up getting spotted by a nearby Il2 or A20...)
5- Experiment bombing yourself and find out what the hardest vehicles to hit are doing.
6- Don't up a perked tank, of course.
The trick is not to get spotted... if you are spotted, no matter what you do, you will be destroyed one way or another. I'm a pretty good tank buster from the air and trust me, there ain't nothing vehicles can do without air cover.

ya take out ord and if u can bring a flakker buddie alone

The .50 cal pintle gun on the M4A3 75mm and the M4A3 (W) 76mm are the same.
The ability of a tank to shoot down a tank with its main gun is one of the travesties in AH. That being said, if you low enough to get shot down by said gun you deserve to get shot down by the main gun. :)

Destroy the ord bunkers at the base you plan to attack on the ground. Then use a T-34/85 which in my opinion is a better tank than the Panther for facing enemy planes. Without ords they will be forced to use cannons on you and this is where the T-34 really comes into it's own. Just use the main gun because if they've got their guns lined up on you, you can have yours pointed right at them too.
I have had several 10+ kill sorties in the T-34 with all of them being against aircraft.
