hhmm....how does an EVAP system work again? :devil
Blockage of the line can prevent air from getting into the gas tank as the gasoline is used,
resulting in negative air pressure inside the tank. That can lead to a crack in the gas tank and the possibility of a fire.
hhhmmmmmm..........

I once found a spider nesting in the barrel of my 22 long rifle. My parents propane gas grill lit up because spider nested clogged the fresh air inlets. This happen.

because it's a vent tube. air enters the fuel tank through there. don't tell kgb that though.
-
This is not the first time this has been an issue. mid 90's/early 2000's Nissans were bad about this issue. They ended up making a 'service kit' to install a screen with smaller openings at the vent line.
-
ok thanks

but.....something blocking the vent tube can't possibly cause a problem.........nothing enters the fuel system through it, so how could it?

A blocked vent tube doesn't vent?
wrongway

but venting insinuates that air is getting into the fuel system. there is no air in the fuel system.
-
The fuel tank is vented. If it wasn't then as the fuel was pulled the tank would collapse. Same as filling your lawnmower out of a can. If you do not open the little vent hole then the air is pulled up through the spot causing the interupted sloppy slow flow.
